Harrow thought it was a pain to deal with the old timers in her house but just wait till she has to deal with the newly resurrected youth who don’t really know why they have to respect her and who won’t immediately obey her commands (especially at a time it’s imperative they do what with all the devils and RBs coming for them) which is something she wouldn’t be used to. They don’t remember their past lives, they don’t know what’s going on, they are learning to live again, and they don’t fully grasp the traditions of the Ninth but you’re telling them they have to follow and respect this kid, who for some, is their age, or potentially die? What gives?
Not to mention 1/3 of them possess necromantic aptitude so the possibility that some might challenge Harrow at every turn because they think they are better fit to lead themselves or better necromancers generally is quite entertaining. “You’re barely around! Why should we listen to you?” one of them shouts from the crowd. Imagine hundreds of devils heading their way but Harrow first has to deal with some kid who wants to duel her for her birthright position because they can. “Behind her…every…quite young person glancing sidelong at their fellows, dropped to the floor.” They have no idea who she is, no idea what’s happening, no idea what they are doing, and they are completely awkward about it, bless them. She’s going to have her hands full. Her hands would have never been more off the reins in her life.
I know the epilogue of ntn made it clear that Harrow was plucked from home again and she might still think going back would risk the Ninth but it’s always interesting to consider scenarios for a time she does go back because they could be pure cinema due to the House’s present state.

i adore commander wake. this is not a meme i unironically adore and somewhat admire this woman. like she is up there with some of my all time favorite indigenous female characters. people often call her crazy or insane and she probably is to a degree but i can't help but love that about her.

i would kill to hear gideon's narration during the entire time everyone's just prodding at her corpse and rolling her around in the barracks in ntn. i know shes so pissed off
still drives me up the wall that gideon kissed harrow's forehead. like mind you she still hated harrow up until the pool scene and was mad at her for not making things clear and hiding things and keeping her in the dark. and yet her first thought after hearing all of harrow's agonies was to kiss her forehead and touch her face. like i dont even mean this in a wow so romantic way necessarily, i mean thats such an intimate way to react to someone. not just hugging her but literally kissing her forehead and pushing the hair from her temple after VOWING you hate her fucking guts. its such a raw and impulsive and genuine reaction and it makes me want to dig a grave for myself
