kinda funny that steve rogers, a chronically ill son of first gen immigrants, was raised by a single mom in brooklyn into an anti fascist progressive man who stood up everyday against oppressors. and that cap 2 was about an AI surveillance state & how easily the government could be corrupted/compromised. and that cap 3 was about accords that would strip enhanced individuals of their autonomy and turn them into pawns/breathing weapons & a tortured POW who was villainized. and how in infinity war steve rogers had become a world wide fugitive doing what he thought was right even if it wasn’t legal.

one of the funniest bits in the nice guys is that ryan gosling's character cut up all of his clothes to accommodate his cast instead of, you know. wearing shirts/jackets that weren't skin tight. or maybe t shirts

its kind of extra funny when u realize for much of this he's in an alcohol induced haze -- its not til later when he realizes the gravity of the situation bc oh shit he doesn't just think healy is hot / want him biblically, he wants him, endstop. by his side, around his daughter, in his life…. so he decides for the both of them that they're going to have a private detective agency together and puts an ad in the paper so the guy is stuck w him (not like healy was going anywhere, but just in case)

AND he wore a tie that matched healy’s signature jacket the day he told him about their ad in the paper

THEY deserved a happy ending. the foundation of their relationship was “til death do we part”/that they’d always be there for each other. and it would have been so easy to maintain that if they wanted bucky in future projects but not steve. “where’s steve?” bucky rolls his eyes and says “where do you think?” (helping with disaster relief, hunting down hydra cell, doing a shift w daredevil). steve texting sam to put more weight on his left foot when he throws the shield. a five second phone call where steve tells him he better be back in time for the dodgers game. a photo of them laughing at the grand canyon. instead.

steve wouldn’t have stopped fighting until his heart stopped, but that didn’t mean the battlefield couldn’t have changed. perhaps going from fighting aliens, to the streets. social activism. community service. etc. his ending could never end with “rest” like the writers tried to hard to defend why he wouldn’t stop hydra or save bucky in the past. but it could have ended w him being content in the present with his friends

the concept of steve thinking of bucky as this charming ladies man meanwhile in bucky’s mind, he had already designated a certain stubborn blond as the person he was going steady w. who he brought to the movies, to art classes, who he lived with & was satisfied by the mere presence of. who he only had eyes for, even if steve thought no one would ever be looking at him

steve, thinking about bucky: I’m just waiting for the right partner (to notice me)
