Another revenge for @windmills123! I had a great time drawing this & Iโm pretty happy with how it turned out! :)

Are we friends.... Are we cutes.... Are we yay....
what they say about leading a horse to water but not being able to force them to drink is so true. like i can make a whole post explicitly about how it is bad awful wrong to be ableist. and people in the notes will be like "yeah fuck those stupid idiots who do this. i hate those brain rotted people with no empathy. people without empathy are monsters we should ostracize everyone like this until they get the point. these bigots are just lazy and unwilling to change. imagine not being able to understand such simple concepts? haha couldn't be me." hey the call is coming from inside the house. shut up

you know what, "because i'm in pain" is a good enough reason as any. why do you want to take meds? in pain. why do you wanna cancel? in pain. why didn't you want to talk? in pain. yeah don't be a jerk to everyone you meet and expect them to welcome that. but why were you being a jerk? in pain. it's a reasonable explanation. being in pain should be enough of an explanation. it should be considered an immediate problem that we try to fix as soon as possible instead of expecting the vast majority of people alive to just get on with it.
i don't want this to come across as condescending. but when i talk about the never ending crisis after crisis that disabled people face it is strange when people just link it to burnout. like yeah regularly overdoing it will lead to burnout. but it also leads to disability. ableds in permacrisis regularly become disabled as a result. disabled people regularly become more disabled as a result. being in a state of relentless deficit can and will burn you out. and it can make your health permanently worse. a lot of disabled people are disabled because their health got worse and just never recovered. and, as disabled people, we are painfully aware that there's only so far we can be pushed before the consequences become severe. not just burning out. not just having your health deteriorate again. serious health scares, losing large swaths of our abilities, shortening our life expectancy, mental health going to ruin, dying, becoming homeless... I'm not saying burnout is easy but I am asking people to consider that there is n bottom line. if we fall too far and slip through the net then we're done for, and disabled people who are barely managing and working in an unsustainable environment are painfully aware of this possibility
Talking to my traumatized friends like โtake your time responding and donโt feel any need to cater to my opinion in this matter just tell me the truth about what you feel. Your feelings are valid. โ and itโs about like choosing where to go to lunch.
Y'all do not know how long it took for me to finally realize "telling other people what I think they want to hear" is not the nicest kindest choice for me to always make. And neither do I, because I'm still learning it, but as soon as I do I'll be sure to tell you How Long It Took.
Because, haha, it turns out? Most people actually don't need to be constantly right, always in control, and perpetually being reassured. And they'll feel funny (negative) when you treat them like they do. Because people mostly assume that how you treat them is a direct reflection of how you perceive them, and they will never assume you're treating them that way because of someone who literally isn't currently in the room.
Wild, I know.
In actuality, people already know you have a preference because that is a very normal thing to have. And because you're never as slick as you think you are, you definitely won't fool anyone by pretending you don't. So the actual kindest choice to make is to just be honest about what you want, because most people will feel most comfortable when they know for sure that the decision you've both made is truly a mutual agreement.
Genuinely? Mind-blowing concept. But a very helpful thing to remember.
i think people only taking in a surface level understanding of disability by only looking at visible aspects also tends to make them misunderstand what people actually can do. and what people actually can do is almost always "it depends". can a wheelchair user do a wheelie? it depends. can a crutches user walk up those stairs? it depends. can someone with a hearing aid or implant listen to what you want them to? it depends.
