Oh my, I'm having a crisis.
Okay, so I might be as late to these fandoms as possible as of today, but like—
Color coding, am I right? Like, Star Trek is parted three ways: Red for security and engineering, including communications, blue for science, including medicine, and gold/yellow for the pilots and the Captain.
In Project Hail Mary, you have the same thing basically; three people are sent to Tau Ceti, a pilot, an engineer and a scientist. Grace wears yellow throughout the whole thing because he's fated to become the pilot, too. Rocky is brown because he's originally the engineer, but has to take over the other departments, too, especially on Blip A. Adrian is a scientist, as the blue inlays in Rocky's carapace indicate. Stratt isn't assigned a color, because she never goes to space.
Coltlandgentry does this parting too: Grace as the scientist, Colt as the pilot and Captain (in the walking ahead sense), Six/Court as the engineer and the security and the diplomat. (The color partings are fuzzy, but you can see that.)
And, guess what, get this: Supernatural also functions like this. (I'm screaming.)
Sam wears blue, because he's the science guy. Cas also wears blue, because he's the doctor, healing powers and all. Dean wears red, because he's Baby's engineer. Charlie is red (I'd say, it's debatable) in the same sense as Uhura is, doing computer work. Bobby is brown, because he does everything. Crowley isn't assigned a color because he's not a hunter.
And who's yellow? Jack. Captain.
And why do we rather associate Dean with green? Is it his eyes? Or is it because, when they are three, he takes the role of Kirk, the role of ethos? (This color coding (blue, green, yellow) is also the reason why I keep thinking that Jack is more Dean's kid than Sam's, which is not true.)
They put the strange, non-human guy (Cas) in medical and the emotional, safe guy as second-in-command. Because they knew what would happen if they gave the strange guy a reason to be on the bridge with the green guy. Because they had seen Spock. But like McCoy, the guy with the supid nickname, Cas, the guy with the stupid nickname(s), nonetheless always found some dumb reason to be around the action. (And who gave them the nickname?? The green guy.)
Can you hear me thinking of roadkill to avoid manically laughing in public?
Also, here's the thing again where you can (have to) choose your gender, because last time, the time frame was too short, launch is later than we thought:
Are you [...] ?
yellow (pilot)
blue (scientist)
red (engineer)
Only question is: who's the yellow kid in Star Trek?
