*Pulling up a chair* I'd love to hear more about Vera and her sire
thank you mystery friend!!!
so, in the previous ask i talked about them meeting and Vera's Embrace, so let me skip 60ish years forward to when it all fell apart.
from Veronica's point of view, her beloved husband (well, they were never officially married, but in all ways except formal they pretty much were husband and wife) just left the city for a few months, during which the blood bond she was in broke, and suddenly she became aware of the fact that for 60 years she'd been bound to someone against her will. or more accurately, she never had a chance to determine her will, because he bound her because she had any idea what that meant. she was angry. so angry that she didn't bother waiting, she immediately made the decision to leave. and to move to the neighbouring domain, so that even if he came back eventually, she wouldn't have to see him.
from Ferdinand's point of view, he was bound to her as tightly as she was to him. so it probably wasn't easy for him to be away from her for so long. but, apparently, the reason why he did it is because he wanted to see how Vera would act without the bond. if the affection was real. i imagine he was aware of the distinct possibility that she would leave him, but it probably still wasn't fun for him to come back and discover she moved to a whole another court.
and the thing is, even underneath the bond, Vera was actually happy with him! she cared about him! she had to fight really hard with herself to not regret leaving, to the point where she had to basically gaslight herself that Ferdinand was much worse than he actually was. she pretty much convinced herself that the blood bond actually wasn't mutual, that he definitely avoided it somehow when biting her.
even now, which is another 60ish years after Vera left him, Ferdinand still cares about her. to the point where he indebted himself to multiple Kindred to ensure Vera's safety. and Vera still can't stop thinking about him either, which isn't helped by the fact that her beast speaks to her in his voice.
but also, it's not like Ferdie is just this good guy who made a mistake. he's trying to protect Vera largely because he feels like she's still his property. and he wants her to know that she'll never be free of him. if he found out that Vera's beast sounds like him then he'd be insufferable about it. in the time since she left him, pretty much every word they exchanged was a thinly veiled insult. they're both still a little bit obsessed with each other and i love that so much
