Whenever I see a really off-the-wall take about the beatles I remember this adorable post from an older fan about how they used to play "Beatles" at recess but they were too young to really know who the beatles were so they just played house with British accents and I assume that's what a lot of people on this website are doing as well
too young to really know who the beatles were
NO ONE is too young to know who the beatles were. its important to tell your children about the beatles as soon as they can understand language. My father told me when i turned two that the beatles were four men who sang and played music. over the years he added more details like girls loved the beatles and how some of them died. there is no excuse.

its kind of sad that bugs are so weak. it dishonors their noble biology. i guess this is is why crustaceans are so admirable. imagine for a moment, an unsquishable bug. such is the way of the crab
yqy and sj make up and the entirety of cang qiong is taken by surprise when it turns out sj is the needy clingy one in the relationship
For those who don't know: Ikumi Nakamura is the woman who was senior artist on Bayonetta, and designed the titular character along with Hideki Kamiya. Their greatest moment of bonding was over their insistence that Bayonetta keep her glasses on at all times. Nakamura cannot go to horny jail. She is the warden.
Happy pride month to her and her exclusively
she made a comic about the experience on twitter

An Update from back in October I'm surprised wasn't added to this post. lol
every moment of my life is a humiliation ritual
I hate explaining dog whistles to white people because they look at you like you're a goddamn conspiracy theorist. Like Lord forbid bigotry is more subtle than someone shouting "I HATE (INSERT SLUR)" to an oppressed person's face and violently beating the shit out of them.

A large part of the reason families were bigger in the past was because marital rape was not considered rape and birth control/abortion methods were ineffective, dangerous and/or illegal. We can dance around this and act like our great great great grandmothers just loveddddd being mamas so much that they decided out of their own free will to have 11 children. We can pretend that they DECIDED to have big families because it was a financially advantageous decision so they could have more labor around the farm. But a lot of children in the past were fundamentally unwanted and not conceived out of love, children were not a choice women got to make. We need to admit that and stop pretending historical women were inherently more maternal because they were impregnated at the age of 15 and kept having babies until they were 40. That did not make them loving mothers, it did not make them βthe divine feminineβ and it sure did not make them happy.
the idea that the british empire accepted their decline with grace and peacefully and willingly withdrew from all their colonial territories and took their loss quietly is commonly expressed as fact but it's very much untrue, it's a successful propaganda campaign for them to claim that this is what happened but they were busy committing war crimes throughout their colonial territories long after supposed "independence" & they continued/continue to maintain economic control over these regions and actively killed local movements that wanted economic sovereignty, land reform, nationalization of natural resources much like the united states did/does within their sphere of influence. i say this not to minimize the atrocities the us has committed but to make a point that the uk is also guilty of these crimes up to the present as much as they'd like to pretend this was an era that ended a century ago. british colonial violence isn't something that ended after ww2 it continued throughout the 20th century and still to this day if you look at the actions undertaken by the british military and their mercenaries throughout the former empire
for the past handful of years ive seen people say stuff like "well the british empire accepted their decline with grace and pulled out when they saw the ship sinking so why can't the us do that" and it's important that you understand that the british empire didn't actually do that and neither will their son lol

some people act like its so embarassing to be into fandom as a woman in your 40s and 50s but suddenly embrace it when a 60 year old lady is really into spirk or whatever... its weird. realistically all the people who wrote those pillars-of-the-community masterworks in the 2000s are floating around someone in that age bracket now...... same goes for all of those who kept this or that show on air in the 90s, running forums like the navy... not to mention all the women who discovered this stuff late and are experiencing a new lease of life. how can u not find that kind of beautiful? i support u, middle-aged women of tumblr and ao3....
My theory is that this happens because people (specially younger folk, which in my experience are the folk who think like this the most), project like crazy, so women in their 40~50s gives this vague feeling of 'what if my mom was on tumblr' vs 'what if my grannie'.
It's a very mainstream thought nowadays: grandmas doing wacky stuff mean's she's a cool old lady living her life to the fullest, mom's doing wacky stuff is 'ew, stop embarrassing me'.
They are all living their life to the fullest, tho.
People who cannot deal with that will have a sad road ahead because we are all heading to our 40s and 50s and 60s (hopefully), so have fun, and stay wacky!
conversation i just had

Announcing Fanfiction.lol !
hey all! i've built a new ao3 fork called fanfiction.lol π€π½ key differences:
π« no invite queue: sign up and start posting immediately. no waiting, no velvet rope.
π³οΈβπ expanded content warnings: added ableism, homophobia/transphobia, racism, rpf and more. plus relationship tags for aro/ace spectrum, qpr, non-binary/genderqueer focus, poly/ensemble, and more.
π·οΈ all tags are canonical: everything you tag goes into the searchable record. no volunteer wrangling bottleneck.
π fandom-agnostic moderation: i care about the writing, not fandom politics or discourse. write whatever you want, tag it honestly.
it's a small personal project but fan communities deserve independent infrastructure.
if you enjoy fandom, i'd love for you to sign up and poke around. tell me what breaks. the source code is at source.tube/brennan/fanfiction.lol.
find me at brennan.day/accounts or email [email protected].
write whatever the hell you want! π
More Information
Hi, I wanted to add some more info about fanfic.lol based on some replies. I was trying to keep the original post short and have done write-ups elsewhere but I'll reiterate here.
The admin/webmaster: I'm Brennan! I'm a Queer Red River MΓ©tis writer and webdev and huge advocate for the IndieWeb. You can get to know to me on my site, brennan.day
I made this for fun, and it's running using a homelab server in my basement. I don't make money or anything else. I'm just doing it for the love of ball.
fanfic.lol is meant to be a small, independent alternative for fanfic and fandom that prioritizes joy and fun. No aims at trying to replace AO3!
I am anti-genAI and so is the site. You can read more about my stance on AI here.
Archive warnings, like everything else, are under construction! I do have to adhere to the laws of my country (Canada). Please be patient.
I am pushing straight to production, which is to say the entire site could explode at anytime, so please do not use it as the only place you put things! :)
I forsee only a handful of people using this site, it def isn't for everyone. If you don't like it that's okay! Whether you want to give me input or just ignore it entirely.
I did a longer write-up here. Thank you everyone for the kind, warm reception of my silly little project. <3
I love the longer write-up. It gives me a much better sense of where you're coming from and why people should trust youβor which users would be a good fit.
I was there for the start of AO3, and we really did think we were going to usher in the next age of archives a la eFiction. It took too long for AO3's code to be in that kind of shape and the internet changed radically around us. We did not mean to create a behemoth. We just wanted venture capital bros to stop disrespecting us.
As a side note, all the comments you're getting like "There already is a fanfiction website. Wtf" are exactly what people said about AO3/OTW in 2007. There was a ton of bitching about us stealing FFN's idea. (Never mind that there were older archives.) There were frequent complaints about how there was already "an archive" and we didn't need another. Most of that discussion got deleted when FFN decided to nuke all of its inactive social spaces one Thanksgiving weekend while nobody was around to object or save their data. But I was there and I remember it and it sounded exactly like these comments now.
The oldschool core of AO3 was into the age of archives. We liked there being lots of different little spaces run by different fans. It's nice to see that energy floating around in 2026. Go indieweb!
I wish you a hundred invested users who want to form a community and nobody else.
