Watching a certain flavor of leftist spoil and ratfuck the upcoming elections is even more dispiriting to watch as a fed rn. We're barely holding on. Even at my evil govt job that they would crucify me for working at, our career employees and leaders are holding the line, slow-rolling, maliciously complying, and ignoring (when we can get away with it) whatever illegal batshit insane horrific thing the ghouls whove been handed the reins of our agencies can come up with. And everyone - EVERYONE - is taking hits and taking hits and holding out if we can for this coming election. Everyone is talking about November and what the posture will be like at christmas. Its the only silver lining. The stakes have only gotten higher since 2024. We're fatigued, and tired. And a bunch of bored ingrates with too much time on their hands and a fundamental misunderstanding of the extent of their own privilege are trying their damnedest to pry our fingers off the ledge

You're much better off attacking Saudi Arabia for whitewashing its human rights abuses, the fact that only about 57% of the people living there have citizenship, and that they infamously dismembered a journalist than conflating them with Al Qaeda.

The answer to why a lot of leftists are Like That, especially about the Omnicause, is because they want to be heroes of the oppressed but are uncomfortable with actually giving up privilege or decentering themselves in their worldview. “Why don’t leftists work in their home countries for Native Rights rather than obsess over I/P” because they benefit from those systems. They want to be brave heroes of Justice who face no adversity. They do genuinely see themselves as entitled to that role.

I think the FDR romanticizing really does give the game away re: leftism being a Fuck You, I Need To Get Mine movement. Because that man was in many ways an atrocious person, but he was good for white people. And so much of the yearning is simply “I wish white privilege could still take me this far”. The ball rolling has slowed down and that’s what they’re mad about

there is no justification for bigotry. whether it’s a single person or a whole group. racism, antisemitism, homophobia, transphobia, etc., are not justifiable. if that fact upsets you, you need to ask yourself why.

"Whether someone understands it or not, these are the consequences of the political views they're espousing" is a pretty important analysis tool for online movements because quite honestly, over half of everyone engaging in politics online have no foundations for the stuff they're saying and are just saying whatever makes them feel like a member of an in-group.

If your in-group is "the left" you're very much not immune to this. In fact, trying to do left-wing politics without even trying to build a foundational political understanding is a great way to end up as a neo-nazi with a tumblr accent rather than an effective left-wing advocate.

Fyi being part of a minority doesnt make you or me inherently more progressive just by virtue of being that minority alone. We still need to actually be progressive to be progressive
