so morph turning into jean, absolutely heartbreaking. the worst thing that could ever happen to the both of us. however, i think logan not changing just for morph is not just about his feelings for jean (and extension morph) but about his feelings of being “one” thing.

logan views himself as a monster and by focusing on jean, who is unattainable to him, he gets to feel humanity at a safe distance. he gets the comfort of his friendship with jean and the groundedness of knowing in the back of his mind he’s capable of those human emotions.

it’s not that he doesn’t like morph necessarily. it’s obvious that morph is important to him from how much he tried and held on while morph was under sinister’s control. but morph is attainable and to be with morph is to have to face the challenge of truly “testing his humanity” because if he gets into a relationship and it fails not because of another but just because of who he is; then he truly is a monster. his last link to humanity will vanish in his eyes. it’s not about his feelings for morph but his feelings anout himself. like the shot in thr helicopter scene where morph is looking ahed and logan is looking at them with his claws out only to turn his claws and be staring at his own reflection. he cannot see past his own insecurities to even look at this person who lovrs and cares for him and he loves and cares for.

something about a character that cares so deeply about the people and world around her, that she can't bear to be herself. a teenage girl who woke up one day and her body had changed, her family was falling apart and she was angry.

to wake up one day and your body has changed against your will and now because you are something that you dont recognise despite not changing, not in a way that matters, you can't have your life anymore.

all of a sudden your skin is red and you have horns, your dad can't look at you and your mum won't explain anything. it's not a hidden thing that fig is an exploration of puberty and being a teen girl, finding yourself and hiding in new identities you create for yourself because you need to be someone and you can't be yourself because you don't know who that is.

so what makes fig so interesting is when she does and when she doesn't show up as herself. the walls she puts up even as herself, how close she will allow herself to something.
