I wholly respect people who despise Easthies as a character because he’s an asshole and literally an entire cop. Even worse, actually — he’s literally the *most* hell-bent, brainwashed, and passionate member of WHA’s version of the morality police. He doesn’t hesitate to mind wipe literal *children*. Yes, Easthies has a lethal face card, but that doesn’t change that his actions are inexcusable. He’s a terrible person and incredibly flawed, and anyone who denies that Shirahama has intentionally made him a villain is missing the point of his character. Easthies is the embodiment of EVERYTHING that is inherently wrong with the Pact and the ableist system it has established.
I need you guys to know that it’s okay to enjoy villains and morally grey characters. Qifrey does all kinds of morally grey stuff. Characters who make questionable — even downright evil decisions — are what makes fiction so damn fun. Take that away and you have a bunch of boring Mary Sues. You’re allowed to write Easthies as a villain and explore the absolute insane amount of trauma this man definitely has. Like, you don’t do shit like that without having gone through a lot of awful things in the past. He reminds me of a religious fanatic and I LOVE it. Is is so, so well done and accurately depicted.
And you know what else? Easthies is still human, and despite his terrible actions, there is still possibility for redemption. But it doesn’t excuse what he’s done. He needs to acknowledge he’s committed atrocities, otherwise it’s not truly a redemption arc. It’s possible that Shirahama will “redeem” his character, but she might not. I am absolutely on board with whichever choice she makes because Easthies is a complex character with so many paths to take.
This is the wonderful part about writing fanfiction. Sure, I can pretend Easthies isn’t that bad, but it’s so much more fun to lean into that intentional depiction of him being a downright villain. I LOVE exploring his backstory and all that juicy trauma. The *why* of his actions. As someone who has a lot of religious trauma, some of it is strangely relatable. There is so much cognitive dissonance that has to happen to get to this point. Deep down, Easthies is scared. Deeply fearful of the immense power witches possess and how easily it can be abused. He takes his position in the Knights Moralis extremely seriously for a reason. He’s willing to commit heinous acts without question over and over again to uphold his ideals. This makes for an absolutely fascinating character imo. This is why he’s one of my favourite characters in the manga — because he’s an undeniable villain, but there’s a clear reason. He believes in what he’s doing and he will defend it to the very end.
So, yeah, I love Easthies as a character because he *is* a villain and he also is drop-dead gorgeous. I’m having the time of my life putting that man in situations and exploring what makes him tic. He deserves to go through it. And then I’m gonna redeem him. But it’s not going to be easy because he is stubborn to the core and, deep inside, he’s a scared little man who doesn’t want to face the fact that life simply isn’t black and white.
Do I think that this is the perfect recipe to portray him as autistic and also a trans woman? Hell yes. But as someone who practically worships the Pact and has its rules ingrained into his very soul, it’s not going to be easy. It shouldn’t be. As a member of the Knights, he wouldn’t even have a concept of being trans because transformation magic is outlawed. He’s terrified of it. Won’t let himself even think about it. He’s not gonna have an inkling of an understanding of transness or be able to admit any of that to himself until he faces the fact that he is a shit person doing shit things that have hurt so, so many people. This is the power of religious brainwashing. It’s so painful to witness and deeply cathartic for me to explore as a writer because I *get* it. The extent of internalised homophobia and transphobia and self-loathing is indescribable, truly. There is a set of rules that you have been told since birth “these are the only Good things, and everything else is Bad.”
Anyway, I could babble on about Easthies for hours. He is truly just such a fun character and I cannot wait for Shirahama to reveal the full extent of his backstory. You just know there is some juicy lore there. I will continue to enjoy writing about him and creating my own version of this deeply flawed character.

Does Olruggio know? It's a constant question. My two cents is: of course he doesn't know. Does he know something is up? Yes. Does he know that Qifrey is up to something? Yes. Does their dynamic hinge on a level of secrecy? Yes.
Does he know his best friend better than anyone? Also yes.
Olruggio is a man who spends his life in the gentle chaos of the Atelier. He watches Qifrey teach the girls with a kind, guiding hand. He watches as snippets of what he taught Qifrey long ago spill into their lessons. He watches Qifrey and considers just how explosive it would be to tell him how many mannerisms he picked up from Beldaruit.
They make dinner. They eat. Together. They live a life together. Olruggio is a prodigy. More than that, he's clever. If nothing else, he is the Watchful Eye. He watches his friend and he can't help but wonder: what are you hiding from me, Qifrey?
I hope macaque death isn't just centered around macaque Perspective,I want wukong too,I do hope it shows that wukong had justified reason to killed/beat him up macaque,maybe stay close to the book,like maybe some of the stuff from the macaque chapter, (Obviously taking out the monkey Cannabism).
if and when we find out more about Macaque's death, I want to hear it specifically from wukong's perspective. we've heard enough of the story from everyone else, we've heard of major events in Wukog's life from Macaque, let Wukong have this one. bonus points if this is also when Macaque gets called out on some of his hypocrisy/bias/wrongdoings.

This is true of the manga, but I love how the anime accentuates the absolute physical trust the apprentices have with Qifrey. Specifically with Agott, the way she is so ready when Qifrey says “hang on tight, I need my hands free” to cling to him a mile into the sky, and then in the latest episode, how, as soon as she impacts Qifrey while flying to him, she makes no move to save herself, she just curls into him and trusts that he will keep them from falling.
And I think it works as a signal to the audience, to subtly go “hey, I know we don’t trust Qifrey right now, he’s being shady, but we can always trust him to protect the physical wellbeing of his kids. Remember that.” Idk man maybe I’m getting too attached to a teeny detail but aaaaaaghhhh that’s her dad.
