Rookie Leon is fresh off Police Academy training. Claire was raised by her ex military/cop brother and has her weapon on her when she enters raccoon city. Even Grace as an analyst would have the bare minimum of training for her personal weapon. Everyone else we play as is active duty and very familiar with weapons and combat training.

Ethan is a systems engineer who rocks up to a random house in the middle of Louisiana on the whim of an email from his supposedly dead wife. This man is wearing loafers and a fuckin button up. The most stressful thing in his life (not counting his wife going missing) prior to this day was probably having to do last minute equivalency testing on a new supplier product. And he rolls up to the equivalent of hell on earth, gets maimed by his infected wife, killed by the scariest old man I've ever seen, gets back up, picks up a fucking magnum, and almost single handedly wipes out one of the oldest and most advanced forms of BOWs on earth. And he doesn't even have that big of a mental breakdown about it!
