what gets me is that byler was not a big ship before s4. like even after the whole rain fight in s3, it was not popular, most people weren't even picking up on will being gay. they could have just left it at that and given will a love interest starting in s4 and no one wouldve batted an eye.

even the general audiences response to robin coming out was widely negative, with a small minority of people who actually liked it. i remember people being annoyed with her for not liking steve. the general perception of her only changed during s4.

what i mean is, pre s4, there was not really any huge queer fanbase to bait.

ST was one of the most watched shows in the world, there was no reason to try to bait a whole new audience. queer people were already watching it with no expectations for representation.

they on purpose began a whole queer storyline just to not finish it. they made mike and els relationship completely miserable for no reason just to not put in any effort into resolving it.

they made robin a lesbian, had her whole relationship develop and then (implicitly) break up off screen, and only used that plot to prop up will's story, which was also written horribly,

they made will the most romantically driven character in the show and then did not give him a relationship, and basically said his best option is to just get over it and that acceptance is the best he can hope for, even though every other straight main character gets to have a reciprocated romance plot.

and for what? so they could pat themselves on the back for writing a half assed story that queer people were not even asking for? and then act annoyed and call us "noise" when we rightfully point out that what they did was extremely dismissive and condescending?? okay.
