One of my more obscure pet peeves is how post-viral illnesses, such as long covid, me/cfs, and others, are treated as a joke, even by people who otherwise pride themselves in being super aware and understanding of various physical and/or mental health conditions. It's been known for a long time that many viruses, including common ones like chickenpox and the flu, can cause health complications even after your body clears the initial infection and singling out people who have negative health outcomes after catching a virus for mockery and ridicule is incredibly stupid and immature and betrays a lack of understanding about what chronic illness is and how it affects people.
Experiencing health problems after a viral infection isn't a character flaw, all in your head, or something that makes you inherently broken or evil compared to other people, chronic illness can be affected by many factors but it also discriminates a lot less than you might think and for those of you who aren't chronically ill and/or don't suffer from post-viral illnesses of any kind, there's not always a bulletproof barrier between you and people who do, sometimes the only difference between a healthy person and someone who struggles with weird, complex, and/or poorly understood chronic health conditions is luck.
