Yknow, "TME/TMA" is not an inherently harmful concept. It makes sense. You're either affected by a specific brand of trans misogeny or you're not, and it isnt really a binary so much as a status indicator.
However I've seen so many posts using the term "TME" as a slur for trans men specifically I think if I even see you using the term I can already tell you're a weird and hateful little bigot.
I mean, everyone can be affected by transmisogyny. Sure, out of every 10 transmisogyny instances, 6 or 7 of them may be towards trans women/transfems. But there'll always be thoss 3 or 4 that aren't, and now your binary doesn't work.
It's one of those cases where outliers DO matter.
I don't like it and find it useless because of that. It erases the fact that our brothers and even cis people can be harmed by the same forces that harm us.
The issue is that it depends on how other people perceive you, which you only have so much control over.
There’s no such thing as a strain of bigotry that only perfectly affects one demographic. I’m a Hispanic trans man in the U.S., and I have this conversation about ICE a lot. It doesn’t matter if you’re not Hispanic, they can and will still target you if THEY perceive that you’re Hispanic or an immigrant. You don’t even need to actually be Hispanic or an immigrant, all you need to do is piss ICE off or even just exist.
Same concept applies to transmisogyny and transandrophobia. I’ve had people mistake me as a trans woman before, and if they decided to be bigoted in that moment BASED ON THAT ASSUMPTION, wouldn’t I be experiencing transmisogyny?
TMA/TME will never be helpful and it will never work because you’re assuming a world where everyone knows everyone else’s identity at every given moment, and that they will only apply the “correct” bigotry to the “correct” population.
