letter of the law is fun
I'm actually so curious about people's opinions on this:
Zionists and fellow travelers: if the ICJ were to rule Israel has committed (or at least failed to prevent) genocide in Gaza, would you accept that ruling? Anti-/non-Zionists: if the ICJ were to rule Israel has NOT committed (or failed to prevent) genocide, would you accept that ruling?
Zionist: would accept a guilty ruling
Zionist: would reject a guilty ruling
Anti/Non: would accept a not-guilty ruling
Anti/Non: would reject a not-guilty ruling
And please feel free to elaborate on your answers in the comments, I'm genuinely so interested to know how people might react to any eventual rulings on this (even though the case is being extended so long, and will take many years still to see a verdict).
Last call on this poll, only a day left to answer!
And since there seems to have been some confusion about it: the question basically assumes that the court and the evidence for the verdict are legitimate, so the reject options do also include those of you who might be skeptical of the proceedings' legitimacy as a whole. That's part of why I encourage commenting to try and elaborate your specific reasonings.
See, I feel conflicted. I remain convinced bibi and co are committing a genocide. I believe their intent is to erase palestinian identity from existence with a mix of the active violence they are, and by creating circumstances by which it is impossible to live and maintain community and identity. However, the standard of proof for the crime of genocide is that there can be NO other possible motive other than genocidal intent. Additionally, cultural genocide is not codified, nor is the persecution based on political alignment, both of which are in line with Lemkin’s original conception of the term. Essentially, no, I don’t think bibi should be convicted of genocide going by current legal standards HOWEVER, I think the present legal standard are bullshit. We shouldn’t be using an ultimately political definition and legal standard of proof to limit our discussion of genocide. Bibi is absolutely committing genocide even if a prosecution for the legal crime of genocide would (and should) fail by present standards. So I’m not really sure how to vote here because, while technically, “anti/non-zionist, should be acquitted” it doesn’t really reflect my actual opinion on whether or not he’s committed genocide.
(For context OP, I’m antizionist due to a universal objection to nationalism. The unification of the nation and the state into nation-states fundamentally breeds fascism imo.)
We’ve grown up in a deeply anti-social society that has abolished and punished existing in public for youth and the oppressed and priced out the poor from leisure but if you’re going to call yourself a communist you can’t be promoting social isolation and alienation as “understandable” via identity politics.
That’s how we lose and we all get killed. YOU need to be social if you consider yourself a revolutionary and not merely a sympathizer. How are you going to organize the masses without leaving your house and encouraging others to do the same, because it’s discomforting, potentially risky and won’t be easy? Revolution is risk. If you wanted to avoid risky social interactions, you wouldn’t go down the path of being a black sheep by calling yourself a communist revolutionary.
There’s risk in socializing, there’s also risk in organizing and you can’t organize if you can’t socialize! Socializing with your coworkers and neighbors, building connections past alienation, and discussing shared conditions and grievances as workers and tenants is the practice and your homework for organizing a union, a vanguard party or a people’s army.
I’ve had to overcome social anxiety in order to achieve goals greater than myself. This is a skill, not an inborn talent. Challenge yourself because ultimately what we need is to build the conditions to meet the moment, those final series of crises, and that includes at a very basic level that doesn’t exist in places like the United States is community.
You as a communist should be someone who (if able) can be relied upon by your peers. You should be concerned and investigative. You should genuinely care about the lives and the conditions of those around you, because people can smell a salesman.
As a communist you’re not trying to sell somebody on an advertisement for your lifestyle brand, you’re trying to organize people to realize their own capacity for creating social change and leadership. You need to at least attempt to be charming, charismatic, educated, humble and selfless.
Combat your own anti-social tendencies. The ruling class wants you isolated, alone and alienated not only from labor but from humanity itself.
We are trying to win a new future for global humanity in the face of our ongoing climate change induced mass extinction event and the resurgence in fascist and far right politics globally. Take it seriously. Engage with what the masses around you are experiencing, immerse yourself amongst their ranks.
You already are a proletarian and a tenant likely, you’re around workers and tenants all the time, but you haven’t broken the capitalist programming that has told you to resent other people for wasting your valuable time and peace which is money lost, to fear social risk and failure so much you avoid socializing altogether, and prevents you from gathering in too large a mass of your class comrades in the explicit interest of the bourgeoisie’s counterinsurgency efforts.
Stop listening to tumblr’s glorification of the loser and why it’s okay if you just bedrot forever. If the only thing keeping you from leaving the house is fear of socializing and not a disability, I’m sorry but communism is a philosophy of action and as a fellow traveler you have a responsibility and obligation to protect the people around you by collectivizing into a unified mass movement. You also have to do it for the people who genuinely cannot leave their homes. They also deserve protection from a worsening fascist government.

80% Of Roommates Got So Drunk Last Night
Occasionally forget people genuinely think capitalism is thousands of years old
One time I was talking about Robin Hood with some coworkers and one guy was like “he was bad because the people he helped learned to expect handouts” and I wanted to be like… okay can you explain how that flawed capitalist propaganda applies to feudalism
reminder that capitalism was literally invented in the 16th century
That’s an exaggeration. What was invented in the 16th century was mercantilism. Capitalism really dates for the beginning of the nineteenth century, with the rise of industry and cash crops over artisans and merchants. Vulture capitalism, with the notion that companies have no duties other than generating profit, is even younger.
Capitalism is only 200 years old and I have to say, they have not been an impressive 200 years
I think a lot of this comes from the fact that most people don’t know the formal definition of capitalism. We all know the word, we’ve all seen the jokes, but very few people bother to actually define it unless they’re talking about political theory and philosophy, so it’s easy to end up with the impression that Capitalism = Money Can Be Exchanged For Goods And Services.
Capitalism is the economic system where most of the means of production (i.e. everything people need to have to make the stuff that everyone wants) are owned by private individuals or corporations, who then hire people to provide the labor necessary to produce things, with the intent of selling the output at a profit. It’s the difference between “you’re a carpenter and you make a chair and you sell it” and “you’re Richard Q. Richington who owns a chair factory, and you pay people to sell the chairs you paid other people to make and then all the excess money goes back to you.” There have been Richard Q. Richingtons on and off throughout history, but that being the norm for every single industry is a pretty recent development.
An alarming amount of people seem to think capitalism = all trade, and I don’t think that’s a coincidence.

Re: Trump-Kennedy Hall. How long it takes and how hard it is to undo the damage will depend in large part on the political will of the people elected to do it. If you get hand-wringing caveat peddlers who want to deliberate for years before acting it'll never happen. Plan has to be ready on day one.
This is why it's essential to interrogate the fitness and strategy of would-be opposition leaders NOW so we can at least make an educated guess about who has what it takes.
goodbye $200 helloooo 3 groceries
I explained the concept of "blorbo from my shows" to my 71 year old immigrant grandfather because I referenced it in passing and I thought nothing of it, until today when he said "I think I'll watch peaky blinders tonight and see my blorbo from my shows" referring, of course, to Cillian Murphy playing Tommy Shelby
English isn't his first language so he's not super in touch with modern slang, so I've been accidentally teaching him to talk like a tumblr user. His favorite thing to say lately is "me when I'm a little hater" when he's like talking shit about the neighbor's son
I explained the “x before gta6” meme to my immigrant father and he, in turn, explained to me how back in his day in Romania, they had the same type of joke, except instead of it being gta6, it was about the imminent death of a singer named Gică Petrescu, who everyone was continuously shocked by because he refused to die. Every time a momentous event happened people would say, in essence: “This happened and Gică Petrescu hasn’t even died yet?!?”
So. He understood the gta6 meme immediately because they apparently had the same thing in Romania when he was young, except way, way more morbid

Kermit: it’s the muppets show!
Female Chorus:
It’s time to burn the incense,
It’s time to slay the sheep,
It’s time to wake the muppets from a thousand years of sleep!
Male Chorus:
It’s time to raze existence,
It’s time to banish light,
It’s time to call the void in on the muppets show tonight!
Statlor: So tell us, where’s your god now?
Waldorf: I guess you’ll never know
Statlor: your life becomes a torture
Both: when we begin the show!
Chorus: And now let’s get things started!
Audience: Why don’t you get things started?
Kermit: It’s time to get things started,
All:
On the aberrational, no-salvational, incantational, muppetational,
This will be your final muppets show!
