disclaimer: i do not get paid consistently enough to comfortably donate to people a good 95% of the time, and on the off chance i'm able, it will only be in small amounts. i probably won't be able to financially assist any fundraisers sent to me, sorry. i WILL, however, happily share your campaign or even make my own post for you if you have proof of vetting and are willing to take me up on it!!!
hi, i'm hibiscus
or hibi...or pixxie...or pix...
i collect a lot of posts i think are neat. if i follow you, it's probably because i think the posts you have on your blog are neat. there's no deeper "theme" on here, this is just my remarkably well-kept digital houseplant.
"what tags do you use?"
uuuhhhh i'm really bad at using tags for organization/filtering purposes, but i do tag the following:
#hibiscus's buds - original posts from me
#for future reference - posts i want to find again because there's practical stuff in them
#my fun touys - posts that amuse me
#my thought cabinet - posts that contain a Thought i would like to hold onto
#my collection of shinies - things that are just plain cool/beautiful
#posts to remember - old tag for posts i want to find again because there's something nonpractical but fascinating about them that i want to revisit, i will eventually clean this up and split it into a few smaller tags for more specific purposes
#true! - posts that i think are just so true on some level. be it literal agreement or just....an acknowledged truth it finds in my soul....yea...
#lost cat in the alps - any post where the punchline is some variation on a young witch finding her neighbor's lost cat in the alps. because i think it's funny.
#slay the princess spoilers - spoilers for the game slay the princess (which you should play)
#stp spoilers - see above
#arcane spoilers - spoilers for the show arcane
#severance spoilers - spoilers for the show severance
#unreality
#reblog bait (and any variations)
...and almost every variation of slay the princess related tags under the sun! if you're a mutual who needs something tagged for filtering purposes, please lmk!

i wonder if it’s time for a cultural reappraisal of rob liefeld’s art. maybe we were all just too quick to judge a guy for daring to have a unique stylized take that focused on exaggeration and action. *actually looks at some of his art again* jesus CHRIST never mind
But let’s play out the thought experiment! What CAN we learn from Rob Liefeld’s art?
You can do whatever you want forever
At the end of the day, art is about vibes
If you lean into Your Own Particular Brand of Bullshit with enough dedication, you CAN wring a career out of it
Don’t ever fucking apologize for your art. Look at me. Look in my eyeballs. Don’t fucking apologize for your art ever. There are people like Rob Liefeld who are not apologizing for putting swords on titties. Why would YOU have to apologize for anything?
Highlights and shadows are THE secret key to making your art look even a little bit interesting and dimensional and juicy to the eyeball. This works even if your shapes are dogshit.
Highlights and shadows don’t have to go in logical places :)))) You can literally just throw them wherever. Follow ur heart.
You don’t, apparently, have to bother learning anything about anatomy if you don’t feel like it
Impostor syndrome is just trying to make you apologize for your art. Never apologize for your art. Stab impostor syndrome with your titty swords.
It’s normal and fine to be horny when you draw.
Forget about “Perfect is the enemy of good.” Perfect is the enemy of DONE.
Literally do whatever you want forever.
Valuable and important lessons, we must admit! Thanks, Rob Liefeld!

🇺🇸nationwide recall of outshine plant-based frozen fruit bars due to contamination with glass🇺🇸
this frozen dessert is also known as an ice pop, popsicle, paleta, lollipop, lolly, ice lolly, icy pole, ice block, ice drop, ice gola, ice candy, ai tim tang, ice cream tang, and kisko. whatever you call these flavored frozen something-or-others on a stick, these recalled ones have a secret ingredient: glass
and that glass has best before dates all the way into november 2027.
for whatever reason, the FDA has made it unnecessarily difficult to tell if you have any of these recalled outshine fruit bars. more on that towards the bottom. I (rune) went ahead and made the batch information easier to read, because it feels extra bad imagining people panicking through the recall announcement trying to figure out if they or their children possibly ate glass.
if you have an affected box, do NOT eat it. throw it out or return it to the store for a refund. make sure everyone else you know does the same, because eating glass can cause unwanted side effects. such as death

August 18, 2026 - Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream, Inc. is voluntarily recalling a limited number of select flavors of Outshine Fruit Bars due to possible foreign material contamination with glass. Products affected include Outshine Strawberry, Watermelon, Grape, Tangerine and Black Cherry 6-Count 2.5 ounce Fruit Bars and the Outshine 24-Count 2.5 ounce Variety Pack Fruit Bars.
These lots were distributed to retailers nationwide.
"limited number" and "select flavors" are doing a lot of heavy lifting for a nationwide recall where the contaminated fruit bars were distributed to too many retailers to list.
No other Outshine products or varieties are impacted. ONLY the five flavors of 6 Count (2.5-oz bars) and Outshine Variety 24-Count (2.5-oz bars) Fruit Bars. Batch codes can be identified on the product packaging.
really neat thing to emphasize after dreyer's original recall failed to list every product affected by the glass contamination. this post is actually about the expanded recall. surprise!
the original version of this line was, "No other Outshine products or varieties are impacted. ONLY the five flavors of 6ct 2.5-ounce paddle bars."
no need to worry about our other products being affected by glass contamination, unless you trusted us the last time we said this...a whole three days ago! move on
Dreyer’s is taking this action out of an abundance of caution following consumer reports of glass found in the product. No illnesses or injuries have been reported to date. Anyone concerned about an injury should contact a healthcare provider immediately. Consumers who have purchased the affected product should dispose of it or return it to their place of purchase for a full refund.
as is the case with countless food recalls, dreyer's only discovered their desserts were contaminated with glass and subsequently issued this recall after multiple heroes reported issues with their food. no glass-related injuries have been reported yet, but...be real, chances are good someone already ate some amount of glass. if that sounds like you, dreyer's says to pursue medical attention (or at least professional medical advice) immediately.
even if the glass only slices your digestive tract a teeny tiny bit, any possible germs on said glass (and anything else you eat afterwards) get expedite delivered directly into those cuts and might lead to a serious infection. consumed glass could also become embedded somewhere on the way in, on the way down, and on the way out of your body. a scenario like that could require surgery to remove the glass.
if you do accidentally eat glass, PLEASE report it to both the FDA and to dreyer's to get your injuries officially recorded. the more heroes who report injuries and illnesses from their food, the more these issues get taken seriously, the more people find out about them, the more other people can be protected, and the more easily other victims can receive medical care and possibly compensation. in a worst case scenario, eating glass or food contaminated with mystery germs can result in lifelong disability or death. please help save lives.
The safety, quality, and integrity of our products remain our highest priority. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this action may cause our consumers and retail customers.
We remain committed to maintaining the highest standards of food safety and quality and to earning the trust of our consumers and customers every day.
...which is why the dreyer's primary official website, icecream.com, definitely contains a prominent warning about outshine fruit bars containing glass? or at the very least a search result for "recall"? surely someone who claims safety as a "highest priority" would never half-ass communication about actual glass, right? (whoops!)
none of this PR bullshit matters. dreyer's should have at least had a prominent banner and recall page template ready, filled out, and published by now. plenty of other food manufacturers manage that part just fine. despite dreyer's PR pinky promises, they already extensively fumbled this recall. my (rune!) sympathies to anyone else devastated by dreyer's performance. and also the glass
Consumers with questions may contact Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream, Inc. Customer Service at 800-392-4885, Monday thru Friday 8am to 5pm EST.
Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream, Inc Media Contacts: [email protected]
got questions? want to know when dreyer's plans to add prominent banners and pages to their websites about their glass recall? reach out!
alright, now here is where things get confusing. on the FDA's table listing the specific recalled products: product packaging (name and quantity) and UPC (identifying product number) both say "see image below". the batch code/best before date column is still correctly filled in, albeit attached to incomplete information.
the FDA apparently expects everyone to look at the blurry-as-shit images, transcribe flavors and UPCs in order, and then link them to the incomplete table. possibly while racing against the melting of their creamless ice. keep in mind, recall announcements do frequently contain errors, including having their associated photos incorrectly ordered or labeled. but the tables are usually at least completed.
so, where exactly is the list of recalled flavors and UPCs in plain text to know for sure? especially if the images are too blurry to read?
...hidden within the fucking alt text!!!!!!
and so it was up to me (rune!!) to utilize my expert hacker accessibility alt text skills and format this information for the tragically-tableless tumblr. why these steps were skipped over on the FDA website with full table capabilities in favor of making people hunt for it, I (rune!!!) have no fucking clue. rough times at the US FDA
reminder that tumblr natively supports alt text on both desktop and mobile, and more people should be using it. after attaching a photo, click on the meatball menu/3 dots to add a brief description.
rune (me) recall pro tip: to check your bars, take pictures of the box and then promptly put it back in the freezer. do not keep the box out while looking through the numbers. otherwise, much like the eventual fate of all things on our fragile earth, your treats might disappear into memory

considering this recall has already expanded once despite dreyer's super solid Trust Me Bro and they failed to catch these issues through their own quality control to begin with...nonzero chance there are other contaminated dreyer's products, at least in the outshine line.

do you have another name for this frozen treat beyond those listed at the top? does your area have a lesser-known name for it? do you have your own fun nickname? tell me (rune!!!!) in the notes!
for a long time now, one of my go-to phrases is "shake it like a can of beans." im not really sure where this came from, but i've been saying it for three years or so. it never really occurred to me that this was unusual until yesterday when i was bouncing a baby in a rocker a little too violently (he was having a great time, it just wasnt exactly sending him to sleep) and i went "sorry, im shaking him like a can of beans over here" and both my coworkers reacted like i had said something insane
one of the babies was getting picked up and started screaming as soon as her dad pulled her from her crib (where she'd been sleeping) and i instinctively said "that's what we in the industry call: baby moding" and he started laughing so hard he almost dropped her
a common saying in the daycare is "no crying in the baby room!" typically as a joke/ironic response to young children crying (something they are known to do.) lately i've been taking this and running, saying things like "no vaping in the baby room!" (to babies coughing) or "no show tunes in the baby room!" (to babies screaming) and lately i said- in front of a parent - "no suicide pacts in the baby room!" (to a baby dragging another baby to the floor while trying to bite her)
i keep saying "awww da googoo boogoo :-(" i don't know what this means
i think we've done a great job expanding the view of what a child's favorite animal can be. kids these days can say they love axolotls or pangolins or coelecanths and their decision is respected. maybe their parents can even find them a stuffed animal of it if they know where to look. and i think that's beautiful
which movies have you watched the most amount of times? they dont have to be your actual favorite movies, just the ones youve rewatched most. for example: mine are the final destination movies and scream

"I wrote a eulogy for my best friend last week. Then I read it to him. At the pub. On a Tuesday."
He was alive, holding a pint, looking at me like I'd lost my mind. Maybe I have.
I'm Mick. I'm 70. The man across the table was Barry. Seventy-two. Best mate for 46 years. Met on a building site in 1979. He dropped a plank on my foot. I called him something unrepeatable. He bought me a pint after the shift. Haven't gone a week without talking since.
Three months ago we went to a funeral. Bloke we'd worked with. Cancer. The eulogies were beautiful - people saying what he meant to them, things they'd clearly never said to his face. And all I could think was, he can't hear any of this.
Every beautiful sentence. Every "he changed my life." Said to a room of crying people and a box of wood.
I turned to Barry. Whispered, "What a waste."
Drove home. Couldn't sleep. Because I realised, if Barry died tomorrow, I'd stand up and say extraordinary things about this man. Things I've never said in 46 years. And he'd be in the box, missing all of it.
So I wrote them down. Took a week. Harder than expected - not finding the words, but admitting I had them.
Rang him. "Tuesday. The Crown. Need to read you something."
"Have you joined a book club?"
"Just come."
Same corner table. Pint of bitter. Crisps. I pulled out the paper. He saw my hands shake.
"Mick. What's this?"
"Your eulogy. I'm reading it now because I'm not wasting it on a day you can't hear it."
"Have you gone mad?"
"Probably. Shut up and listen."
I read it. In a pub. To a man very much alive and very much uncomfortable.
I told him about the plank and how it was the best injury of my life. About the night he drove forty minutes in rain to help change a tyre. About how he rang every day for three months after my divorce and never once asked "Are you alright?" - just talked about football and weather, because he knew I didn't need a question. I needed a voice.
I told him he was the funniest man I'd ever known and his jokes were terrible and both things were true. That he'd been a better father than he thinks. That his wife's a saint and he knows it. That I'd have been a worse man without him.
He didn't look at me. Stared at his pint. Jaw tight. Doing that thing men do when the feelings arrive and they'd rather swallow glass than show it.
When I finished, long silence. Then he picked up his pint, took a sip, and said,
"You're paying for the next round. And the one after."
That was his answer. Perfect. Because Barry doesn't say "I love you too." He says "you're buying."
But in the car park, he hugged me. Not the quick back-pat. A real one. Thirty seconds. Neither let go first.
And he said quietly into my shoulder, "Don't read that again at the real one. I want new material."
Who would you write a eulogy for - while they're still here?
Don't wait. The flowers can't hear. The box doesn't laugh. Say it now. At the pub. Over a bad cup of tea. You'll feel ridiculous.
They'll look uncomfortable. It'll be the most important thing you've ever done.
Read them the speech while they can still hug you in the car park.”
