Just remember. There is no such thing as a fake geek girl. There are only fake geek boys. Science fiction was invented by a woman.
Specifically a teenage girl. You know, someone who would be a part of the demographic that some of these boys are violently rejecting.
Isaac Asimov.
yo mary shelley wrote frankenstein in 1818 and isaac asimov was born in 1920 so you kinda get my point
If you want to push it back even further Margaret Cavendish, the duchess of Newcastle (1623-1673) wrote The Blazing World in 1666, about a young woman who discovers a Utopian world that can only be accessed via the North Pole - oft credited as one of the first scifi novels
Women have always been at the forefront of literature, the first novel (what we would consider a novel in modern terms)Â was written by a woman (Lady Muraskaiâs the Tale of Genji in the early 1000s) take your snide âIsaac Asimovâ reblogs and stick it
even in terms of male scifi authors, asimov was predated by Jules Verne, HG Wells, George Orwell, you could have even cited Poe or Jonathan Swift has a case but Asimov?
PbbBFFTTBBBTBTTBBTBTTT so desperate to discredit the idea of Mary Shelly as the mother of modern science fiction you didnât even do a frickin google search For Shame
And if you want to go back even further, the first named, identified author in history was Enheduanna of Akkad, a Sumerian high priestess.

*Bonus: Fun Fact
Modern Russian literary language (Standard Russian) is also called кОдиŃиŃиŃОваннŃĐš ŃŃŃŃкиК ŃСŃк (âcodified Russian languageâ), and officially abbreviated as ĐĐ ĐŻ. Just sayinâ.
Goethe-Institut did a web series a while back aimed at new arrivals in Germany and I like how it make sure to teach people that a lot of Germans are rude af
like, this is a genuine scene from an ep:
#Ok but for a second there I was likeâ#this is a bit exaggeratedâ#itâs not that rude to say hi to strangersâ#just a bit weirdâ#but then I realisedâ#the rude person is probably meant to be the one ignoring the âhi'â
Well sheâs obviously doing it wrong. You got to mumble âGuten Tagâ in no oneâs actual direction upon entering the waiting room. Then you donât speak a word (you gotta grab a magazine though, because if youâre on your mobile people will find that asocial) until the doctor calls you and when you get back to retrieve your jacket you mumble âAuf Wiedersehenâ.
If you say âGuten Tagâ while sitting down itâs either because youâre passive-aggressively shaming the person youâre talking to for not saying âGuten Tagâ (which is of course highly respectable, but weird if they did say it) or worse:Â
Youâre trying to make small-talk.
See also: when entering a crowded bus, tram, subway or train, you do not say a single word. You look for an empty bench. If there are none, you will have a neighbour. You stop at an empty spot and mumble something like âtschulli-ngâ or âs-nch-frei?â to the person occupying the other spot on the bench. You nod in an upward direction. They reply a mumbled âtĂźrlichâ while vaguely looking somewhere near your face and moving their bag if neccessary. You sit down, nod gratefully, and keep your mouth shut for the rest of the ride. Neither of you wanted this. You wanted freedom. Donât bother each other.
If an entire bench in front of you becomes available at the next stop, though, it is not the polite thing to free your neighbour and yourself up. No, you stay right where you are. The silent stranger next to you is your silent stranger now.
Welcome to Germany. This is how we express love.
None of these people are joking.
And if youâre the one sitting at the window and you want to get off at the next stop, you begin to loudly rustle with your bag whatever, because that way you can signal the other person that you need them to get up without having to speak to them.
Clearly, Finns and German were separated at birth because we Finns are exactly the same.
Swedes as well. Talking? Weird shit, tried it once, do not recommend.
Germans, Finns and Swedes are the long lost siblings of the Czech Republic. Same rules apply here

Self-Study Guide: How To (Actually) Study Grammar
Note: Hello, language learners! Just want to first apologize for a very late post! A lot has been going on since my move from China and it has been a doozy. Excuses aside, here is a fresh of the press post for your language learning needs.
Grammar Is a Nightmare
Grammar is always a nightmare for language learners. It doesnât matter what language youâre learning, grammar is simply not always a basket of roses. Itâs actually never a bucket of roses and the sooner you accept that, the better whole language learning process will go. Why is grammar such a nightmare for those of you who are bright eyed bushy tailed and new to language learning? Hereâs a list:
Because there are ârulesâ to grammar, but there are ALWAYS exceptions.
Sometimes the grammar itself makes no sense at all when explained in your native language
You often forget them right after
They may have specific usages that you must know of in order to avoid sounding like a plebe
There are a million and get more and more complex as you progress
What Is Grammar
Stop your scrolling! This is important!! Iâm not going to explain the complex intricacies of the concept of grammar or even try to simplify it because if you speak a language, any language, you know what grammar is. HOWEVER, it is important to remember as you study grammar is that it is the written expression of how a group of people understand and synthesize the world around them. It is also how you learn more about the culture of the language you are learning. So take care to learn grammar thoroughly.
So how do you get through this total nightmare with your sanity intact? Fortunately for you, Iâve been studying languages for ten years and can tell you EXACTLY what to do. So before you resume or begin studying, here is my recommended step by step guide to studying grammar.

For everyoneâs information:
The plan for the 17th, when the adult content ban comes in, is to protest.
To do that, we are making as much noise either side of the 17th as possible, and using the site as normal.
On the 17th, dead silence.
People are saying log off but what they really mean is donât open the site or the app.
But, on the 17th make as much noise as possible on every other platform. Tweet about it and post on facebook and instagram and everywhere else.
What this does is causes a massive dip in ad revenue for one single day. That does not make staff think âoh everyoneâs gone letâs shut down.â What it actually makes them think is âoh shit people arenât happy and if people donât keep using our site weâre out of money and out of jobs.â
A boycott reminds a company that the users (consumers) have the power to make their site (business) worthless with one single coordinated decision.
If you want to join in, hereâs what to do:
Do:
Close all open instances of the app and site on all your devices before the 17th
Make posts before and after the 17th on tumblr and other platforms, talking about why this ban is bad
Make posts on other sites during the 17th. Flood the official tumblr staff twitter and facebook with your anger and your opinion
Come back on the 18th and check in
Donât:
Delete the app from your phone (this doesnât affect their revenue and since itâs off the store at the moment itâll be hard to get back)
Delete your account. I mean you can if you want to, but if you keep your account and donât use it youâre saying to staff that thereâs still time to save it. If you delete itâs hard work to come back.
Open the app or website (including specific blogs)
Make any posts (turn down/off your queue and make sure nothing is scheduled)
Go quiet elsewhere. Make it clear that this is just about tumblr, not a mass move away from all social media.
Remember: the execs donât care about anything but money. Shutting down the site means thereâs $0 further income from it. Thatâs their last possible course of action. If we make it clear weâre not happy, theyâll have to do something or we can do more and more until it becomes too expensive.
Protests take commitment. Theyâre a defiant action against a business that is doing something wrong. They will try to scare you into not participating, because theyâre scared. We hold all the power here, sometimes the execs just need to be reminded of that.
I have one question though: What timezone for the 17th?
Iâm guessing American West Coast time which for Europeans means also part of the 18th!! Or do we follow this protest each according to our timezone?
