i should've locked in when i was thirteen
i was training a young person at work, and she referred to sexual assault as "SA" out loud, and i immediately was like, "no, it's sexual assault, call it what it is," bc idgaf if the algorithm overlords have taught y'all that you should fear direct language, how tf do any of you expect to ever address real issues with any amount of seriousness if you can't even say the words? imagine an advocate looking a sexual assault survivor in the eyes and asking "did he grape you?" it's absolutely fucking absurd, but these young interns and new hires are coming into an environment where we deal with survivors of all different kinds of abuse, and they're coming with the mindset that the words are as bad as the actions, and that makes them shitty at the job and look juvenile af
i HATE self-censorship for a lot of reasons, but being in crisis work makes it even more frustrating. who are you censoring for? like i am being so fr, WHO are you censoring for? have you even thought it through? people who have been raped know that they have been raped. if someone attempts suicide or is grieving someone who did, saying "sewer slide" isn't going to protect them from any of the feelings. a murder victim's family isn't going to feel better bc you said "unalived" instead of murdered. if anything, it's just extremely invalidating and othering. it's saying "what happened to you is so bad that i won't even say the word," which is NOT trauma-informed care. you are not protecting survivors/victims when you self-censor. the ONLY things you protect when you self-censor are the puritanical ideologies that are being encouraged by rich fascists who want your money and obedience
say the fucking words, guys. just say the goddamn words before i go insane!!!
Reasons to use "SA" online:
Algorithm hides posts that use the "S word."
Microblogging site where posts have a character limit
Writing an article that mentions it over a dozen times; you spell it out the first time and use the acronym after that
Conversation by text (IM, whatsapp, discord, whatever) and it's faster not to type out the full words
The app you're in censors the actual words and replaces them with something else (like Steam's **** for what it thinks is profanity)
Reasons to use "SA" in person:
when i was a kid i was so mad all the time bc i thought someday i'd have to be somebody's wife i didn't know it was optional. is everybody reminding the young girls in their lives that it's optional.
AND SO IS BEING SOMEBODY'S MOTHERâźď¸
it is about being a woman. hope that helps!
reading comprehension questions for the notes:
is wanting to be a wife and mother a requirement for being a woman?
why might OP be annoyed with replies assuming that this post is about being aroace or transmasc if a woman doesnât want to be a wife or mother?
are there reasons unrelated to sexuality and romantic interest that might make a woman not want to be a wife or mother?
are there reasons unrelated to gender identity and expression that might make a woman not want to be a wife and mother?
core concept: what is gender essentialism?
is it gender essentialism to imply that all women inherently want to be wives and mothers? could this be what OP is critiquing?
look at the notes OP responds to. is it gender essentialism to imply that being a wife and mother is so affixed to womanhood that to not want to be those things means youâre incapable of sexual/romantic feelings, or not a woman?
what trait are you perpetuating when you assume that women who do not want to be wives and mothers must be aroace or trans? is it gender essentialism?
Trying to keep myself from going "oh my god you people don' t know anything" by reminding myself that there are surely things that you don't just know, but consider such common knowledge that it wouldn't occur to you at all to consider that I wouldn't know that. I'd ask y'all to share some, but how the fuck would you know what is and isn't common knowledge to anyone else.
once in a theatre class i was reading a midsummer nights dream with another student and towards the end of the play thereâs like a eunuch? she asked what that was and i had a moment of complete bafflement that someone would have never encountered the term before. then i remembered that the sheer amount of fantasy books id consumed in my life was probably what gave me that knowledge
In high school, a couple of my friends (female) were talking with a guy and the topic of eunuchs came up. Turned out he didn't know the word, so my friends patiently explain it to his growing horror. His response?
"But they grow back, right? Right?"

Youâre completely correct. Out of my way, able-bodied losers. Fuck you.
It's called an EZRide+ and you can learn where to find them here. They're about $1100 US as of June 2026, but you might need to buy additional parts to attach them to your chair, depending on the style of chair.
Remember to put links to products like this, they're usually hard to find and a lot of people need to know they exist.

There are few more beloved New Yorkers right now than Jalen Brunson, the Knicks point guard and team captain, who led the beloved New York basketball team to the NBA finals for the first time in 27 years.
And who has been there with Brunson since (almost) day one? His wife, Dr. Alison Marks Brunson, a Jewish physical therapist and the mother of their very adorable young daughter, Jordyn.
No matter how the Knicks fair in the finals, their love story is just so winning. Hereâs what you need to know about this adorable couple:
Jalen and Alison started dating in high school
The couple attended Illinoisâs Adlai E. Stevenson High School in the suburbs of Chicago. They met when Jalen was 15 and Alison was 16, and started dating while in high school, going to homecoming and senior prom together.
The couple stayed together despite going long-distance while attending college, with Alison staying in Illinois for undergrad and Jalen attending Villanova University in Pennsylvania.
Seven years later, in their old high school gymnasium, Jalen would get down on one knee under a floral arc and propose to Alison. She said yes, of course.
Alison has always been supportive of Jadenâs basketball career.
âSheâs sacrificed a lot, without really knowing whatâs in it for her. She was committed. She wanted the best for myself, and sometimes it felt like she wanted the best for me before her⌠sheâs pushed me to be better,â Jalen said in their wedding video.
They had a ketubah and danced the hora at their 2023 wedding
The couple got married at the Ritz-Carlton in Chicago in July of 2023. Alison was walked down the aisle by her mother, and both her two sisters and Jalenâs sister spoke of how happy they were to get a new sibling officially added to their families. As seen in their wedding video below, the couple signed a ketubah, the traditional Jewish marriage contract, got married under a floral chuppah and danced the hora at the reception. It was a very moving night, a culmination of a decade of love.
Alison lost her Jewish dad in 2010 to pancreatic cancer â a cause thatâs become important to her
Alisonâs dad, James Marks, died in 2010, at age 49, leaving behind his wife of 23 years, his loving three daughters and his parents. He is buried at Shalom Memorial Park in Arlington Heights, Illinois. Last year, Alison posted a picture of her and her daughter visiting his grave.
âIn 2010, my father lost his battle with pancreatic cancer. Ten years later, I officially completed a marathon with Project Purple, an organization that provides critical research funding and financial support to families â something my own family benefited from in 2010,â Marks shared back in 2020. Since then, sheâs run many races for Project Purple, raising money for pancreatic cancer research and boosting awareness for the cause on social media.
Their daughter, Jordyn, was born in the summer of 2024, and is named after Alisonâs father
A video thatâs been going viral this past week shows Jalen and Alisonâs daughter, Jordyn James Brunson, adorably interrupting her fatherâs response to a question at a press conference by screaming âdada!â The toddler can often be seen at Madison Square Garden, next to famous fans like Ben Stiller and on her fatherâs shoulders post-game.
Jordyn was born on July 31, 2024, mere days after the coupleâs third wedding anniversary. As per Ashkenazi Jewish naming tradition, she was given the middle name James, in honor of her late grandfather. How moving is that?
Alison is super supportive of her husbandâs amazing career â and has an incredible one of her own
Back in 2021, Alison graduated as a doctor of physical therapy from Northwesternâs Feinberg School of Medicine. She runs her own boutique physiotherapy business out of Westchester, New York. We love a successful power couple!
