y'all i know this is an issue but also please try to remember that cars crumple specifically so you don't crumple in a collision -- obvs companies cut corners in every sector but when you run into a tree or someone rear-ends you your vehicle is designed react to the force of that impact to minimise how much of it reaches you, that's very much done on purpose to save lives lads

Yes very important! When they made cars out of rigid steel, the cars survived crashes a lot more but the passengers survived a lot less. Something has to be damaged in a crash and it's much better for that to be the car.

The book I plugged before, Walkable City, said that a successful public transportation system should run at least every ten minutes. If people have to wait more than ten minutes for whatever they’re waiting for (bus, subway, etc.), then they’re more likely to decide to just drive to their destination. This is obviously more true for places with an entrenched driving culture, but anyway, the book said that almost no municipality wanting to start up a public transportation system wanted to pay to have it run every ten minutes, because that would mean having more buses/trains and hiring more drivers. So, instead, most of them decided that a 15-20 minute wait was their goal. And then, when the public transit system failed, the municipality would be like, “See?! People just won’t use public transportation! :-(” And part of the book’s argument was, well, they are indeed much less likely to use *bad* public transportation, yes.

I’m so glad ‘rotating X Favorite Character around in my mind’ came into fanon lexicon because !!! It’s so true. I love my favs but sometimes I’m not actively fic planning or character analyzing or whatever. Sometimes you don’t do anything with them but fiddle with their general vibe like one rolls a coin between their fingers. Sometimes you just, rotate them in your mind while thinking absolutely no thoughts about them

I hope every writer who sees this writes LOADS the next few months. Like freetime opens up, no writers block, the ability to focus, etc etc you’re able to write loads & make lots of progress <3

Ok so the thing about reading like books which are “predictable” is that I, a story enjoyer, go completely bonkers about it bc its like Enrichment in my Enclosure. A scene parallels another earlier scene between different characters thus serving to highlight the differences in their views and priorities???? A line makes me think “hmmm I bet that’s gonna be relevant later” ends up being relevant later????? I am a tiger chewing ice cubes out of a pumpkin. I’m so so happy. Please foreshadow more things. Throw the completely anticipateable plot beats at me like catnip mousies!!!!!
