Citations could be so awesome without copyright. Imagine just being able to click on a footnote and it takes you to the exact section of another book being quoted. Imagine how much that would do for stemming misinformation.
if y’all hated the last tapestry I made I got something even better. happy pride!
also didn’t block this one so don’t even ask

[litany against reactionary thinking] throughout all of human history the majority of art has been kind of trash that reflects a lot of common impulses and thought patterns that the general populace have and is not an indicator of some great advent of moral or intellectual failure unique to our current time.
like every day i have to go into work and see fifty different books with descriptions like "55 year old cowboy dad sexually takes advantage of a 19-year old recent college grad who works for him and is friends with his daughter" branded as a cute and quirky romance novel and it makes me throw up a little every time. but it isnt creating these desires so much as reflecting them. that being said you are still freely allowed to be a hater about both the book and absolutely the societal forces behind them. and i will!
i'm sexually interested in whatever's wrong with you

Does no one realize how racist this assumption can be? Most LLMs are trained heavily on Commonwealth and other standardized English corpora, yet now when people from Commonwealth countries naturally write in polished English, others immediately say it “sounds AI-generated.”
I fear this is the beginning of a really awful trend that will make it even harder for non-white writers to get published.
Got curious, so I went and read it myself. The AI accusation is completely absurd to me. The story is small scale, personal, laden with metaphor, and clearly draws heavily from the writer's cultural history. It's not conventionally told, but the ideas set up in the beginning are woven throughout the narrative nicely - nothing is extraneous, no threads are dropped, and it ends on a thoughtful and somewhat poetic note that explores its core themes. Unless I'm sorely mistaken, this is not kind of writing AI generally produces (at least not without significant human intervention - at which point who cares?)
The idea that it's AI generated because of a couple difficult-to-parse similes (in a piece that employs flowery simile multiple times per paragraph) is so insidious. Oh I'm sorry, this Trinidadian writer's piece exploring the cultural intersections of the Carribean and Indian diasporas on the island wasn't instantly understandable to me, an ignorant anglophone reader - so therefore he must be a fraud? Ridiculous, and in my opinion clearly racist.

—Did you know that Juneteenth is also celebrated in a part of Mexico? Nacimiento Mexico was once home to thousands who escaped slavery in the US. As many as 10,000 slaves followed a clandestine Southern Underground Railroad to Mexico. —To date, many Black Mexicans from the Texas area retrace a portion of the same route their African American ancestors followed in 1850 when they escaped slavery. —Descendants of slaves who escaped across the southern border observe Texas’s emancipation holiday with their own unique traditions in the village of Nacimiento. —Slave hunters would patrol the southern border for escapees, led by the Texas Rangers but the Mexican army would be there waiting for them (the slave hunters) to turn them away.

Also, in the Mexican constitution, the first article mentions how slavery is prohibited in México and every enslaved person arriving here would be freed by virtue of being on Mexican soil, and protected by our laws
okay so the story here is that i checked the notifications on my u.s. phone for the first time in 8 months after moving to ireland.
mind you my voicemail message is 4 minutes long because it explains i’m in ireland and that i absolutely will not be checking voicemails, provides my email address spelled out letter-by-letter supported by a phonetic alphabet key to be as clear as humanly possible, advises that i can also be contacted by text or call at my U.S. number (the number they called) via WhatsApp, that iphone users can still text me directly using wifi or even call me using facetime audio, and finally that if it’s an immediate emergency, they can contact my mom to get a hold of me + her phone number. and there’s no option to skip the message so they listened to all that & still tried.
so you can trust that i shan’t be listening to a SINGLE one of these voicemails 🙏🙂↕️
