sorry for the delay i know i promised Saturday but i was playing Animal Crossing the whole day. anyway here’s Part 2! here is part 1 if you haven’t read it.

“I’ll hide my identity and make contact with them, and then I give work that will force them to spend a lot of money,” Daisuke said in a relaxed tone. “Well, I think I can do it in parallel to tailing them.”

“What kind of work are you thinking?” asked Kojima while giving Daisuke a dirty look.

“Haha,” Daisuke’s fair face became a little red. “I haven’t thought about that but I’m flexible depending on the other party.”

“That’s bullshit.” Ninobiki said with a big smile. “If that’s the case, you need a clear calculation in addition to the proper investigation policy, Mr. Kambe. This criminal won’t get caught in the trap if you’ll only rely on intuition.”

“No, I don’t think it’s a bad idea.” Saruwatari started to support Daisuke. “And compared to everyone, Kambe-kun would be perfect for that role.”

“Why?” Saruwatari replied, facing Captain Fukuyama, his eyes illuminated with interest. “In order to get people to spend money, we also need to show them that we’re spending first. That’s the best way to encourage people to spend. Kambe, you are the youngest of the detectives here so you should be able to get close to the four easily and if any one of the four is the culprit, then he would want to spend money just by being with Kambe. Even if Kambe isn’t aware, he will just be looking at how Kambe spends his money.”

“Are you too?,” Fukuyama said with a little caution to Saruwatari who was so supportive of Daisuke’s proposal.

Saruwatari answered without hesitation, “I don’t have money. I don’t feel like that because I’ve given up from the start. But this criminal is different. He has 500 million yen cash anyway.”

“What if you become friends with the suspect then he is identified as the culprit?” Kojima frowned. “If that’s the case, I’ll get back at you.”

At that moment, Saruwatari busted out laughing.

“There will be no chance he will be exposed. Is there a detective that rides a Cadillac, throws away cigars without even half-smoking it, leaves a 100,000 yen lighter and walks in the rain wearing a tailored suit from England? If Kambe exposes them, it is because he’s a millionaire so it it the less likely he’ll be suspected as detective.”

“Do you always do that?” Captain Fukuyama looked at Daisuke with an amazed face. “Leaving lighters worth 100,000 yen?”

“That would be ridiculous. I don’t always do that,” Daisuke gazed at Saruwatari for a moment, then turned his flushed face to Fukuyama which was dissatisfied. Daisuke wrinkled his eyebrows because he is slightly annoyed..

“How about it Cap? Please forgive me if I need to contact the four suspects. I think this plan is worth trying. Even if it doesn’t work, it wouldn’t mess with the subsequent investigations. Of course I will never reveal my identity as a detective until the end and I will prevent from being identified as one by any means. You may decide that this a personal errand, leaving my job as a detective.”

“Well, it doesn’t matter now.” Fukuyama nodded. “Okay, I’ll permit that. I’m just a little worried using your private property for this investigation, but you will be spending money for the persons involved. It’s good to consider you need to charge an investigation fee once this case is settled.”

“That’s the Captain’s sole discretion.” Kojima said with a frustrated expression because the decision was not consulted to him.

“Yes,” Fukuyama glanced at Kojima. “I didn’t listen to any of you guys but I will allow it.” He nodded, looking at Daisuke. “You can do it but be careful. The suspects are not yet criminals. Any person must be treated decently even if he’s a suspect. If it is possible that none of them is the culprit, don’t bother anymore, ok?”

“That’s fine.” Daisuke nodded a lot. (TL note: not really a lot but nodded with enthusiasm? like 3 to 4 times? lol idk)

Nodding with Daisuke, Saruwatari said. “Rather, we’ll give those four a very good experience.”

“Enough with being extra,” Fukuyama said to Saruwatari. “Well then, I’d like a report from those who are following our suspects.”

Rather that being a detective who is thin and wears glasses, Tsuruoka looks like a scholar. He slowly leaned and took out his notebook from his pocket. “First of all, from me.” he looked at Daisuke and coughed.

“The one I was in charge of tailing was Tetsuya Hatano, a man 30 years of age. He was 23 years old at the time of the incident. He’s a clerk at a camera shop and lives with his mother. He is living in a detached house from his father but he has some kind of laboratory or workshop in there. In other words, he’s an invention fanatic. He likes all kinds of mechanics and maybe, have a motorcycle. He is very smart, in fact he won many contests because of his ideas. The camera shop is closed every Tuesday because he goes to the patent office. He tries to get patent application for his items and blueprints. According to someone who has known him for a long time, Hatano always complains that he has no money to study. It seems that Hatano is a very talented at his college days and I think that crime can not be planned unless by someone intelligent and this guy laments that he has no money. I interpret it as he did a crime due to his frustration and he stands out now that the statute of limitations is near. There are other strange things that gets in to my intuituon so I’ll tell them to Kambe later.”

After closing his notebook, Tsuruoka leaned back against his chair. Nunobiki began to speak.

“The man I’ve been following is also very suspicious I think. Suda Jun, 28 years old must be the real culprit. Why do I think he is? This Suda guy is very poor. He lives alone in an apartment. He hates rich guys so much and only says bad things about  the president and executives in the construction company he is working for. Of course, I don’t bad mouth my collegues. So on where he is, he’s a relative of the owner of the oden house near my house where I often go. This relative of him also hates the rich, he talk about it all the time. His hobby is motorcycles but he mainly uses it for commuting. On my way home to work one time, I saw him park his motorcycle in front of the food stall, have a drink and talk to his relative. Although he graduated from a prestigious university with good grades, he feels that he is shunned by everyone from work and he’s dissatisfied with it but the reason why he does not explode from that is because he has the 500 million yen. I wonder it is because of that.” Fukuyama raised his hand. “Well I guess you can talk more details to Kambe later. Who’s next?”

“I’m sorry for you Nunobiki but I’m definitely with my guy,” Kojima grinned. “The name of the man I’m following is Akihiko Hayakawa. He’s now 27 years old but 20 at the time of the incident so I do not feel he’s too young. He’s a very clever guy, and has a habit of stealing. When he was a minor, he often steal from shops in other ways that I don’t think a kid can so I think he is only guided by someone so there is no criminal records. However, it seems that he wants money, and has this happy-go-lucky- personality so he has this habit until highschool but when he entered college, he just stopped. Well anyway, he lives alone in a boarding house and has never settled for a decent job for a year. Currently, he’s just playing around. He’s hobby is clay pigeon shooting. I guess he’s spending a lot of money in it. But, clay shooting is quite a skill. Motorcycles are used in and out of the shooting range in the suburbs. That’s for the main part so if you want to know more Kambe, I’ll tell more later.” Kojima ended his speech with a nasty smile, which confused Fukuyama.  "Personally, I don’t like to use this kind of investigation method, using decoys or traps or slam the criminal but that doesn’t mean I refuse to cooperate because of our policy. I hate being an asshole. I think that each person in charge of tailing will continue to follow along with Kambe’s contact with the suspects. As soon as I know anything, I’ll tell Kambe, so I will do the same like everyone else.“ Kojima intentionally showed of his fang to display his broad-mindedness.  "Then I would like a word from Kambe-kun if a suspect other that the criminal spends money while seeing you, it will take a lot of work. I’m sure you can return the money they have spent after the case is settled, isn’t it?” After that, Kojima gazed at Saruwatari who said something from the side. “I’m asking you, Mr. Kambe.”

“That’s right.” Daisuke nodded. “If a person other than the criminal gave up because he has no money in the situation where he has no choice but to spend a lot, this would give some psychological damage, but also financial. Some may not. Of course, I will take thorough measures to prevent them from doing something irreparable because of their greed, and  make sure to get back what they have spend, also in some way,  the psychological damage they have suffered.”

“That’s brilliant. All about making money.” Kojima mockingly said. “This is my first time to attend such a strange investigative meeting.”

Daisuke’s face turned red and shyly looked down. (TL note: I. NEED. TO. SEE. EMBARRASSED. DAISUKE. IN. THE. ANIME.) When everyone’s laughter disappeared, Saruwatari began his report.

“Sakamoto Kazuki. 29 years old. I think he’s the criminal. He’s a bartender but a college student at the same time. He lives in an apartment. I can’t do that because I’m poor. He also asks his customers to make sure they’ll come once he opens a store. His hobbies are motorcycles and billiards. He use it when going on dates with a young hostess at the bar in the suburbs. He got hustler skills at the billiards so he used it to raise money. I also know Kambe has a good billiard arm so i wonder if it is possible for the two of you to meet at the billiard hall.”

Yay! I did an initial rough translation. I am still learning Japanese so please don’t expect 100% word-by-word perfect translation. This is just based on the level of my understanding of Japanese so please bear with me~ *thanks to my dad’s (credit card) i got a copy*

“Now, gentlemen. There is only 3 months remaining before the 7-year prescription of the 500 million yen robbery case.”

Fukuyama, the stout-looking captain of the special investigation headquarters, looked around at the 20 detectives with an expression that’s similar to Alfred Hitchcock. “A total of 200,000 investigators were put in, 150,000 suspects were questioned, and all prepared investigation materials are in one data room.”

“All of that was not wasted because we were able to narrow down the suspects to four.” Detective Kojima who has been an investigator since the time of the incident, turned his eyes to Fukuyama as if to challenge him, He has just arrived at the station after his previous captain recently retired.

“No, Nothing is wasted.”

Ignoring Fukuyama, Kojima showed his sharp teeth and gazed at everyone. “I found the special paint used which is our strongest clue was sold to only 56 people from a specialty store.

"It’s beige, right?” From the side, Detective Nunobiki who’s missing a front tooth and looks like Alfred E. Newman interrupted. “Of the eighteen people who bought the beige paints, three are women. Then the fifteen people. Out of the fifteen, there are elderly.” Nunobiki said. “Two are more than 60 year old. Then the thirteen. Out of those, three doesn’t drive a motorcycle so down to ten.”

“Wait a minute. Is it really okay to exclude those three from our suspects?” rushly asked by Captain Fukuyama. “Even if you don’t have a motorcycle and have no license, you can practice going somewhere secretly.”

Kojima overtly glared at stared at Fukuyama with a blank expression. “Of course there’s a possibility not to included those three people. Of those three, two are elementary students”. Nunobiki said. “The other one only has one leg.” “I’m a man who can’t ride a motorcycle,” said Kojima. “Then on the ten, three of them have solid proof that they were not in the scene.”

Captain Fukuyama asked shyly this time, “Is there no possibility that the alibi of those three people will collapse?”

“One was in the police station at the time of the incident because he vandalized a wall of a university building about capitalism using the paint he bought, the other one died days before the incident. In other words, he’s in heaven at the day of the incident.” Kojima replies politely with a serious look.

“The last one is attending a meeting at the Prefectural Police Department, which is a chief. He claims that he bought the paint for the rabbit hutch in his garden. Would you like to check on it again?”

Fukuyama coughed, “No need, that would have been true.”

“The seven remains.” exclaimed Kojima.

“It was clear that three of them haven’t got the chance to use the paint they bought. Of course I checked and confirmed it to them. Immediately after buying the paint, one of them fell down at the front of the store, the lid was opened and the paint splashed on the road. There was a lot of fuss but many people in the shopping district confirmed this. The other two left their paint on their garden and storage room.”

“Then the four,” Nunobiki screamed from the side for attention.

“Mother Goose has a song called Ten Little Indians.” Detective Saruwatari whispered to Daisuke, who’s next to the door.

“What’s wrong? Please speak in our language.” after Kojima gazed at Saruwatari, Daisuke held his cigar in his mouth and hung one end of his lips to show his canines. “Kambe, stop smoking in this room.”

“Ah, that was rude,” Daisuke quickly extinguished the fire of his cigar, which was still only one or two centimeters of ash, and while covering it, he politely threw the cigar, which was broken into half on an aluminum ashtray.

“But Kojima-san, were you also smoking?” said Saruwatari with a grin.

“It’s good if it is only a paper roll, but it’s a cigar.” said Kojima. “How can I talk about work when someone’s smoking a 8,500 yen Havana cigar?”

“I think there is discrimination,” Saruwatari defended Daisuke while still smiling. “Because Kambe only smokes cigars”.

Nunobiki is smiling from the side is staring at Saruwatari, “Hey, You’re a detective. Don’t side with the millionaire too much.”

“Haha. You’re right. That’s the son of a rich man, Kambe Kikuemon.” Captain Fukuyama leaned towards Daisuke then rounded his eyes. “I only heard from the chief.”

“Enough talking,” Kojima shouted, “There are four remaining.”

“Four people, four people,” Nunobiki raised his four fingers and nodded to everyone. “All four of them had no alibi on the day of the incident, had a motorcycle, were in their late 20’s, and are in the montage photos, however, I’m still not sure if they have already used the paint. They are now being followed just to make sure and to get information. We haven’t investigated their houses yet.”

“But we only have three months left,” Capt. Fukuyama said to Kojima with a slightly frightened tone. “Isn’t it better to start investigating those four people as witnesses before the prescription period ends then conduct a house investigation?”

“We will.” Kojima said, lowering his voice.

“I’m thinking of the case where the criminal didn’t hid the money in his house. Once they were looked up as witnesses, they would always think that they are being followed.” “I think it’s fine to look into them so that they can be alert.”

“Whether or not the three months time is imminent depends on how you think.” Fukuyama murmured with a stern look, Kojima bowed lightly. “Of course if Captain instructed to call them as witnesses, I wouldn’t push my opinion thoroughly.”

Saruwatari, who was the farthest away from Kojima and Fukuyama, shouted loudly, “If you notice that you are being investigated as a suspect, the criminal may act like he’s digging his own grave, like trying to change the hiding place of the money.”

Kojima bowed his shoulders and turned to Saruwatari, “Yes, there are criminals like that but in this case, do you think a smart guy who thought of this crime would do such a stupid thing?”

“So I wonder if they will continue to follow them until the time limit is almost over,” Fukuyama seemed to be annoyed and started drawing infinity symbols with his finger on the desk. “Isn’t there anything else we can do but just keep tailing on them?”

“Well, it should be done in parallel to tailing them. They should sense that we are actually investigating them.”

“Uhm,” Daisuke raised his hand at the seat closest to the door. “I have a suggestion”.

Fukuyama nodded with a sullen look, “Please tell us.”

“If the criminal will start spending the money, they should know where it is hidden so I think it’s good to let the four of them spend money.”

I've been listening to this for 25 hours

The example used most often is that of a courtroom judge, whose ability to fairly evaluate the cases they’re presiding over deteriorates during the day. Elsewhere I’ve seen the example of grocery shopping– when you’ve got a tight budget, every single item you look at requires complex cost-benefit analysis, to the point that you’re mentally exhausted and not making good choices about anything by the time you get to the register (where, conveniently, you’ll find candy, cigarettes, and scratch-off tickets waiting for you). 

But even smaller things than that count.

I’ve watched my partner spiral into a panic attack when I asked him what he wants for dinner.

I’ve broken down sobbing over someone asking me I want to do on my birthday, and I’ve shut down altogether over something as innocuous as what color I want my bed to be in minecraft.

Even the tiny, mundane, innocent choices just feel like they’re too big, too much, too overwhelming. 

Like with a whole lot of mental health things, it’s incredibly difficult to do anything about this kind of thing if you don’t have the words for it or the means to explain it– and damn close to impossible to explain any of it when you’re in the thick of a bad episode. But once you have that language and understanding in place, things do get easier.

Because then you can get to the point where “I don’t know” and “I can’t make a decision right now” are perfectly acceptable answers that don’t require any further explanation. 

yet another thing the dursleys berate him for and hes quick on the nonverbal cues to do dishes and clean (mainly pointing and being shoved) and hes forced to become pretty alright at lip reading but he cant communicate back bc he doesnt know sign

a particularly great muggle teacher rallying to get him an interpreter and she smuggles him bsl books that he keeps hidden in his cupboard and for the first time harry can SPEAK besides broken syllables and mouthed words but no one actually wants to hear what he has to say still

and hagrid has no idea harry is deaf when he comes to get him! what do you mean you let the great harry potter go deaf! and harrys super weary bc he cant lip read this new accent but he goes with hagrid anyway

ron struggling at bsl and hating himself for it and begging hermione (whos a natural) to please help him and harry cant believe theyre even putting up with him let alone learning how to communicate with him

madam pomfrey and hermione looking up hearing spells for harry but harry doesnt actually want to hear? he doesnt have any memory of hearing, besides the night his parents died, and being deaf is who he has been for years like thank you guys but this is who i am

hermione helping others learn bsl and helping harry with his nonverbal magic and pronunciation for verbal magic. Minerva learning to sign and placing an interpreter in every class of harrys bc thats what he deserves

ron teaching everyone at the burrow how to sign so harry has a whole family he can speak to when hes visiting
