Life Takes Guts.

Hey guys, so this is the first time I’ve posted anything online about my ibd cause i just like to keep it my myself mostly….well here goes. so i was diagnosed at 9 (now I’m 14) and i started the scd (specific carbohydrate diet) to treat it. since then I’ve never taken any meds and this diet has worked like magic for me but its really hard to live with…luckily I’m doing really well now so i can cheat on it an be fine lol…so, we all know crohns sucks and all! but 2 years after being diagnosed i went to Camp Oasis which changed my life forever…it showed me that i am not alone in this. literally i can’t even describe how magical it is to be there where everyone understands. camp had led me to friends who’ve become family and the only place in the world where i don’t worry what anyone else thinks. it is the single best thing that has ever happened to me. i could literally write like a 5 page story on what its done for me haha… well good luck to everyone!!<3!!! seriously, find a camp oasis!! if you are too old to be a camper, be a councilor. i can’t imagine my life without it now. 

My name is Filipa and I was diagnosed with Crohn Disease in may 2015. I had all the simptoms and, as a medical student, I should be aware of what was going on with me but I only decide to go after somo medical help several months after. I had lost some weight, I was feel too weak and tired, I used to feel terrible after any meal… I did everything my gastro told me to do and in august 2015 I began Humira and I’m so much better ever since. I had to reforce my iron levels since I was anemic and had to readjust my food but nowadays I’m eating regularly, without any restrictions (I still avoid beans and other vegetables that are considered as dangerous) Sometimes I have some pain, vomits, obstipation, I have to take some pills or even go to hospital but I’m feeling much better and I hope that everyone with this Disease could feel the same.

Saw my GI doctor today. Managed to gain 3 lbs since my last visit and, so far, am doing okay. I need to get some routine bloodwork and a bone density (dexa) scan since I have osteopenia too. The only other plans so far are to get my yearly colonoscopy this coming August. Thankfully I have a while before that happens :)

Tomorrow marks exactly one week that I've been very sick with a bad upper respiratory infection. I've been getting sick very often since starting Entyvio to treat my Crohn's. It reminds me of the way that Remicade lowered my immune system, except worse.

I haven't been on here in forever, but I've decided to change this blog to being about my personal health journey with IBD instead of just posting about IBD in general. Nothing too exciting, but maybe it will get me updating more. ;)
