Keep showing up. Let your feelings ride in the passenger seat if they need to—but don't let them take the wheel.
Daughters of the Dust: The Making of an African American Woman's Film (1992)
Every season has its assignment.
The hardest one for me has always been the in-between—not because nothing is happening, but because it rarely looks the way we expect growth to look.
Lately, my only responsibility has been to run the play. At first, that felt unfamiliar, almost like standing still. Then I realized I wasn't standing still at all. I was moving through a season where preparation had already done the heavy lifting.
Sometimes peace feels unproductive when you've grown accustomed to surviving. But there are seasons where your greatest act of faith is simply staying the course.
Isaiah 43:18-19
“Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.”
Stop ruminating/dwelling in the old, for God is doing the a new thing. You can’t focus on the old because then God is unable to do a new thing in your life.

it’s been weird af trying to step back into socials again.
Watching the Lauryn Hill tribute didn't just remind me how great she is. It reminded me the importance of being BLACK & why we create.
"Legacy starts the day you stop asking permission to be yourself."
Watching the love she received, hearing the message to Black creatives, & sitting w/ the weight of that Ex-Factor performance made me realize how easy it is to let your current circumstances convince you to shrink your gift. To question your purpose. To wonder if what you're making/doing even matters. The truth is, most of us are trying to be understood by the people closest to us, forgetting there's an entire world outside of our little bubble that we created.
Maybe your work isn't meant for everyone around you.
Maybe it's meant for someone you'll never meet in this lifetime
As Black creatives, our gifts aren't accidents. They're responsibilities. A firm reminder that our stories deserve to be told in our own voices, w/o watering ourselves down to make anyone else feel comfortable. Hearing that speech reminded me that I'm more than enough. That My job isn't to predict who will understand the work. My job is simply to honor the gift God gave me & keep creating.
The rest will happen when & as it's supposed to.
i let people create whatever narrative about me that fits them because i have no urge on changing anyone's mind who thought the worst about me in the first place
There's a quiet resilience in a man who has every reason to give up but chooses not to. He can survive on little sleep, carry burdens no one sees, wrestle with loneliness, face an empty bank account, and still wake up believing tomorrow can be different. Sometimes faith is the only thing he has left
—but it's enough to keep him moving.
