I think Shane was a character who, soon as I read him, made all the sense to me. I felt immediately a kinship and an ownership over Shane. I was like, “I need to be the only person to tell this story. I get it. I want to be the person to be Shane and I want to spend time with him.” [x]

Shane had to be perfect. As a visible minority every mistake, every slip, every single move was scrutinized and picked apart and used against him and he had to smile and apologize and beg forgiveness.

Hudson Williams was essentially hate crimed as a teenager and it blew up and everyone and their mother was using it as proof that he was actually a terrible person and he needed to smile and apologize and beg forgiveness.

Ilya gets outed and its great and he gets the happy ending and everyone gets to make fun of Shane for his fear of what would happen - even though he was right - because it all worked out great for his white partner.

Connor Storrie's Soundcloud is "leaked" (even though it was never hidden) and it turns out he'd been following and liking neo-Nazi music and it's all fine, it doesn't make mainstream news, he's just edgy and quirky and only a few people are upset about it.

Me: it sure is ironic the real life parallels between how Shane and Hudson Williams are treated vs how Ilya and Connor Storrie are treated and the way white privilege plays into that

This person: you're bullying a famous man who will never know you exist or read these words at all! Also Hudson is half white, have we mentioned yet how the visibly racialized man is half white and also you're always playing the white card so really you're fetishizing an Asian man who is *checks notes* more privileged than his white costar.
