idr if I’ve ever explained this on here before and I might explain this more eloquently in the morning but in my YA reboot btw the way Tommy’s time powers manifest is that they have a cost the same way Billy’s had a cost in the og YA run and while Billy’s powers are mental Tommy’s are physical so where Billy’s cost was the effort it took to focus his mind and his magic Tommy’s is a physical affect on his body but bc he doesn’t understand how his powers work he doesn’t understand how that toll works anyway long winded way of saying that whenever Tommy uses his time powers it physically eats away at him and because he doesn’t know how to control his powers they r being used all of the time. which is still a long winded way of saying that Tommy is covered in blood and suffering for like the entire first arc of my YA reboot 🫶

ignore how ineloquent this analysis is I am very tired but there is something very interesting to me about the way Kate and Tommy are both neglected throughout their childhood and how differently that affects them at the point we meet them in Young Avengers and beyond. Like idk there’s something very fascinating about the way that Kate approaches her desire not to be ignored and neglected and comes to the conclusion that the way she evades that result is to be the one in control of the situation, to have the power and therefore be impossible to ignore, because that is what she has seen throughout her own life with her family and she internalized that even if she thinks she didn’t. And that comes out in her desire to lead the Young Avengers and to argue with Eli and his leadership and to insert herself in every situation specifically in a position of power, because then she can’t be hurt. And Tommy approaches that same desire not to be ignored and neglected but instead comes to the conclusion that if he is useful enough, good enough, a good enough tool for other people to wield, then people will have no reason to ignore and neglect him because he will be useful and he thinks that because everyone in his life has always viewed him as an object and a burden and he has internalized the idea that there is a level of usefulness that gains attention and if he can achieve that he will earn the right not to be neglected. And then that comes out in the ways he pushes himself harder than anyone to succeed at being a hero and how he lets the others use him and his powers without offering much input. And what’s really interesting to me about that is that Kate ultimately believes that she HAS earned attention and that she has succeeded, while Tommy has only ever lost attention and further reinforced the idea within himself that his abandonment and neglect is a personal failing. yeah idk if this makes sense but boy am I thinking about it tn
