Psychic Energy Practices and Utility
inspired by Jujutsu Kaisen and Frieren
current in my journey, i'm aiming to have a better grasp with my energy. i never really understand what it is actually like to see it or even use it, eventhough i have seen/ felt how my cards spirits were, my control over energy is very lacking. so i looked into medias for inspiration.
1. Frieren: Beyond Journey's End
the series' magic system is based on the original concept of an adventuring party in DnD, or just in games in general. there is the druid/priest, the hero, the warrior and the mage. in the classes, the druid/priest and the mage are magic user, but i will focus on the mage class more because my research is more about the mage and their control over mana.
mana is illustrated as an air like wisp around the body. it can ebb and flow. and as mentioned by frieren, even with control over suppression mana, movement will let the mana ebb out.
you will need to be train to notice it and from there you can do thing such as:
shared (frieren and the water mage shared a bit of their mana into pool of water to deter the sterlie from going to it)
from the mastery over mana control, spells can be utilized. As for the applicability, the grimoires and the spells are like chants and intentions that we can learn to utilize.
in the series, to master the flow of mana, a mage need to meditate and learn to expend it through spells. A mage's staff, while essential, can be negated if the mage is powerful and skilled enough with their craft, like Frieren. or like the first class mages who channel their mana to other objects to use as their main tools.
in jujutsu Jaisen, or jjk for short, there are a class of magic user called jujutsu sorcerers and the energy they use is called Curse energy. but there are variety to it. there are jujutsu sorcerers, assistances, and curse users. not all those can see and use curse energy have a curse technique, but as a base they all need to learn to control the flow of it.
Curse energy is the energy that leaks from humans as a result of their negative emotions. As a result, it has a transmutative property in it. it manifests as a flame like texture around the body of the sorcerer and the colors can varied between the sorcerers.
with basic curse energy, you can do things such as:
sensing curse energy residuals
through the mastery of cursed energy, it can be utilized in:
talisman: create and maintain seals
applying curse energy: using it in hand to hand combat, enhance your tools for durability and power, applying on yourself as armor/shield
curiously, curse energy can carry physical property. in the case of kashimo, whose curse energy has properties like those of electricity, and Hakari, whose curse energy has and edge to it. these properties can interacts with each others.
By multiplying negative energy together, positive energy can be created. This can only be done using reverse cursed technique, which requires extremely complex and sophisticated cursed energy control. through the mastery over positive energy, healing can be achieved.
the way the sorcerers practice their control over curse energy is through training, mental and physical. In the show, Yuuji was trained to control his emotions while watching horror movies. and later on in the series, Todo taught him how to focus this control into one place on the body.
the two series share a few common traits in the way they depict the energy and i have concluded some points.
From Frieren, you can imagine the established psychic energy within you the same kind of mana. And through that lens, you can control the ebb and flow, the suppression of it. in the show, Mana is shown to be like a source of battery almost, something to fuel other things to enact magic.
From JJK, you can visualize a way to utilize your negative energy through martial arts or just simply exercise. whether or not you have a curse technique is up to you but something to take not of before establishing one is a Curse technique is still in itself, a curse. they are poetic in the way they work. for example, Gojo Satoru who has limitless and the six eyes, cannot connect with other. Nobara's Straw dolls technique is creating a link between her and her target but as a person, she is very hesitant to get close to others.
Although i'm not into using JJK's system as one of my bases to practice magic, i do realize that there is a risk in trying to utilize it and i'm asking that you consider it.
