was reminiscing about my time at a boarding school and it made me realise the marauders would absolutely thrive there. they’d be at an all-boys school, so every joint social with the girls’ school would feel like the event of the century, mostly because they’d spent years seeing girls so rarely they genuinely treated them like some mythical species. they’d live in a permanent cycle of getting gated (boarding school punishment where you’re confined to the house), almost always on the highest level, which meant signing into the common room every hour on the hour while everyone else watched them traipsing across the quad from their windows for the tenth time that day. by the end of the first week they’d have found some forgotten attic tucked behind a panel or above the dorms where all the vodka disappeared to, every window lock would have mysteriously broken, there’d be a sock taped over the smoke alarm, and they’d be balancing half their body out of a freezing sash window to smoke because it “technically wasn’t inside”. sirius would inevitably get stuck trying to squeeze out of one of those tiny windows during a midnight escape into town and go from laughing to “lads, i’m serious, i actually can’t breathe, my rib cage is stuck.” they’d miss curfew so often the duty staff would stop sounding surprised, fail every breathalyser on the way back through the gates, earn even more gating, and somehow still think sneaking out through ivy-covered courtyards, empty cloisters and echoing corridors at two in the morning was worth every second of it
