This is my attempt at drawing that one iconic Starfire panel in (sorta) my style, it's not completely finished tho

I kept it in more of a sketchy style cause I honestly couldn't be bothered to clean it up-

For context, Post-Blockbuster and all that it entailed, Dick had no job, no home, and no aspirations. He was picked up and pseudo-adopted by a family of Italian mobsters, whereupon he assumed the alias “Crutches” (since he’d needed to rely on crutches after being shot in the knee during War Games) and became an enforcer. As in, threatening rival mob members, standing around at negotiations, calling people sir and being offered for his acclaimed services. It wasn’t like he turned evil; Dick hated it and himself more than anything. But he was too broken and despondent to do anything until external circumstances demanded such.

The application: Suppose Jason wants to infiltrate an affiliate of Black Mask. Dick offers to help. His own civilian identity conveniently has a connection to both the underground writ large and to Black Mask specifically, as he’d met with Black Mask during his mob enforcer tenure. Cue the reintroduction of Crutches. From here, you could have a more lighthearted romp, where Jason cannot understand why people are so scared of him, meanwhile Dick is floundering to channel his early 20s dead-eyed edginess. Or, you could do a more serious exploration. Jason learns bits and pieces during their investigation, culminating in the discovery that Crutches was more than a simple cover story and the grim details that led to Dick’s descent into the mob. Showcase some parallels in their darker histories, have a bit of comforting bonding, badda bing badda boom, an actually relevant, emotionally intimate plot between the two of them that doesn’t involve the Joker or “is Jason’s standing in the family being regressed again this week”.
