Lunch, like all other meals that are included in their stay according to Utowin, is served in a small room they access through a door behind the counter where they first came in. It is a simple but tasty stew with home-baked bread. Afterwards they do spend some time winding down in the hot water and taking an afternoon nap in the big bed.
Chapter 10 of closer features a haircut and some reading!
easthies & the knights moralis are so so interesting to me i fear. they kinda aggravate me of course. because even setting aside how strict they are with the law the way they handle it is a bit strange too? like when they capture coco during the river incident they prepare to wipe her mind then and there rather than, say, asking follow up questions like where or how did she potentially learn forbidden magic, useful questions which might allow them to better serve the law and apprehend more law-breakers or prevent more people learning forbidden magic. but it's kind of clicked now that that is the whole point. They care more for punishing what they see as 'wrongdoers' that it actively harms their ability to actually help or prevent further harm. and that's especially prevalent upon reading the manga. And, with how wonderfully crafted the rest of the story is i have no doubt that it's intentional. I think it's a really cool and intriguing commentary on the justice system... easthies and the knights dont care for the people the pact is supposed to protect. or if they do, they care far more about punishing those that disobey it that it actively diminishes their ability to protect those people and prevent the law from being broken again. i dont know do i make sense. am i crazy. did everybody already know this. ohhhgh man....
I'm too lazy to actually write an analysis right now BUT does anyone else think that young Easthies uniform looks similar to a pierrot?
Probably a reach but in my delusions there's something there so...
vinanna is relatable because if easthies was my former apprentice and subordinate i’d also kick his ass whenever i saw him

Got any Utowin thoughts you’d like to share?
THANK YOU FOR ASKING.
Utowin is a former class clown who somehow became entrenched with the prissiest, most straight-laced kid around. I have head canons that are silly and affect nothing (but become slightly more serious as we progress).
Utowin hogs the covers, either from the bed or whoever happens to be in it.
Utowin seems like the kind of kid with a huge sweet tooth, but he cares more about sharing than having.
Utowin is the kind of person with tons of friends, he's so likeable!, but if you asked him he'd only count two, maybe three as people who would consider the friendship mutual.
Utowin puts on a lazy, unbothered kind of air but its just because he grew up too fast. Easthies is part of the reason that happened. It's classic class clown bs, but he is actually deeply concerned about everything. Empathetic to the point of anxiety, even.
Utowin will become a much bigger part of the story because he, along with Luluci, are the ones who care enough to ask questions. This is a huge point of contention in his strained, verging on brittle relationship with his best friend.
Maybe I'll write a lil about these headcanons later, but they were fun to jot down!! :)
A temperamental young prince and the stoic, quiet knight that protects him. An initial dislike turns into friendship and eventually blossoms into a tender love. Easthies stares at the book. That is as much of the description as he reads before he turns to the first page.
Time for the infamous onsen episode in chapter 9 of Closer!
It goes both ways
