Harry Violet's Harfest 2013 Announcements!

Over the last three years Harry Violet’s Harfest has grown into something I never expected. What started as some mates bands playing in a field has evolved into a jam-packed eclectic line-up, with bands and fans coming across the country to it’s agricultural aesthetic. For me, Harfest is a more than a day, its a community – and I want to thank everyone who is a part of that - and it is great to see where our friends as some of the artists are going these days! *insert* - two of my best friends shared their first kiss at the first harfest and are now engaged to be married woot!!
Harfest 2013 will be on Saturday 7th September (in line with the harvest - and is in the same field as ‘11 in line with crop rotation) and will see some changes. I am aware of my limitations as one man trying to deliver everything, and Harfest is at a point now where it has the potential to become something really special. In order to make it’s running smoother/efficient I am introducing an electronic application (word doc) to help us pick out the acts and a set a stricter line-up. Acts will come down to the farm on the Friday afternoon to set-up and unpack to reduce delays on the day. We’ll have a Harfest party on the Friday night and get to know each other - and I’d like to encourage as many non-band-members to come down on the Friday and camp over too! Let’s make a proper weekend of it!
I want to build a Harfest Team too! I know the ropes now and I am happy to let go of some of the control for more creative input and hands! Whether its being involved in a truly DIY indie musical festival run by fans for fans, getting event organisation on your CV or simply getting your picture and praises up on the Harfest website (in development)! I am looking for volunteers to form a team/committee but specifically want a stage manager, a sound guy/gal (potentially two, to split up the work), and a photographer for the day in particular. If you are at all interested in joining in then get in touch right away!
The challenges that lie ahead are building the event (& décor) beyond a gig in a field, better tech, recruiting a loving and devoted team, fundraising (includ. Kickstarter), making creative media, designing a short run of t-shirts, getting catering in, keeping recruiting high quality acts, forging a community, turning Harfest into a whole weekend and trying to get hold of that much needed portaloo!
I for one look forward to them, and when I take a step back and look at what we have already achieved, completely independently without external support, I’m full of optimism for the future!
