electability is i think the most damaging lie the US democrats tell themselves, without that bs there wouldve been so many more progressive victories (like the ones we're witnessing now) and the world would be much more improved.
for instance when biden went for potus, so did elizabeth warren (i think? i wasnt super into politics then so memories arent great) and she wouldve been SO much better than biden, but the stupid electability thing kept a lot of people from voting from her in the primaries.
but i think what the dems need to realise is that they need their voters, and that seing voters arent always halfway in between. electability may work in australia, but in america when you can just not vote, its easy for dems to say the candidate isnt progressive enough and not vote, so by trying to 'soften' the candidate chosen to appeal to more people youre actually loosing support around your own party
so yeah, i think trump mightve lost if not for that bullshit electability thing people fixate on
ok so electability is basically when you choose candidates based on what you think the most people will vote for, not based on who's better. so in primaries, which are elections between members of a party to decide which person represents that party in the general election, people will often vote for moderate candidates in hope that theyll get more votes, rather than people they believe will do more good.
dems is just short for democrats because i cant be bothered typing it out lol
and what im saying is that because in america you dont have to vote, lots of people wont vote for someone that does somewhat align with their values, because they dont go far enough.
for us, that would be aligning with the greens and therefore refusing to vote labor, because you dont have to vote for anyone else anyways
which is fair, but if the greens arent an option, and people arent voting labor, then liberals or one nation is going to win, which is terrible.
a lot of the focus of the upcoming midterms is voter turnout, ie focusing more on getting people to turn up to vote for you, rather than switching votes from republicans or democrats

Headcannon that Heather Mac really likes rings because of her dad's job, she wears a bunch because he makes really nice ones and gives them to her as gifts on birthdays/Christmas :3 She finds rings really special because of this, and when she sees a really nice one when she's out/at a store, sometimes she'll buy it for Duke or Chandler if she thinks they'll like it!! (Veronica too after she joins.) Duke and Chandler don't really wear rings all that much, but they've accepted that this is a way she shows affection so they accept the rings anyway. They both have special ring jewelry boxes for the rings Mac gives them at this point because she's gotten them a bunch, and they can only wear so many rings at once QwQ (They wear like one a day and have like thirty each, this has been going on for a while.)
Think of it like when a puppy brings you a stick it found, and you like sticks (cus who doesn't) but don't really carry them with you like a puppy would, but it'd be really mean not to accept the gift, so you own a stick now, that's kinda how Duke and Chandler see McNamara's ring gifting, just they understand the rings are also pretty expensive, unlike a stick would be TvT'
Usually, the rings that make her think of the others are ones with red/green gems (for obvious reasons), but sometimes it's just fancy shiny ones that she thinks they would like :3
I will add that they do like the rings, they just don't understand why Mac gives them so many, or why she seems so excited when they like them. Honestly, McNamara doesn't fully know why she sees it as such a special thing either, but she doesn't care much as long as the others like the rings!
I imagine that Mac wears like, a lot of rings for this reason as well, she just really likes rings. She has a special fancy gold one with a ruby in it that she really likes, and a similar one but silver and with an emerald that she also really likes! It is because they remind her of the other Heathers, yes. I imagine after becoming friends with Veronica, she ended up with another fancy ring that's silver with a sapphire in it ^-^
The first one she got for Veronica was like, a super expensive one with a high-quality blue sapphire in it, and Veronica was like, mesmerized, and horrified at the same time, both cus she was flattered by the gift (cus like, pretty ring) and because she was wondering exactly how much money Mac's dad makes that she would just give a fancy ring like this away to a friend just cus she could. Like she tried to reject the ring cus again, really expensive (she felt kinda guilty accepting such a nice thing from someone else), and that made Mac like, noticably sad, so she ended up accepting the ring anyway lmao TwT Mac was happy :3
I imagine that at least once randomly, Veronica has wondered about the ring and went down a little spiral about "wait was she flirting with me???" and then she brushed it off, cus like, 1989, why would another girl be flirting with her??? And I would like to say that this very much is subconscious flirting from Mac! Like how penguins give their mates rocks to make nests, McNamara gives her three friends rings because she likes them romantically, and no one will question the ring giving cus sometimes people just give friends jewelry they think they would like, and her Dad owns a ring business.
