A bit more About Me under the cut
I am in my early 30s, mom to a stupidly adorable dog (see tag "sputnikposting"), and work some kind of job that I complain about from time to time. I'm currently preparing to begin working towards a master's degree, which is, you know, terrifying, but no pressure.
My primary fandom is Hetalia, which I have been in for nearly fifteen years, because something something special interest hyperfixation something something. I'm also on the very edges of TURN: Washington's Spies fandom, though I've mostly fallen out of it. I also reblog from a variety of other fandoms, but as far as fanworks and meta go, it's pretty much all Hetalia from me.

Remember when joining fandom as a younger person meant lurking for a bit and figuring out the vibe and etiquette instead of coming in on day one and calling people weirdos for liking weirdo shit in the weirdo factory.
For all this whining about the Democratic party and the establishment, you know who's going to be cleaning up Graham Platner's mess?
The democratic party. And the establishment. The fucking adults in the room.
The Maine Democratic Party is going to need to replace their nominee with the eyes of the whole fucking country on them and try to do it with a process that pisses off the least amount of people. It's impossible to piss of nobody in this scenario. They have only bad choices here.
The DNC and the DSCC are then going to have to scramble to funnel money into a totally new candidate.
Democratic party operatives are going to have to rework all their plans around a new nominee and trying to take this Senate seat.
It'll be the fucking party, the establishment, the adults in the room, the institutions cleaning up the mess and hopefully capturing the Senate. The people who have been around for decades, who work for the party, who donate to it, who know its structure, who will knock on doors and raise money and make ads.
At the end of the election the DSA, the podcasters, the "anti establishment" will have done nothing to actually fix this and win the seat other than cause problems in the first place
This is WHY we have parties and institutions and fuck anyone who says those are categorically bad things

What could possibly get Edmund Hewlett to turn to the other side? The short answer: Anna strong.
The long answer:
This was a difficult prompt since I feel like most of the characters in this show have a strong enough backbone (unlike someone like Arnold lmao) or are just too stubborn, and therefore wouldn’t betray their given side, however… I could see Hewlett eventually realizing that for all their flaws, the rebels deserve their independence, but I can only really imagine him having a change of heart like this if Anna was a key part of it.
God forbid, if she was discovered as a spy and the British killed or imprisoned her, I can imagine how that would DESTROY him… Edmund Hewlett already went through enough angst and heartbreak in canon though, so I don’t wanna dwell on that, he deserves better, damnit 😭
As Abe said, maybe nothing Anna could do would turn his coat from red to blue, but I could still see him using his postion of power to subtly help the patriots instead of blindly supporting the king, if the right circumstances happened in season three probably— imagine if after their failed wedding, instead of their “breakup”, for lack of a better word, Anna tried to explain her patriot stance to Hewlett and he slowly began to understand? I don’t think it would be as simple as them having a single heart to heart conversation, and it would also take a long time for him to forgive her for leaving him at the altar (if that’s still a plot point in this hypothetical AU, lol)… but god, a slow-burn where that happens would hit!
