The Sumiciu is a peculiar house-spirit from Asturias. These ravenous creatures are often blamed for the disappearance of household items and are known to swallow and disappear whatever they get their hands on. With an all-consuming void for a mouth they eat and eat and are never sated. Their true, ghostly form remains a mystery as they are never seen by mortal eyes.
Deadly infections with what has become known as "hatemold" (Jacare rowlii) are on the rise this year.
This parasitic black mold is thought to be attracted to individuals who fill their life with hatred towards their fellow humans, weakening their immune system. It has been known to affect people in the TERF community, among other bigots.
Many accounts of the legendary mermaids may owe their existence not to a fish-like humanoid, but to the elusive sea beavers (Castor littoralis).
This species of rodent, much like its freshwater cousin, builds complex wooden structures, creating artificial reefs to farm fish and seaweed. Unlike their relatives, though, their supply of wood is limited. While most rely on driftwood or tear down human docks, some populations have opted to construct intricate lures, possibly to attract human attention and provoke shipwrecks. This brings in a new source of materials to grow their ever-larger barriers.

Help! My dog keeps hunting these little animals in my yard. I don't know if this is an endangered species. Anyone has tips on how to stop dogs from doing this?
WHY DO YOU PEOPLE KEEP POSTING GORE?!?!? I'M GOING TO BE SICK!!! THANK GOODNESS MY BEAUTIFUL WIFE WORKS FULL TIME KILLING THE FOUL HOUNDS OF HER KIND OTHERWISE I WOULD HAVE BEEN TURNED TO POWDER BY NOW.

As human-led soil erosion creates more barren landscapes, invasive species like the Trapdoor Plant (Nepenthes decipula) are on the rise.
These carnivorous plants take hold in depleted topsoil, growing into large underground chambers filled with digestive fluid. As unsuspecting animals walk on them, a camouflaged leaf quickly moves out of the way to let them fall inside. Its slick interior, barbed edge, and the fast-acting acid make escape highly unlikely.
While most are smaller, some become large enough to capture full-grown humans.
This idea was suggested to me by my 6-year-old nephew and biggest Bestiary fan, Telmo! That kid is already coming up with great monster designs, he's going places! :) It's a real honour collaborating with him
notably, though N. Decipula has yet to be domestically grown, multiple guerilla warfare groups have used it in combat, due to it's general shape and structure being more or less identical to a pit trap. given that it grows naturally, finding a N. Decipula is far more cost and energy-efficient than digging a pit trap.

I usually like answering asks when they're an interesting starting point for a post. This means I got hundreds of unanswered asks in my inbox that I never get around to! So here's a big post answering some of them, dating as far back as 2022!
If I add any extra documents to my work, I like them to be things that would realistically exist in the same universe as the photos, and I want these pieces of "evidence" to be traceable and have their own history. That's why I usually do these for my Megalomorpha series, which is as much about bugs as it is about the tracing of scattered evidence to tell a story!
@lonsegronse gorgon worms! What the hell is going on with their proboscis put that thing back in
@nervousalpacahologram I have a few that just don't translate well to visuals! A smell-mimicking skunk, an echo-based monster that twists your words into something different... Things better suited to other mediums like writing or audio! Maybe I'll get to them someday :)
Bewildering question. Thanks for asking.
That's my trick. Everything I do is self-indulgent :)
Just wanted to mention this one was asked in 2024. What did Anon know...
@manga-b This piece specifically was reposted by a bunch of medical accounts on facebook and instagram, most presenting it as a case report with a made-up patient history. To this day I don't know how many of them weren't actual doctors, how many were doctors and also not intelligent enough to know it's not real, and how many were doctors AND grifters.
@emrysabyss This one's always a hard one to answer!
I keep a bunch of folders with notes on my phone, and every time an idea pops into my head I note it down! Most don't end up as art, some linger on there for years until they get combined into a different thing, some I'm so excited about I do them almost immediately!
These ideas come from reading a bunch of weird books, watching nature documentaries, suggestions from people IRL or on stream (and thinking aloud as I stream often makes ideas flow better, too!), dreams... I think it's important to both consume inspiring media, and talk to people who can help you (sometimes just by listening) take these scattered concepts and turn them into something more complete!
And that'll be it for today! Thanks for listening to my rambles :)
If you could "ship" any of your other entities besides Googliel and Terry, which ones would you do?
This was a heated topic of discussion on stream recently! A couple of standout ships were:
Brain Wasp x Womb Worm (Ship name Brainchild), a doomed parasite love story where they infect the same body but can never reach each other's organs.
Greeble x Organoid (ship name Meatcute). Both going through unethical experiments, they saw each other on the other side of the lab and fell in love. Now they need to escape.
Thanks da_clown_bepo on the Discord who made both these wonderful edits!

The Sorcerer is a piece of cave art that has stirred a lot of debate since its discovery by French priest Henri Breuil in the 1920s. If his sketch is to be believed, it might be the first depiction of a god, a shaman, or mythological creature in art. Others say Breuil's fanciful interpretation doesn't reflect the drawing's reality, which is now damaged and harder to analyse.
And yet, some claim it might have been an accurate representation of something now forgotten. Something the people of this cave knew, maybe feared, or worshipped. Something as old as the stone they painted.

I've been obsessed with this cave painting for some time now, so I really wanted to interpret it as a creature design! I recommend looking through the few available images of it, it's fascinating :) Here are some initial sketches I did of it a while back:
Also, hot take. I think Breuil wasn't that far off when he did the sketch! Most pictures you find online only show the painted part clearly, but a lot of the drawing was etched into the stone and that's hard to photograph. It's still hard to see, but this picture shows it better:
You can see the left antler and ear quite clearly here, and it doesn't look like natural grooves in the rock since it's going against the cracks! You can also see the tail better, and little lines for the fingers and toes! I'd have to assume the image is clearer and more striking in torchlight :)

I always complain about how badly represented the creatures of my local folklore are in art, and how little is publicly available. So I've decided to help with that!
As of right now, all the images in my folklore series are released under a CC-BY-SA 4.0 license! This means you can use these images for your projects, as long as it's credited and released under a similar license! These mostly include creatures from Asturias, but also some from beyond. All future instalments of this collection will be released under the same license, too! As of writing, they already snuck into some wikipedia articles on their respective matters ;)
Also yeah for anyone wondering, tumblr set the "mature" tag on this automatically. Happens every time I post the image with the cuélebre (winged serpent) and I have NO clue how it's seeing that as suggestive in any way lmao. I appealed but for now it's tagged this way and I can't remove it!
