Female-led synthpop seems to has crept up on us and resurged, so to speak. To name a few examples, Grimes, FKA Twigs and, most recently, Chvrches. Enter, Ballet School.

The sound is rooted in 80s pop, featuring once-Depeche Mode, Madonna-esque synth-bass stabs, eschewing some of the idiosyncrasies of the. I’m in the American heartland. It’s midnight and I’m driving down the highway. Bruce Springsteen subsides from the car radio and chiming reverby guitars open ‘Heartbeat Overdrive’. Tomorrow I’m going to pick my girl up and go to see The Breakfast Club. We’ll talk about getting out of this town and chasing the city dreams.

Next on my radio is Twin Shadow. I am misled, they are from Germany, although, I never made it to Berlin. America moved on to lo-fi twenty years ago. My heart tells me that Ballet School are more than a rehash, their soundcloud tells me they are more than a one-hit wonder. If right now Lorde feels like a Lana Del Ray knock-off, Ballet School offer the shade and tone you might be looking for. - Harry -

P.S. After intially writing this piece I saw them live as a three-piece. They are a tempest on stage, led by sultry siren singer Rosie, who possesses vocal presence of Kate Bush/Alison Moyet and the attitude of Siouxsie Sioux. If anything her voices shines with greater freedom live. It was transcendental the whole way through. The full-length is going to be good.

Thrilled to announce the first announcements of the line-up for Harfest 2013 – alongside a Bandcamp compilation with all their sounds in one grow-your-own space (above)! Will be announcing the finishing touches to the line-up as they develop! Firstly very happy to confirm that Nana Jonquil will be catering on the Saturday evening – doing a selection of locally sourced, freshly cooked cuisine – Lincolnshire sausage hotdogs, beef burgers and a vegetable curry! So make sure you bring your pound coins along for some replenishing grub!
