Discomfort is not harm. Sometimes a story will make a reader feel uncomfortable on purpose. Sometimes a character needs to be uncomfortable for their arc to progress.
Maomao, who is pathologically avoidant, will NEVER confront an uncomfortable truth in the early parts of her development.
This is why both Shisui and Jinshi are extremely important to her growth-- she tries to ignore signs and clues about both of them until the point she physically can't anymore. Though they're both apologetic for the lies they tell and the stress they put her through, both of these characters are pivotal parts of her arc.
Yes, early on, Jinshi often blows past boundaries and won't leave Maomao alone. It's meant to be uncomfortable. Learning to communicate is part of the story. Simple as.
"oh no, a frog came and left me with something he shouldn't have, whatever could I possibly take to prevent a pregnancy?"

I don't need AI to write. I can create fake scenarios in my head perfectly fine myself.

the idea that a sex scene in fiction is fundamentally useless/simply for audience titillation UNLESS theyâre fucking infodumping exposition while they bone or something is so funny and myopic to me. like, you really genuinely believe for real that there is NOTHING to be gained about your understanding of a story or characters simply from how they approach and engage in sex? really for real?
i'm not convinced that art only has something to offer us when we personally want to participate in the activities being depicted
I donât take people who insult published books they donât like by saying âit reads like fanfictionâ seriously, because these people obviously donât know fanfiction doesnât automatically mean âbad qualityâ, fanfiction doesnât automatically mean âlesser than published original novelsâ.
some fanfic writers put as much time, effort and research into their fics as writers who write original works do their books, if not more. (not saying every fanfic writer has to do their research, obviously, because fanfic is a hobby, not a job. but some fanfic writers do insane amounts of research on what theyâre writing about, I believe some fic writers put more effort into their fics than writers who write original stories do their books.)
fanfic writers arenât all children and teenagers either. while children and teenagers can absolutely write fics and while I think itâs super cool that they write at such a young age, a lot of fanfic writers are adults with jobs and responsibilities.
Iâve personally read fanfics that are way more professionally written than some best sellers out there.
whether a piece of writing is a fanfic or an original work has nothing to do with its quality. if anything, Iâll even argue thatâwhile writers who publish original worksâwrite as their careers, for money, fanfic writers literally write completely out of love and passion. thereâs no money involved, no capitalism involved, no corporation behind their art. they write for free. without gaining anything in return. because theyâre that passionate about the characters and the stories they write about.
obviously I am not saying âwriters who write original novels as their careers arenât passionate about their storiesâ, I am not saying âwriters who write original novels as their careers donât love their storiesâ. what Iâm saying is that for them, they still gain money in return. but fanfic writers literally write purely because they love what theyâre doing. without gaining any money in return. and when people make art out of love and passion, said art tends to be have souls in them.

ppl on ao3 should use the "this work was inspired by" option more. so many fics out there that put links to other fics in the a/n but theres a better option.....
âď¸ use this!!!!!!
important addition i forgot that not everyone might know. similar to how ao3 bookmarks work, you can also link to non-ao3 fanworks using this format. so, for instance, if theres some fanart on tumblr that inspired you to write the fic? you can link that fanart to your fic!
