as a magical practitioner, to say that you don't "believe in" manifestation or that you don't take part in such because of its new agey associations, is completely denying and ignoring the literal definition of the word.

There is no one traditional way.

Every culture, every region, every time period, every family lineage did magic differently.

The "you must do it this way or you're not a real witch" crowd? They're gatekeeping based on their own narrow experience or the one book they read.

Celtic witchcraft isn't more "authentic" than kitchen witchcraft.

Wicca isn't the default (it was literally invented in the 1950s).

You don't need to work with deities.

You don't need an altar.

You don't need to celebrate the sabbats.

You don't need to memorize correspondences.

You don't need to buy expensive tools.

You don't need to call yourself a witch if that word doesn't fit.

You need intention. That's it.

The rest is personal preference, cultural connection, aesthetic choices, or what makes your brain feel like magic is happening.

All valid. None required.

If your practice works for you, harms no one, and doesn't appropriate closed practices, you're doing it right.

There is no witch police. There is no cosmic authority checking if you're doing it "correctly."

Magic is older than any tradition trying to claim ownership of it.

Do what works. Ignore what doesn't.

it’s our job as pagans to respect others. i’ve met my fair share of christians who simply want to learn about other beliefs in a respectful way.

This afternoon, my 2.5 year old daughter ran up to me and said, “Want to do magic, Mama!” (A proud moment for me, naturally!)

We’ve made a spell bottle together once before, so I asked if that’s what she wanted to do and she said, “yes yes yes!” So I let her have creative control on this one. I gave her some options for intentions (luck, happiness, safety, etc.) and she settled soundly on Good Dreams.

She picked out a little bottle and I gathered up some ingredients, all of which were subject to her approval. We ended up with jasmine petals, lavender, mugwort, sea salt, eggshell powder, clear quartz, and rock crystal sugar. She instructed me on what order to add everything, then I had her say some positive things into the bottle before we closed it up (“I LOVE YOU!! GOODNIGHT!!”). She picked out a pink candle for the wax dripping, then helped me focus positive energy around the whole thing. (I told her to think about good dreams while I used my pendulum over the bottle, and she said “okay!” very seriously.)

Now she has her very own Good Dreams spell bottle in her bedroom window! 🌙🌟

TWINNING - A BODY DOUBLING SPELL VIA THE MIRROR

Being a student myself, I’ve struggled a lot with staying focused and keeping on task. In hopes of helping other students or anyone facing similar challenges, I want to share this spell.

This spell’s purpose is to anchor a fragment of your focus into the mirror, allowing it to take form as a second presence who acts as your accountability companion.

what you will need:

A calm or focused mind

A mirror or any reflective surface

The Mirror Card or the Mirror Sigil

the step:

Settle your mind. Close your eyes and ease yourself into a calm, steady state. If true calm isn’t possible, focus will do.

Call upon the Mirror. Invite the Mirror to manifest. Feel their presence forming around the reflective surface.

Channel your energy. Direct your focus down from your shoulders, through your arms, out your fingertips, and into the mirror. Imagine the energy flowing smoothly and filling the surface with

Meet your reflection. Open your eyes and gaze into the mirror. Take note of your features. Imagine (or witness) the Mirror shaping itself into your likeness—your eyes, your lips, your expression. When it feels complete, smile. The Mirror smiles back, confirming that the connection is sealed.

State your intention. Tell Mirror your study plan. For example: > “Okay, we’re going to finish this assignment, take a break, and then move on to the next task.”

Close the ritual. When you’re done, look into the mirror and thank Mirror to release them.

How to Protect Your Home with Simple Witchcraft (Beginner-Friendly)

Your home is more than a place — it’s a sanctuary. A container for your energy, your rest, your dreams, and your magic. Witchcraft doesn’t have to be complex to be powerful, and home protection is one of the gentlest ways to weave intention into your everyday life.

Here are a few simple, beginner-friendly ways to shield and bless your space:

🌿 1. The Doorway Cleanse

Your doorway is the threshold between the outer world and your inner sanctuary. Try this:

Sweep the area with intention (even an energetic sweep works).

Whisper: “Only peace enters here.”

Place a small crystal like black obsidian or smoky quartz near the door.

A single word of intention can change the energy of the space.

Light a candle (white or black works beautifully) and walk through your home slowly. Let the flame guide you. As you move, say:

“With light and warmth, I bless this home.”

Even one minute with a candle can reset the energy of a room.

🌙 3. Salt & Moon Water Blessing

This is as old as witchcraft itself.

Sprinkle salt gently across thresholds or windowsills.

Use moon water (from a recent full or new moon) to wipe down doors, mirrors, or altar spaces.

It’s simple, but incredibly grounding.

🍃 4. Herb Smoke or Simmer Pot Cleansing

You don’t need fancy tools — herbs from your kitchen work perfectly. Try smoke cleansing with:

rosemary

bay leaf

lavender

Or simmer a pot with lemon, cinnamon, and clove to shift stagnant energy.

🧿 5. Protect With Symbols

Draw a protective symbol — a rune, sigil, or even a small pentacle — above your front door with:

The 12 days of Yule start on December 21st, and end on January 1st! So let’s go over the days and what they are meant for, shall we?

⛤⃝ Day one: Mothers night (Modrannicht)

-> This day is dedicated to the remembrance and honor of the camel goddesses and ancestors.

⛤⃝ Day two: The winters solstice

-> This day is as the title says! It is celebrated by feasts, Yule logs, and much more! And represents the return of the sun!

⛤⃝ Day three: Feast of the wild hunt

-> This is a day associated with the spectoral procession of the dead and various deities across the night sky!

⛤⃝ Day four: High feast of the gods

-> This is a day for honoring the Norse gods, particularly Odin, with toasts and sacrifices.

⛤⃝ Day five: Feast of the ancestors

-> This is a day for honoring all ancestors and the family lineage.

⛤⃝ Day six: Festival of community

-> This is a day dedicated to community bonding, often involving gift exchange and communal activities!

⛤⃝ Day seven: Celebration of Thorrablot (Thors feast.)

-> A day dedicated to the Norse god Thor, marked by feasts and story telling. (The pentagram wouldn’t paste right for some reason in the title-)

-> A day for celebration of the goddess Freya; focusing on love, fertility, and beauty.

-> A night devoted to Frigg(Odins wife), and the domestic arts!

-> This day symbolizes the battle between the Cak King(light), and the Holly King(darkness), with the Oak Kings victory heralding lengthening days.

Whether you’re dipping your toes into witchcraft or nervously lighting your first candle, this FAQ is here to make everything feel lighter, simpler, and far less intimidating.

Nope! You can be:

a folk witch

an eclectic witch

There’s no certification, no exam, no gatekeeper.

🔮 “Do I have to practice every day?”

Not at all. Some witches work daily. Some only on full moons. Some take months-long breaks. Magic isn’t a job — it’s a rhythm.

🕯️ “Do spells have to rhyme?”

Not unless you want them to. Rhyming makes spells easier to remember, but intention is the real power.

🌙 “Do I need expensive tools?”

Absolutely not. You can use:

a mug as a chalice

a candle from the pound shop

herbs from your kitchen

Your craft is valid even if your tools are simple.

🐾 “How do I know which deities to work with?”

If you want to work with deities, call the ones who feel familiar, comforting, or intriguing. If you don’t want to? That’s okay too. Deity work is optional.

🍃 “What if I do something wrong?”

You will — everyone does. Magic is learned through experimentation, intuition, and self-discovery. You are allowed to grow.

🔥 “How do I know if a spell worked?”

You’ll notice:

small shifts

less resistance

Not every spell is dramatic. Some are subtle.

✨ “Can I mix practices?”

Yes — as long as you’re respectful. Avoid closed practices unless you’re part of that culture. But folk magic, moon magic, crystals, tarot, deity work, and kitchen witchcraft blend beautifully.

💛 Final Thought

There is no such thing as a “perfect” beginner. Be curious, be kind to yourself, and follow what feels like home.

Time and time again, I've seen people say "If you really practice witchcraft , you should never be broke."If the Gods/Spirits love you, you should never suffer" and honestly, it infuriates me.

Money and physical wealth are irrelevant when it comes to power or favor.

It makes me so sad and angry to see this tepid ass take doing rounds in spiritual communities, because it's just so not rooted in any sort of reality.

Money and physical wealth can come from witchcraft or Spirit relationships, but to say someone does not have power or love/favor from the Gods if they're broke is fucking insane work to me.

Some of the most spiritual and blessed people I have met live lives that aren't at all extravagant.

I look at one of the Gods I commune with, and LAUGH because they have flat out said "I am not a God of bringing about riches, so don't ask for that shit." yet... I feel acutely loved, and dare I say "favored" by them despite that fact.

If you're only in witchcraft or spirituality for money then idk man, maybe this shit ain't for you.

Witchcraft, connecting with Spirits, and expanding yourself is not about climbing your way up the socioeconomic food chain until you're sitting on piles of money.

Money =/= Favor from the Gods.

Money =/= Having real power.

The only way to define favor by the Gods, is by one's own ideals.

The way I feel favored by the Gods may not feel very favorite to someone else, just the way other's feel favored might not relay into favoritism to me.

Personally? I feel witchcraft and Spirituality is here to help us take control of life/situations in what ways we can, and growing and expanding our soul and spirit-- and I hope to fuck that if I took the money first approach with my Spirit Team, they'd spray me with a water bottle because what the actual fuck?
