During the 2020 Uprising which followed the brutal murder of George Floyd by four MPD officers, the Minnesota National Guard was called in. They slashed locals’ (and journalists’) car tires and drove down residential neighborhood streets, literally tear gassing people watching from their front porches. They did nothing to stop or even inconvenience the violently rioting cops or the Boogaloo Boy arsonists who were lighting Black-owned businesses on fire in North Minneapolis.

The same armed force handing out coffee and doughnuts is currently providing security for the Whipple federal building, so that the occupiers don't have to waste their own people on non-kidnapping duty.

in all seriousness, i do 100% believe that Splinter is the only one who can immediately and accurately tell them apart without any identifying colours or weapons. after all, he did raise them!!

and i headcanon that after awhile, eventually April can too. it's way easier to tell them apart if they've got relaxed/natural facial expressions, especially with Raph and Mikey. (if you closely watch when Raph is maskless, he has SUCH Raph-y expressions lmao. usually pissed off ones.)

if they want to really test April (by keeping their faces completely blank), then she goes by skin tone, because they do have distinctive shades of green. Donnie and Raph are easiest, being the lightest and darkest greens respectively. Leo and Mikey seem trickier (at least to my eyes) because at times, Mikey's green looks similar to Leo, but in some darker scenes, Mikey looks closer to Raph.

if she's really struggling, then she just sits there and waits until Mikey inevitably starts fidgeting 😆 one down, and she can probably figure out the rest from there!

fun fact: it’s TMNT canon that the chemical container that hit Matt Murdock across the face and gave him his Daredevil abilities is the same canister that landed on the baby turtles and mutated them, so…..y’all aren’t far off

Matt’s teacher is Stick. The turtle’s is Splinter.

Matt’s enemy is the Hand. The turtle’s is the Foot Clan.

It was originally a dark, edgy, turtle themed parody of Daredevil.

i want to add that although the word “parody” is most often used in TMNT’s origin story, it wasn’t a parody in the sense of ridicule or comedic satire. Kevin Eastman was actually a huge fan of Daredevil, and his “parody” was in the sense of imitation – TMNT was a homage to Daredevil more than anything. just read the comic’s plot summary! definitely not comedy or satire. it’s quite dark, really.
