headcanon that a ferengi tradition is putting your new baby up for sale at a ridiculous price to show how valuable they are to you (everyone has to be polite and not actually buy them or hands will be thrown, people will be sued, etc etc)
I love the idea of Ferengi traditions that are both ha-ha capitalism but also create a functioning culture that’s more than a metaphor.
So, this is related to a headcanon I have. There's a kind of ritual sale of childhood goods as part of the Ferengi coming-of-age, which was featured in an episode of DS9. The ostensible purpose is to raise capital for the young Ferengi male. But, like, if the Ferengi were approaching this in their usual capitalistic mindset, you wouldn't really get much from what's basically a glorified garage sale
My headcanon is that it is the accepted practice to buy those goods at much higher prices than you would normally pay, serving as a culturally acceptable way of effectively giving financial support
Oh I love these, especially because of the spoken and unspoken meta-traditions around the tradition! Maybe they work similarly to the “speak now or forever hold your peace” thing in human marriage ceremonies. Everyone at a human wedding understands you’re not actually supposed to say anything at that point, it’s just a formality—but you see characters do it all the time in literature and entertainment, because it makes for such a juicy plot twist.
I bet “newborn gets purchased by evil jealous ex-business partner” is a classic plot hook in Ferengi soap operas. It’s their version of getting sold to One Direction.
Totally normal for a legitimate for-profit company to refuse to reclaim or stop running their products even after they're no longer being paid to do so. I'm sure it's very normal to just keep running your service for free when your contract's been terminated. Spending money to continue running cameras that supposedly no one is looking at is definitely not an indicator they are just run by the federal government to spy on everyone and only a wacko conspiracy theorist would think so.
The surveillance state HATES this ONE WEIRD TRICK 🤯

i love this guy
Somewhere, at a marketing firm that IKEA once hired, is a person whose study of weather and manipulation of consumer psychology has all the answers that this person seeks. They may never meet, sadly, but one can dream.
This feels like a chronicle of your investigation of the House of Leaves, except it's the House of Furniture.
girls is bugs
it really is kafkaesque
Saw this tweet and had to collect Ryan Gosling’s best PR quotes for Barbie
Hey uh brand new addition
Something broke free
Podfic is the ultimate portmanteau btw

People who think sheep are killed for their wool are so hilarious to me. Does your barber slit your throat whenever you get a haircut?? Are you a returning customer to Sweeney Todd? Lmao it grows back, fools.
This is completely ignoring the fact that the sheep's soul is stored in its wool. So sure, the body remains, but the spirit, the essence of the sheep, that's gone forever, and then as the wool regrows a new soul moves in.
Same for me, I get a new soul with every haircut. That's why my personality changes so much.
Tumblr citizenship means being completely unsure if the person posting about sheep souls is being 100% serious or is just taking the piss.
THEY TAKE THEIR PISS TOO?!?!?
Yup, stockpiling it in giant buckets to pour on the poor
I love the reactions of Asgardians in Ragnarok after they find out it's Loki pretending to be Odin. They didn't seem surprised as Loki was the son of the king, so him being the king of Asgard is not something odd. Also when Loki came back to rescue them, he asked them if they missed him or not with a smile. The average Asgardians obviously respected him as the prince. It's just those stupid friends of Thor who somehow got the audacity to mock Loki.
Here's the thing, I don't think the rest Asgard cared that much Odin was replaced by Loki. People where initially shocked, but no one seemed scared or upset. The guards reacted more to Thor threatening Loki then when Loke revealed himself as an imposter.
Loki invested in the arts and what orders he did do off the top of my head were
Pardoning the warriors and Sif for treason helping Thor out
Letting Thor have a life on Earth (after saying he was proud of him while pretending to be Odin)
Sent Sif to help deal with Asgardian and alien threats to Earth
Separate the Infinity Stones that were in Asgards possession by moving the Aether to the Collector instead of putting it in a vault with the Tesseract like an idiot Odin would do
Bring Asgardian forces back to Asgard, wearing the defenses of other Realms but bringing soldiers home indefinitely and upping Asgards defenses (Asgardians had to like that, everyone else less so)
Honestly Loki was doing great in the short time he had and only had the let down for the other Realms of taking away their protective force, but Asgard itself had to have loved having their friends and family back, the new productions, and whatever rebuilding efforts Loki focused on in the aftermath of the Dark Elf attack to infrastructure. Even cleaned up his own personal messes, including the ones to the detriment of earth, since the Asgardians that escaped were from the prison break and they left through the weakpoints he apparently pointed out for realm travel. (I think, I may be misremembering or making up a line about the realm travel being bc of his knowledge?? Idk man)
But yeah, Loki did great for Asgard as a king.
Yeah, all of that, also, thank you for giving me more evidence to back up my "the guards were actually on Loki's side since T1" headcanon.

Ozempica Firestone clutched orphanly at her hot dead mother's locket, thinking about how orphanful she was. She was quite the most orphanest slender blue-orbed blonde seventeen and 11 months orphan in all of Appallingly Researched Somerset Village. Her two stepsisters, Size 12 and Size 14, glowered midsizedly at her across the tavern. "Lork Darkdunkelheartthorn will never choose you," they sneerifie sneeringly. "You're just a fragile beauty with a voice that turns mud into gold. 1/6 "I don't care about marrying Lord Darkdungelheartthorn," she blushed thinly over my broom. "I care about sad children, and lonely kittens, and bandaging injured unicorn toes." "Too late," whispered Lord Darkdunkelheartthorn loudly. "I am in love with your fragile thinness and want to buy you stuff in the historically wobbly castle of Darkfaeblack where I live and do morally dubious aspirational wealth porn." "Never!" She daintied petitely. "I want to be thin and starving among the sad children." 2/6 The table turned to gold, and the hungry children started chopping bits off it to sell immediately. "I am needed here," she whispered prettily. "We will marry you!" Said Size 12 and Size 14. "Never!" He roared fatphobically, turning them both into ravens. "I only have eyes for Ozempica. As you cannot love me, I must abduct you at once which will definitely improve the situation and encourage positive sentiments towards me while I buy you stuff tht is jarringly of the wrong era." 3/6 Before anyone could object further, he swept her into his dark magic fae arms. She weighed roughly the same as a decorative throw pillow, or 300g for EU audiences. "Release me!" she slimmed thinly. "I cannot!" he bellowed bigcockly. "Why?" she waisted 20inchly. "Because books are 70k words, and also something curse three days shadow moon fate true love monster turning etc, etc," he expositioned, rubbing coins on his 10 pack bulging crotchly. She nodded sadly, accepting her fate. 4/6 They then had hot morally grey sex in alternative chapters with a weird b plot about gnome genocide at the following locations: turret, throne room, glasshouse, bridge, haunted wood, haunted ship, sex dungeon, sex library. Ozempica discovered a book expositioning the gnome genocide in a shelovesbooks kind of way. "But I loved you!" She wept unproblematically. "How could you gnome genocide knowing I would oppose that thinly until more hot acrobatic oral sex?" 5/6 Her tears landed tearingly upon the carpet and immediately transformed into tiny crystal roses worth approximately £4,000 each. To her horror, her beautiful voice had turned him to gold. "No, true love I love you true love true love kiss kiss," she wept into his gold abs. He turned back into dark robed darkness. "Now that you have loved me the curse from chapter 3 is broken and also I understand genocide is bad and won't do it again," he announced hornily. Reader, she banged him. 6/6
The last image, in the reblog, is Portrait of Monsignor Giovanni Battista Agucchi, the 1604 portrait currently attributed to Annibale Carracci. It depicts a bearded man with short hair wearing a black three-pointed, holding a letter in his hands and looking directly at the viewer.

The moral of Death Note is that cops raise evil children
I wish I was better about paying attention to channel names because I did watch a video a while back and this was basically the whole video summed up. Like, everyone knows Light was an arrogant fool who sewed the seeds of his own destruction but his solution to the societal problems he lamented about in the first chapter was literally something only the juvenile son of a cop could have come up with.
To Light, Crime was the source of society's "Rot." And his philosophy on what constituted "crime" was basically about normal-ass people who were willing to break the law. you know, the laws Cops enforce.
It also explains why he's indiscriminate rather than surgical. Because of his own biases, he never stops to consider the flaws in the methods of who gets arrested, or how that never actually seems to have an impact on Crime Rates tm. Cops (like Light) simply see this as evidence that they're not arresting enough people! That they're not going far enough! And these are the values our protagonist was raised with. A surgical strike would let Real Criminals off the hook, while targeting people who, yes, may be more evil by orders of magnitude, but they do it in a LEGAL way!
I don't think the story ever consciously addresses this. The Watsonian explanation for that would be that we don't really get to see exactly WHAT values Light's dad instills in his children - he's a major character, but Light spends far more time putting him on a pedestal than actually engaging with him. A couple Doylist explanations might be either that Ohba didn't condone Light's actions, and considered an outside exploration of his motivations to be either uninteresting to explore, or perhaps too much of a challenge to pull off in a story that so heavily revolves around the protagonist's inner monologue. I think it's far more likely, though, that this wasn't intentional - Light's dad was a cop so that he could be on the Kira taskforce and we could get the drama of Light being hunted by his own father, and the blind spots that created for both characters. Knowing the story, and how these characters are used, I find it hard to believe there were intentional ramifications beyond that. But that doesn't change the fact that they're there, and more than anything it serves as an explanation for why Light was the way he was.
Also, it is important to remember that Light started with criminals, but that was never his sole intention. Later in the show (I haven't read the manga) there are mentions that he also wants to punish people who are lazy and the like.
Also I must bring up the live action adaptation, (not the netflix one, but the japanese one, there's two movies) which does alter the story a bit to have some more interaction between Light and his father. (it's been too long since I last saw them so I can't give a full critique) his dad is still alive to play a role in the finale, which in my opinion is quite interesting.
I also read (forget the source) that "heart attack" was the default cause of death that Japanese police would claim whenever someone died in their custody. So, yeah. It's not an accident. Light is definitely A Cop, and this is a story specifically about why Cops are bad people.
