I have moments where I pay attention to the sand grains of time slipping through my fingers, I say my age out loud to myself as a reminder that I am no longer a child and my time is running out even if I don’t know exactly when

I fear I will achieve nothing in this magnificently tragic experience we all share

But also it’s a reminder that I am not forever and neither are my problems

But it also comes with a lot of anxiety knowing that some of those grains of sand are your loved ones and missed opportunities

My little sister slipped through, and my childhood was stolen by abuse, but now I make sure to cherish what I still have in my hand

I loathe loss but I’ve come to realize we lose things all the time, we shed hundreds of hair strands, millions of skin cells and liters of water everyday, memories of our lives seep away through the cracks of our souls without us realizing it, nothing is ours, not even our bodies, we are only borrowing from the earth

With gain comes loss and with loss comes gain and that’s the way of life
