Oh one thing I will say is if you do go watch The Odyssey and you're sensitive to flashing lights in any way, step out for about 5 minutes after the part with the cows. I'm not particularly sensitive to flashing lights normally and even I was finding it super overwhelming. Just as a heads up.
I saw the Odyssey tonight and I enjoyed it. Telemachus' and Penelope's sections were my favorite moments, I think Hathaway's portrayal of Penelope's rage was amazing. She was hurting and vengeful and still loyal as if to a wound and when she said she would have the suitors burn, it was captivating and I loved that Telemachus echoed the line to Antinius. Another moment I appreciated was Helen asking Telemachus to tell Penelope that she was sorry for what was done and lost in her name. I appreciate too that it was made clear by both Helen and others stating directly that this war was for Agamemnon's purposes and Helen was a convenient rallying cry only, so it was not Helen asking forgiveness for something she had done but to give and share sorrows for what others had done under the banner of her stolen name. I kind of appreciated Poseidon and Zeus not having forms and being present through their elements because it allowed the nature is the horror when you are at sea element to peer through clearly. For Odysseus, I also liked that he was just a conflicted man who could be clever and could be rash and that yes, he ended the movie on a hopeful note for the world at large, but that there wasn't particularly a redemption or real homecoming for him. The 7 years with Calypso, to me, were him coming to terms with the damage he wrought and what he had done and reconciling it with who he was and his goals and what he was putting into the world and by ending leaving society and leadership to make things right with his people, he is entrusting that damaged world to better hands and fixing what was broken as best he can and I don't think that's wrong. One of the storylines I struggle with is the version where main character man is doing a whole lot of bad under the auspices of fighting for what they believe in, but then they realize their opponents are people too and his side is doing more damage than anything, so begins his journey of angst and vague repentance and at the conclusion, the man joins his former enemy to fight the actual good fight better than any of his former enemies had ever fought it before, so good that the fight is irrevocably improved and there is hope again because this man finally found the correct way to fight for what he believes in and now the world can be saved and we end on a hopeful sunrise. Maddening. (Can you tell that I have Thoughts about Cameron's Avatar?) So, I do appreciate that not being the case. Lastly, the shoving of what became Sinon's lot down Antinius' throat was a delight, purely for vindictive and vengeful purposes and he fucking deserved it. Lastly in actuality, I loved that Agamemnon is simultaneously omnipresent and completely absent. It kind of felt like a similar effect to have in Obsession, Bear's perspectives on Nikki were almost entirely outline based because he didn't know her or care to so she was just an outline to him and the audience by extension. His armor, specifically his helmet, was made into the entirety of who he was, he even wore it during his daughters sacrifice, so we only really see him in profile and the helmet reminded me of what Hades' helm of darkness is sometimes described as, so it had the effect of his pride heralding death, but also that being the only memory of him. He can't really haunt the narrative, because he was hollow. But his armor does. And that we only see his armor absent once with Clytemnestra as he is laying bare, because she is not afraid and she knows who she hates and it is her husband, of course she knows him, the nakedness is partially the lack of physical defense, privacy, and practicality, sure, but is also a very real knowledge of who he is. He isn't a warrior, he isn't a king or a leader or anything more than her husband who murdered their daughter and he cannot hide that from her. Ugh, Clytemnestra, my god.
ok so apparently in celebration of the 250th anniversary of paul revere’s ride this was projected onto a church in boston??
“A church”?? That’s Old North Church! That’s THE church where the lanterns were lit.

Plot armor but it’s Bruce Wayne’s wealth.
Bruce is one of the richest men in the world. Bruce does not want to be one of the richest men in world.
He starts by implementing high starting salaries and full health care coverages for all levels at Wayne Enterprises. This in vastly improves retention and worker productivity, and WE profits soar. He increases PTO, grants generous parental and family leave, funds diversity initiatives, boosts salaries again. WE is ranked “#1 worker-friendly corporation”, and productively and profits soar again.
Ok, so clearly investing his workers isn’t the profit-destroying doomed strategy his peers claim it is. Bruce is going to keep doing it obviously (his next initiative is to ensure all part-time and contractors get the same benefits and pay as full time employees), but he is going to have to find a different way to dump his money.
But you know what else is supposed to be prohibitively expensive? Green and ethical initiatives. Yes, Bruce can do that. He creates and fund a 10 year plan to covert all Wayne facilities to renewable energy. He overhauls all factories to employ the best environmentally friendly practices and technologies. He cuts contracts with all suppliers that engage in unethical employment practices and pays for other to upgrade their equipment and facilities to meet WE’s new environmental and safety requirements. He spares no expense.
Yeah, Wayne Enterprises is so successful that they spin off an entire new business arm focused on helping other companies convert to environmentally friendly and safe practices like they did in an efficient, cost effective, successful way.
Admittedly, investing in his own company was probably never going to be the best way to get rid of his wealth. He slashes his own salary to a pittance (god knows he has more money than he could possibly know what to do with already) and keeps investing the profits back into the workers, and WE keeps responding with nearly terrifying success.
So WE is a no-go, and Bruce now has numerous angry billionaires on his back because they’ve been claiming all these measures he’s implementing are too expensive to justify for decades and they’re finding it a little hard to keep the wool over everyone’s eyes when Idiot Softheart Bruice Wayne has money spilling out his ears. BUT Bruce can invest in Gotham. That’ll go well, right?
Gotham’s infrastructure is the OSHA anti-Christ and even what little is up to code is constantly getting destroyed by Rogue attacks. Surely THAT will be a money sink.
Except the only non-corrupt employer in Gotham city is….Wayne Enterprises. Or contractors or companies or businesses that somehow, in some way or other, feed back to WE. Paying wholesale for improvement to Gotham’s infrastructure somehow increases WE’s profits.
Bruce funds a full system overhaul of Gotham hospital (it’s not his fault the best administrative system software is WE—he looked), he sets up foundations and trusts for shelters, free clinics, schools, meal plans, day care, literally anything he can think of.
Gotham continues to be a shithole. Bruce Wayne continues to be richer than god against his Batman-ingrained will.
Oh, and Bruice Wayne is no longer viewed as solely a spoiled idiot nepo baby. The public responds by investing in WE and anything else he owns, and stop doing this, please.
Bruce sets up a foundation to pay the college tuition of every Gotham citizen who applies. It’s so successful that within 10 years, donations from previous recipients more than cover incoming need, and Bruce can’t even donate to his own charity.
But by this time, Bruce has children. If he can’t get rid of his wealth, he can at least distribute it, right?
Except Dick Grayson absolutely refuses to receive any of his money, won’t touch his trust fund, and in fact has never been so successful and creative with his hacking skills as he is in dumping the money BACK on Bruce. Jason died and won’t legally resurrect to take his trust fund. Tim has his own inherited wealth, refuses to inherit more, and in fact happily joins forces with Dick to hack accounts and return whatever money he tries to give them. Cass has no concept of monetary wealth and gives him panicked, overwhelmed eyes whenever he so much as implies offering more than $100 at once. Damian is showing worrying signs of following in his precious Richard’s footsteps, and Babs barely allows him to fund tech for the Clocktower. At least Steph lets him pay for her tuition and uses his credit card to buy unholy amounts of Batburger. But that is hardly a drop in the ocean of Bruce’s wealth. And she won’t even accept a trust fund of only one million.
Jason wins for best-worst child though because he currently runs a very lucrative crime empire. And although he pours the vast, vast majority of his profits back into Crime Alley, whenever he gets a little too rich for his tastes, he dumps the money on Bruce. At this point, Bruce almost wishes he was being used for money laundering because then he’s at least not have the money.
So children—generous, kindhearted, stubborn till the day they die the little shits, children—are also out.
Bruce was funding the Justice League. But then finances were leaked, and the public had an outcry over one man holding so much sway over the world’s superheroes (nevermind Bruce is one of those superheroes—but the public can’t know that). So Bruce had to do some fancy PR trickery, concede to a policy of not receiving a majority of funds from one individual, and significantly decrease his contributions because no one could match his donations.
At his wits end, Bruce hires a team of accounts to search through every crinkle and crevice of tax law to find what loopholes or shortcuts can be avoided in order to pay his damn taxes to the MAX.
The results are horrifying. According to the strictest definition of the law, the government owes him money.
Bruce burns the report, buries any evidence as deeply as he can, and organizes a foundation to lobby for FAR higher taxation of the upper class.
All this, and Wayne Enterprises is happily chugging along, churning profit, expanding into new markets, growing in the stock market, and trying to force the credit and proportionate compensation on their increasingly horrified CEO.
Bruce Wayne is one of the richest men in the world. Bruce Wayne will never not be one of the richest men in the world.
But by GOD is he trying.
He buys a couple of expensive megacorps (Walmart, Amazon) because surely spending several billion at once will cause a dip, right? And dismantling their monopolies and funding back pay and benefits and lawsuit payouts and everything will offset new profits, right? Right?

i have a secret third opinion about self dx discourse which is “why are you guys treating the DSM like it’s the fucking bible”
the amount of leftists who uncritically support the DSM-5—wielding it online in battles against random individuals who might be “faking” a disorder—boggles my fucking mind. you guys realize that the DSM-5 isn’t the only diagnostic manual on the planet, right? you realize that we place it at the top of the global hierarchy because it’s american, right? has it occurred to you that the APA shouldn’t have so much authority over what counts as a “real” mental illness? has it occurred to you that perhaps there are other diagnostic manuals? in fact, there are dimensional models that don’t rely on sorting individuals into “disorder/no disorder” boxes in the first place. food for thought, lmao

So I do 3D modeling and printing as a hobby, and a few weeks ago I designed wheel guards meant to prevent office chairs from running over cables and clothes... or your pet's tail.
I got the idea from cowcatchers old locomotives used to have.
Anyways, yesterday I uploaded the model to Thingiverse, and just hours after uploading it, the Community Relationship Manager of the whole website left a comment suggesting I enter the model into a competition that's currently being held on the site.
So I did... and now it's in third place not even a day later. First place is $500, but the competition still has a month to go.
Then the Community Manager contacted me again, telling me they want to feature my model in an upcoming design promotion.
Just, what is happening? I mostly made this thing for myself in, like, an hour, and now it's suddenly super popular? This is all a little bit overwhelming 😵💫
Other models I worked on for weeks didn't get nearly as popular. I swear, it's impossible to predict what people will like.
Anyways, if you want to print the wheel guards yourself, you can get the model here or here.
I also made a quiet version you can stick furniture felt pads on.
People love simple, extremely practical things. I hope you win!
