The thing about the Karen Read trial is that when I first heard about it I was like “I hope they acquit her because I think women should be allowed to back over their cop boyfriends.” and then I dug into it and realized she genuinely was framed and she was framed by complete dumbasses and if she wasn’t a middle class, college educated, home-owning white woman, they would have gotten away with it and they’ve probably done this to people who could not afford to defend themselves. The way I suspect this will play out is that there'll be more pressure on local authorities to provide temporary housing but there won't be any additional money from central government to pay for it. Given how vicious Labour have been towards disabled people they'll probably facilitate councils cutting adult social care and/or discretionary council tax discounts for vulnerable people to pay for it. Ironically both of these things will lead to further homelessness.
