Grue in the Dark

It starts on Mars - the wave is green and black with smooth, rounded edges, the background a matte/sandy rust orange with some green for the domes and habs.

On to Eden - the surrounding space goes a deeper dark red, the edges of the wave pattern get sharper.

Then, Filament Station - a short run up to a giant seismic event. Sharp and dark and overwhelming. The wave pattern starts getting jagged, the background darker…wetter.

Then COI imprisonment - the wave shrinks to almost nothing. Still sharp edged, but so small. The energy of the wave still advances, cowering, but not gone.

Then the Iron Lung - the wave is sharp all the time, gaining energy, but less coordinated as it's pulled on. At some point it starts to split, becoming jagged, multiple lines. What’s real and what’s not? A static manifests in between the spaces created by overlapping waves. The background grows darker and more viscous and blacker and bleaker. Sharp teeth start to surround the wave, which grows dimmer within the static of whatever is manifesting until - 

BANG - A bright starburst into green and yellow. 

The left (prior, before, past) edge of the seam is a gelatinous black-red and rimmed with broken teeth - like a deep sea creature’s mouth has been torn open where the jaw joins. The right side (now, here, present) is brown - tendrils, creepers - growing out and out and out, framing the new space (future, untethered, free), which is light and bright and so so green.

Yeah, it’s Tau Ceti colors, not Erid colors. But they look so cool next to each other!

I sketched it out first, then a study in gouache, then added to that study, and am now testing acrylic colors and textures for a larger painting.
