No, actually, I don't look at the hundreds of human samples I get in my lab every work day (yes, I'm a scientist of color too! Black, even!) and go "you know what would be interesting? Taking this and reproducing it into a bread." Taking a gut microbiome from a corpse is one thing. Deciding to eat from it is a completely different thing. I'm not eating anything I get out of a corpse. That is not something I decide I want to do. You gotta speak for yourself before bringing up my people and the stereotypes forced on us to excise eating Corpse Bread 😬

Another scientist here. Was talking about this with some other scientists. Listen if you are an actual scientist who knows anything about science and microbiology you do not eat that fucking yeast. And if you do you're most definitely a white person because that's so twisted and nasty. And since white people historically are known to have eaten mummies, as a good scientist, I will let the evidence speak for itself.

Some classmates and I were studying together and the topic of marriage came up for some reason. One of them said I'm not getting married, I used to be sad about it but now I love my spinster life (straight herosexual from what she's said but is older and feels content). I was like same girl, I am never getting married. Another classmate (who is gay mind you) then said to me well if you ever find someone you want to spend your life with...

Why the hell am I the one subject to this rhetoric?? Is it because you perceive me as young with my "whole life ahead of me?". (Her followup question was how old I was and, yes, I'm older than her).

I am frusterated with myself because I didn't speak up in response to that. I didn't say I was aroace or even that I was sure of myself and my choice. My words just died in my throat. I know working on yourself can be a slow process but I wish I could just flip a switch in my brain and always say what want to. I know I'm afraid of a negative response because while defending myself always gets me fired up it is simultaneously always heartbreaking.

I’m having feelings about Katara v Pakku again, and the fact that at this point in the series, Katara has never been in a fight that wasn’t to the death. Every fight she’s ever been in has had world-ending stakes. She’s not shooting to kill Pakku because she’s weaker and less trained than him - though she is - she’s shooting to kill because she doesn’t know any other way to fight. Friendly sparring, or fighting as a spectator sport, has not been a part of this girl’s life. Pakku’s fighting Katara to put troublesome teenagers in their place; Katara’s fighting Pakku because they’ll all die if Pakku doesn’t pull his head out of his ass and train the Avatar.

Pakku is genuinely surprised to see his own reflection in that disc of ice Katara shoots right past his face. If he hadn’t dodged, it would have sliced his head right open. He starts putting actual effort in after that.

I played a small role in helping to produce the first estimate of carbon emissions from deportation flights in the Trump 2.0 era. Emissions from these flights rose 88% when Trump took office, and these deportations alone now produce as much pollution as a small island nation. From The Guardian this morning:
