Scientists chained themselves to the White House fence, blocked bridges and occupied buildings. Dozens were arrested.
"... āIām taking action because I feel desperate,ā said U.S. climate scientist Peter Kalmus, who along with several others locked himself to the front door of a JPMorgan Chase building in Los Angeles. A recent report found that the financial giant is the biggest private funder of oil and gas initiatives in the world.
āItās the 11th hour in terms of Earth breakdown, and I feel terrified for my kids, and terrified for humanity,ā Kalmus continued. āWorld leaders are still expanding the fossil fuel industry as fast as they can, but this is insane. The science clearly indicates that everything we hold dear is at risk, including even civilization itself and the wonderful, beautiful, cosmically precious life on this planet. I actually donāt get how any scientist who understands this could possibly stay on the sidelines at this point.ā ..."
Every single denialist depends on the idea that big brother government and climate scientists are on the same side so how do they even begin to fit this into their delusion?
You are breaking my fucking heart
lost in the moss
hi hello CATS!!!! CANNOT!!!! BE VEGAN!!!!!
i cannot believe i have to fucking say this.
dogs are omnivore and IF YOUR VET APPROVES your pooch MAY be able to go on an APPROVED(!!!!!) commercial vegan dog food like the brand āv-dogā which has all the essential vitamins, protein, etc. (the oldest record winning dogs have been vegan)
cats are CARNIVORE and cannot fucking live on a vegan diet. a vet would laugh in your face and probably find some way to have your pet taken away from you because youāre obviously not fit to have an animal if you think you can feed a cat a diet based on your own ethics
iām vegan but this is so fucking harmful.
itās about minimizing your harm, not putting your animals on risky diets in an attempt to be perfect.
DONāT FUCKING DO THIS TO YOUR PETS
Idiot people
If you see someone you know doing this, report them for animal cruelty and neglect.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
This posts, and many of the notes on it, are bothering me. Ladies, gentlemen, esteemed colleagues from outside the confines of the gender binary; gatherĀ āround. Letās throw some science in this joint.
1. Humans. Humans are not cats. Humans are not dogs. One would think this obvious, but people have a tendency to attempt such interspecies comparisons when discussing diet. Humans are order omnivora; we have essentially evolved in a manner that attempts to give us as much dietary flexibility as possible. We do, however, require a substance called B12 (or cobalamin), which is extremely important for brain and nervous system functions, as well as the synthesis of DNA and the construction of red blood cells.Ā We cannot produce this vitamin ourselvesāno animal, plant, or fungus can. The enzymes used in cobalamin production are essentially unique to bacteria and archaeaāsome species of which hang out in the digestive tracks of other animals. We get cobalamin in a roundabout way from fish, shellfish, meat, eggs, milk, and dairy products. While there is no naturally-occurring, vegan source of the vitamin that has been demonstrated effective in a human study of statistically significant sample size, effective synthetic forms do exist and can be used as a substitute. Ā CyanocobalaminĀ is one of the most common and is frequently found in fortified foods and vitamins. In short: Humans are omnivores. Humans have evolved for dietary flexibility, including viable vegetarianism. Humans did not evolve for veganism (be extremely suspicious of people who tell you that we did, as they are lying), but due to modern technologies, veganism is also a viable diet that humans can thrive on, should they so choose.
2. Cats. Cats are order carnivora. Cats require (amongst other things) an amino acid called taurine. Weāre not quite sure how, exactly, but we know that itās extremely important to feline heart wall tissue, retinal tissue, and brain tissue amongst other things. Cats cannot manufacture their own taurine, and must get it from other sourcesāprimarily shellfish, fish and meat. Taurine breaks down when heated, so feeding your cat a home-cooked diet rich in this foods is also not necessarily a good idea (talk to a vet). Secondary (read: SUPPLEMENTARY. NOT A SOLE SOURCE OF TAURINE.) sources of taurine for cats include dairy, eggs, and seaweed- or yeast-based taurine supplements.Ā In nature, cats donāt really need to worry about getting enough taurine, because (as you may have noticed), taurine sources are indeed the things that cats tend to catch and eat. However, a cat that lives in a human household is dependent on humans for food, and sometimes humans are utter fucktrucks. In short: Cats are obligate carnivores. Their primary source of nutrition is meat. They must eat meat, preferably as close to raw as possible. They have digestive tracks designed for digesting meat. There are vegan/vegetarian cat kibbles on the market. Do not buy them. Your cat is neither vegan nor vegetarian, and if you adjust their diet as if they were, you are a terrible person who is harming and possibly killing your pet. You suck. End of discussion.
3. Dogs. Dogs are slightly more nuanced here. They are facultative carnivoresāmeaning that they optimally should eat meat, but can survive on other things if resources are scare. Dogs also need the amino acid taurine, but can technically manufacture it themselves if the proper building blocks are in their diets. They also need vitamin DāD3 is preferable, but D2 can be used to some degree. Dogs are somewhere between us (the true omnivore) and the cat (the true carnivore). A vegan or vegetarian diet will keep a dog alive, certainly, but is unlikely to allow your pet to thrive as it lacks the recommended nutrients. You should probably be feeding your dog meat. The exception hereāsome dogs are allergic to conventional dog foods, or find symptoms of certain diseases alleviated by vegetarianism. In this case, a veterinarian (not you, layperson, I mean an actual trained veterinarian) may determine that the benefits of putting your dog on a vegetarian/vegan diet outweigh those of feeding your dog meat. This is relatively rare, but does occasionally happen. And no, actually, the oldest dog is not veganāBramble is the only dog on this list that I found had some indication of veganism.Ā The oldest dog on record is an Australian Kelpie named Maggie, who was not vegan. It is more likely that Bramble lived that long despite the veganism, not because of it. In short: If a vet thinks that your dog may be allergic to dog food/require a special diet and recommends you try feeding it a vegetarian/vegan diet, listen to your vet. Otherwise? Dogs are carnivora. They do need vegetables and other sources of nutrients, but their optimal fuel, as it were, is meat. Your dog needs meat to be happy. Fucking feed your dog.Ā
Now, I did manage to find two veterinarians who disagree with every other study I dug up and the American Veterinary Medical Association. Their articles are here and here. They donāt really have sources, and are essentially wholly dependent on anecdotal evidence (āmy dog is a vegetarian and hasnāt died!ā), but for those of you data cherry-pickers reading this, there you go.Ā
As a rule, dogs and cats need meat. If that makes you uncomfortable, that is your problem, not theirs. If you try to implement a vegan or vegetarian diet for your pets because you implemented one for yourself, you shouldnāt have those pets. That is animal abuse. (By the way, those of you not feeding your cats and non-allergic dogs the food they need to survive and thrive? What the fuck is wrong with you? Do you not love your pets?)
TL;DR If you do not want a pet that must be fed meat, you should under no circumstances acquire a cat or a dog. Thank you for your time.

HE LEETLE FEETSYS
very glad to see this post reduced everyone else mental capacity for communication as well
@deadlydeamonflashmob
Never get tired of this little lad. He try so hard ^^
One of the most bizarrely cool people Iāve ever met was an oral surgeon who treated me after a ridiculous accident (thatās another story), Dr. Z.
Dr. Z. was, easily, the best and most competent doctor or dentist Iāve ever encountered ā and after that accident, I encountered quite a number. He came stunningly highly recommended, had an excellent record, and the most calming bedside manner Iāve ever seen.
That last wasnāt the sweet gentle caretaking sort of manner, which some nurses have but you wouldnāt expect to see in a surgeon. No; when Dr. Z. told me that one of my broken molars was too badly damaged to save, and I (being seventeen and still moderately in shock) broke down crying, he stared at me incredulously and said, in a tone of utter bemusement, āBut ā I am very good.ā
I stopped crying on the spot. In the last twenty-four hours or so of one doctor after another, no one had said anything that reassuring to me. He clearly just knew his own competence so well that the idea of someone being scared anyway was literally incomprehensible to him. What more could I possibly ask for?
(He was right. The procedure was very extended, because the tooth that needed to be removed was in bits, but there was zero pain at any point. And, as he promised, my teeth were so close together that they shifted to fill the gap to where there genuinely is none anymore, itās just a little easier to floss on that side.)
But Dr. Z.ās insane competence wasnāt just limited to oral surgery.
When I met Dr. Z., he, like most doctors Iāve had, asked me if I was in college, and where, and what I was studying. When I say āmath,ā most doctors respond with āoh, wow, good for youā or possibly āwhat do you want to do with that after college?ā
Dr. Z. wanted to know what kind of math.
I gave him the thirty-second laymanās summary that I give people who are foolish enough to ask that. He responded with āoh, you meanāā and the correct technical terms. I confirmed that was indeed what I meant (and keep in mind, this was upper-division college math, you donāt take this unless youāre a math major). He asked cogent follow-up questions, and there ensued ten or so minutes of what Iād call āsmall talkā except for how it was an intensely technical mathematical discussion.
He didnāt, as far as I can tell, have any kind of formal math background. He just ⦠knew stuff.
I was a competitive fencer at this point in time, so when he asked if I had any questions about the surgery that would be necessary, I asked him if Iād be okay to fence while I had my jaw wired shut, or if it would interfere with breathing.
āFencing?ā he said.
āYes,ā I said, ālike swordfighting,ā because this is another conversation I got to have a lot. (People assume theyāve misheard you, or occasionally they think you mean building fences.)
āWhich weapon?ā
āUh. Foil.ā
āNo, it wonāt be safe,ā and he went off into an explanation of why.
Turns out, he was also a serious fencer ā and, when I mentioned my fencing coach, an old friend of his. (I asked my fencing coach later, and, oh yes, Dr. Z., a good friend of mine, excellent fencer.) (My coach was French. Dr. Z. was Israeli. I never saw Dr. Z. around the club or anything. I have no idea how they knew each other.)
So this was weird enough that later, when I was home, I looked Dr. Z. up on Yelp. His reviews were stellar, of course, but that wasnāt the weird thing.
The weird thing was that the reviews were full of people ā professionals in lots of different fields ā saying the same thing: I went to Dr. Z. for oral surgery, and he asked me about what I did, and it turned out he knew all about my field and had a competent and educated discussion with me about the obscure technical details of such-and-such.
All sorts of different fields, saying this. Lawyers. Businessmen. Musicians.
As far as I can tell, itās not that I just happened to be pursuing the two fields he had a serious amateur interest in ā he just seemed to be extremely good at literally everything.
I have no explanation for this. Possibly he sold his soul to the devil.
He did a damn good job on my surgery.
#op your oral surgeon is an immortal
Some god is slumming it on Earth with maxed-out stats helping people and his dive bar of choice is oral surgery.
this site has one setting
Iām laughing, but thereās a super useful corollary, which my husband callsĀ āthe Red Balloon.ā He was a defense lawyer and had a fair number of drug addicts come through, and there is a thing where if youāre like, on your first offense, theyāll do a thing where you can go to treatment and if you complete it theyāll take the conviction off your record.Ā And he would tell his clients,Ā āLook, everyoneās going to tell you not to do drugs. Theyāre going to say it over and over again. And itās like, if people tell you not to think of a white elephant, youāre going to think of a white elephant. But the trick to not thinking about a white elephant is to think of a red balloon. So you need to find your red balloon. For some people itās yoga. For others itās woodworking. For some people itās scrapbooking or gardening or any of a long list of things to do. They focus on that, itās a lot easier to succeed in ignoring the white elephant.ā So yeah,Ā āwatch yourselfā is one thing⦠but the better idea is to watch something else. (Even if itās fanfic about werewolves fucking.)
Itās a form of productive dissociation, and is super, super helpful. Itās easy for me to get bogged down in how much pain Iām in⦠but some of the most painful periods of my life have also been the most productive, writing-wise, because writing is one of my red balloons.Ā
There is a phrase I use A LOT in my parenting and my son gets very sick of it, but itās true:
The thing you practise is the thing you get good at.
You may not intentionally be practicing ābeing grumpyā but if you donāt put effort into practicing ānot being grumpyā then Iām afraid thatās what youāre doing. Itās hard! Itās really hard! Sometimes, for some things, itās pretty much impossible and that sucks!
But being carefully aware that you are going to get good at the things you do most of is a good way to be more careful of what those things are. If that makes sense.
You gotta appreciate sometimes how tumblr works in such a way that everyone who wants to reblog this interesting or useful psychological advice is also forced to reblog the thing about werewolf fucking
excuse me, I know how to remove a reblog from the chain if I wanted to.
I have cochlear implants and I can only buy parts to fix them or upgrade then from 1 corporation bc of tech exclusivity. upgrades to get new processors for both ears cost $23k & insurance only covers 90% (and itās āgoodā insurance)
cyberpunk dystopia is already here for the disabled. fight for universal healthcare, fight against capitalism NOW.
For real, itās nearly every disabled person who deals with this shit. Artificial limbs cost more than many make in a year. Medications you need to literally stay alive, that keep your heart beating or your lungs breathing, your body processing sugar which is in everything, that keep your hormonesā regulated. Items that let you see or hear or walk.Ā
This is literally reality already for millions of people, including people you know.Ā āDonāt cry to me when your ability to run is behind a paywallā my ability to breathe, see, concentrate, and sleep already are. Help us. Fight against it NOW and stop joking about how itās a hypothetical future because weāve been suffering, we are suffering, and weāre dying and we didnāt make any choice.Ā
Help us.Ā
Donāt ask someone with dementia if theyĀ āknow your nameā orĀ āremember youā
If I can, I always opt to ditch my name tag in a dementia care environment. I let my friends with dementia decide what my name is: Iāve been Susan, Gwendolyn, and various peoplesā kids. Iāve been so many identities to my residents, too: a coworker, a boss, a student, a sibling, a friend from home, and more.Ā
Donāt ask your friend with dementia if theyĀ āremember your nameā ā especially if that person is your parent, spouse, or other family member. Itās quite likely to embarrass them if they canāt place you, and, frankly, it doesnāt really matter what your name is. What matters is how they feel about you.
Hereās my absolute favorite story about what I call,Ā āTimeline Confusionā:
Alicia danced down the hallway, both hands steadily on her walker. She moved her hips from side to side, singing a little song, and smiled at everyone she passed. Her son, Nick, was walking next to her.
Nick was probably one of the best caregivers Iād ever met. It wasnāt just that he visited his mother often, it was how he visited her. He was patient and kindāreally, he just understood dementia care. He got it.
Alicia was what I like to call, āpleasantly confused.ā She thought it was a different year than it was, liked to sing and dance, and generally enjoyed her life.
One day, I approached the pair as they walked quietly down the hall. Alicia smiled and nodded at everyone she passed, sometimes whispering a, āHow do you do!ā
āHey, Alicia,ā I said. āWeāre having a piano player come in to sing and play music for us. Would you like to come listen?ā
āAh, yes!ā she smiled back. āMy husband is a great singer,ā she said, motioning to her son.
Nick smiled and did not correct her. He put his hand gently on her shoulder and said to me, āWeāll be over there soon.ā
I saw Nick again a few minutes later while his mom was occupied with some other residents. āNick,ā I said. āDoes your mom usually think that youāre her husband?ā
Nick said something that Iāll never forget.
āSometimes Iām me, sometimes Iām my brother, sometimes Iām my dad, and sometimes Iām just a friend. But she always knows that she loves me,ā he smiled.
Nick had nailed it. He understood that, because his mom thought it was 1960, she would have trouble placing him on a timeline.
He knew that his mom recognized him and he knew that she loved him. However, because of her dementia, she thought it was a different year. And, in that year, he wouldāve been a teenager.
Using context clues (however mixed up the clues were) Alicia had determined that Nick was her husband: he was the right age, he sure sounded and looked like her husband, and she believed that her son was a young man.
This is the concept that I like to call timeline confusion. Itās not that your loved one doesnāt recognize you, itās that they canāt place you on a timeline.
What matters is how they feel about you. Not your name or your exact identity.
Are you receiving my emails? Sign up now!
Iāve learned that constantly trying to correct someone with dementia, constantly insisting that they āget it rightā just stresses them out and makes everyone unhappy. At a certain point you just roll with it, try and keep them on a track where they feel safe and cared for, even if theyāre confused about the details. If my mom totally switches topics in the middle of a sentence, I just agree and ask her to go on. Constantly reminding her that sheās confused just scares her and upsets her, and whatās the use in that?

Lesbian asexual????
GUYS I LITERALLY HAVE A POSTER OF HER ON MY WALL BECAUSE SHE WAS SUCH A HUGE PART OF MY GAY AWAKENING I FEEL SO VALIDATED RIGHT NOW
WE FEEL VALIDATED IN THIS HISTORY TONIGHT
Just wanted to share this for my ace lesbian followers! Marilyn Monroe was most probably one of us asexuals, even if she didnāt know about/use the terms we use to describe ourselves today. Reading these excerpts is almost the textbook experiences of aces before we find out community.

I really like āit was like hearing all the time that stove polish was the greatest invention on earth.ā Because yes, thatās exactly the sentiment of the disconnect.
The Signs As Lyrics By The Cure.
Aries: Every night I burn, every night I scream your name. Every night I burn, every night my dream is the same.
Taurus: Iām coming to find you if it takes me all night, canāt stand here like this anymore. For always and ever is always for you. I want it to be perfect like before.
Gemini: And every time I try to pick it up like falling sand, as fast as I pick it up, it runs away through my clutching hands.
Cancer: But if I had your faith, then I could make it safe and clean. If only I was sure that my head on the door was a dream.
Leo: Iāll show you in spring itās a treacherous thing. We missed you, hissed the lovecats.
Virgo: Remember how it used to be, when the stars would fill the sky. Remember how we used to dream, those nights would never end.
Libra: Strange as angels, dancing in the deepest oceans, twisting in the water, youāre just like a dream.
Scorpio: Whenever Iām alone with you, you make me feel like I am free again.
Sagittarius: When I see you happy as a girl that lives in a world of make-believe, it makes me pull my hair all out, to think I couldāve let you leave.
Capricorn: The secrets I hide, twist me inside. They make me weaker. So I trick myself, like everybody else.
Aquarius: And the way the rain comes down hard, thatās how I feel inside.
Pisces: If only Iād thought of the right words, I couldāve held onto your heart. If only Iād thought of the right words, I wouldnāt be breaking apart, all my pictures of you.
hey so you know that vicious cycle of mental health making you unproductive which makes your mental health worse? donāt worry friend I am here with something that can help
just get one thing done. break the cycle. it doesnāt have to be some big task. in fact itās better if it isnāt.Ā decide on something that takes five minutes or less. keep it tiny and manageable - the key is to feel like youāve accomplished something, so when your brain is all, you canāt even do a single thing all day except lay in bed being useless, you can be like, oh but I did do something, brain, suck on that. it might not seem like much at the time but it helps a lot to have something tangible you can point to
do you have dirty dishes in your bedroom? get rid ofĀ āem. you donāt have to wash them, just put them in the sink with soapy water. done. easy.
do you have a pile of empty water bottles sitting there? good for you staying hydrated. but you donāt need a mountain of plastic reminders. throw a few in the trash or in recycling. donāt worry about chasing down every single one, just pick a number. get rid of 5 or 10. easy, manageable even if you feel terrible. done.
do you need to do something early tomorrow? get something ready now. just one thing. lay out an outfit. fill the coffee maker so you can just press a button tomorrow. pack your backpack or purse. bonus benefit, future you will have an extra few minutes to breathe in the morning.
do you have a pet? spend 5 minutes with your pet. cuddle them. play tug of war. make baby noises at them. your pet loves you. I bet they miss you when youāre sad. youāll both feel better.
has it been 3 weeks since you did laundry?Ā pick your clothes up off the floor and put them in a laundry basket. donāt actually wash them or even take the basket anywhere. just collect the clothes for later so they arenāt spread all over. itāll make actually doing them that much easier when you have more energy
did you manage to wash your clothes but not put them away? fold something. fold another thing. and one more. put them away. three things. you got this one.
did you do your one thing? good. Iām proud of you. even if it didnāt make you feel better, guess what? you did a thing. you got something done, you can be done now. you can go back to bed if you want.

Reblog in 30 seconds for good luck
I canāt stand elon muskās simp army like okay maybe they could idk pay for a concerted clean up effort with those billions of dollars they have? You canāt just destroy this planet to get to other ones lol. source
I live in the city Elon Musk built his SpaceX spaceport. Brownsville, Texas. It is a border town with majority of the population Mexican and Latino. With a significant amount of the population immigrants who crossed the border over for a chance at a better life. And as a Mexican and local, I can tell you things here are much worse than it seems.
The debris of his spaceships have landed on land that is considered a wildlife reserve for endangered-species.
Its home to an extremely rare beetle (the Boca Chica Flea Beetle.) known for its golden brown hue. This beetle is classed as a āSpecies of Greatest Conservation Needā.
And a little known ant species that hasnāt even been given a scientific name yet! (Its only been found in one other place in texas and Nicaragua.)
Oh but thatās not the end of it!
Heās been buying off local politicians and judges, bribing them with free teslas and campaign donations. Thatās how heās managed to get away with the mess heās caused so far.
But, he fucked up. Because the locals here were furious with how heās treating the environment and the news stations caught wind of it. And to save face, donated 30 million to the city.
Heās also been buying off properties here and after his tweets asking people to move here its obvious prices are going to skyrocket(heāll make lots of money). But this in turn with push locals out and gentrify everything. And because weāre all Latino and non-white, and most immigrants no one will care!
All of this for the sake of āinterplanetary explorationā and living in other planets!
I donāt want other planets!
This isnāt āan insignificant piece of landā! This is my home!
