#color coding

⟡ Chose an aesthetic:

Do you want your blog to look extra cute? Do you want it to have a dark academia vibe? Or maybe pastel like? It all depends on the kind of content you make and post and what vibe you want to give the most to people who visit your blog.

Once you chose one, stick to it through the colors and the characters and/or pic you put in your header, profile pic, and your pin post.

The colors you would chose for a whimsical blog (soft/light green, soft pink, yellow, warm orange, etc.) are not the same you would use for a blog about dark fantasy (dark red, black, sometimes contrast with white, dark forest green, etc.).

-> The same color but in different shade is good, or one main color with white or black as the sub color is also good.

Just keep in mind that two to three colors are the max to make it coherent.

At the end of the day, if all you want is to have your favorite color be the main color of your blog, then of course you should do so :) what really makes the difference is the kind of dividers and pic/characters you chose as header, pp and on your pin post.

⟡ Dividers/Headers:

Dividers are literally the core of your aesthetic, because while yes colors play a huge role in it, the dividers sets the final tone.

What I can recommend here is to seek out the blogs who specifically make dividers. There are a lot of them, and they usually all have their different kind of style, so you'll definitely find someone who matches the aesthetic you want to put in your blog (and later on, your posts).

I personally mostly use the dividers of:

-> @/enchanthings; their design are mostly minimalist like these, and they always give different shade of the same color on each post, as well as accept recolors(asking for one set of dividers to be recoloured in another one). At the moment they are updating their masterlist so it can be a little complicated to navigate through their ressources.

-> @/dividers-are-us ; she does a lot of personalized dividers under asks, so her dividers really don't have a specific style I could describe. She has flowers dividers, lace dividers, Y2K dividers, and the list goes on. Here is her masterlist. She also does animated line dividers (like these)

Some others I also go to:

-> @/pixopix ; Again she doesn't do specific type of dividers, She has a lot of lace, heart and stars designs with different colors but also pixel dividers, animated ones, etc. Here is her masterlist, her request as of now are not open but recolors are.

-> @/uzmacchiato ; They mainly do floral dividers and dividers with a book-collage vibe, these and these are good examples. They don't stick to this style only but it's mainly that type of dividers. For a blog going with a whimsical, old school cute or floral theme, this is literally a gold mine! Here is her masterlist.

-> @/sweetestpeacreates ; if you're going for a cute childlike pastel vibe, this is the perfect blog. It's like entering a soft cloud of sweets. They do animated dividers too! and they take suggestions. I particularly like these and these but they also have ribbons themed dividers like these. These for example do not fit my blog aesthetic at all lmaoo, but they would definitely fit a cute bubbly blog, or a pastel one going for youngish/teddy bear vibes.

As for headers, I never actually went to look after one so I don't know any, but I stumbled upon one on enchanthings blog and I think they are worth mentionning!

-> @/luminities ; the post that made me look into their accounts is this one. From my pov, the overall aesthetic is mostly 'clean vintage', they however don't have just one kind of theme. example with these, these, and these. They also have a lot of profile icons (and/or possible character/famous people ressources to input in your pin post) like these, these or these, and these. They don't have a masterlist so it might be complicated to navigate through their headers and icon, but they rarely post/reblog things that doesn't align with the main purpose of the blog, so looking for what you need is doable.

⟡ In post Colors

Now this is something I had no idea how to do for a while, until a kind mutual (hi @4pp135 <3) showed me how!

It's honestly stupidly simple while looking complexe at first glance lmao

-> When writing your tumblr post, you can put it in different mode of edit, one of which is called the 'HTML' mode. The one you're familiar with and is the default is called 'rich text'.

You can access it simply by going into the settings of your draft (at the top right corner) you're currently on, scroll until you see the 'Text Editor' section, and select 'HTML' instead of 'rich text'

It then shows your draft in HTML, which is full of the HTML coding language. Meaning, you can use the code used to apply colors to written elements, which are normally limited, to put any color you want as long as you have the color code. And the best thing about it is that there are sites that do it for you! I use this one and you basically just have to copy the code with the text you want and the color you want it in and paste it on your post in HTML mode.

And it's done :) I feel like not enough people know of this although it's super easy and doesn't take much time! Matching your dividers with the colors on your script is a game changer and helps a lot in the aesthetic of your posts!
