World Heritage Post
Modern day adaptation of the “all young ladies keep a journal” scene from Northanger Abbey where Tilney clocks Catherine as a Tumblrina after only ten minutes of speaking with her (there’s no other way she could’ve picked up those speech patterns) (he knows this because he’s been on Tumblr since Dashcon)
Catherine’s questions about John Thorpe’s taste in books are utterly dismissed and it instead becomes clear that he’s something of a film bro. He then proceeds to go on a fifteen minute rant about the genius of The Wolf of Wall Street and seems on the verge of showing Catherine his Letterboxd until Tilney intervenes by loudly proclaiming that his favorite Scorsese movie is his obscure 1973 mafia film Goncharov

Fantasy worlds always have large, beautiful moons, sometimes a few of them in pretty colours. We should have more fantasy worlds that have like 112 piece of crap tiny lumpy moons that are horrible and pointless.
They have a whole astrology system based on their awful moons and eclipses are bullshit because it just looks like a piece of gravel being tossed past a light.
112 peice of crap moons
Rings. That’s what rings are. All the planets with a fuck ton of shitass moons have rings. You’re just making the night sky cooler.
I bet they look like shit from underneath
There's some physicist from Idaho that did a series of what different locations on Earth would look like if Earth had Saturn's rings. Article was saying that depending on your latitude, the rings could appear as a straight line overhead, or a sort of rainbow arch higher up. Fun idea to toy with.
bingewatching will never come close to bingereading. there is nothing like blocking out the entire Earth for ten hours to read a book in one sitting no food no water no shower no bra and emerging at the end with no idea what time it is or where you are, a dried-up prune that's sensitive to light and loud noises because you've been in your room in the dark reading by the glow of a single LED. it's like coming back after a three-month vacation in another dimension and now you have to go downstairs and make dinner. absolutely transcendental

it should be illegal for things in drawers to accumulate dust. you were IN the drawer WHAT is your problem
It isn't enough that cavaliers in the Locked Tomb series must train to be excellent knights and defenders of their necromancers, but they don't even find rest in death.
Should one be consumed by their necro, they're just trapped in a cycle of defending and protecting (without voice or agency) that could last for thousands of years.
Neither Naberius Tern nor Gideon Nav had any idea what Lyctorhood would do to them. Gideon, in particular, resented being an indentured servant to the Ninth and sought escape. In falling on a fence, she had no idea she was about to indenture herself forever, with no escape (her unacknowledged love for Harrow made any qualms moot). Tern, on the other hand, had no idea his death would not be the "end." and we see him struggling against Ianthe in their shared body. He's not happy.
That Gideon was given a way out (an act of love she had no idea about), only to be forced back into service by her father, is a shattering psychic schism, while Tern and Ianthe are basically becoming a new person that Ianthe refuses to acknowledge.
Did any of the Lyctors who successfully absorbed their cavaliers realize they were no longer themselves after a time?
As a cavalier who escaped the process, how much of Gideon's soul *was* absorbed by Harrow and how will this affect Harrow in the future?
Further, in witnessing Camilla/Palamedes "suicide," does Gideon think of Harrow's parents and what *their* suicide made of their daughter? Paul is, for some intents and purposes, the child of Camilla and Palamedes and still an unknown quantity. They did it, much like Gideon falling on a fence, to save lives (getting everyone through the River required a Lyctor). Harrow did not call Gideon's sacrifice a suicide; I doubt she would have seen Cam/Pal's sacrifice as one, either.
But what about Gideon who has always sought escape and revered a violent death as her likely end (thanks to those Cohort comics)?
So many people had knowledge she didn't; an understanding of the world that she didn't; Gideon had no time to really learn much of anything and for all her struggles to be *herself* that person never got to emerge, fully. Like Tern, she was simply expected to obey and do her job.
If we could separate Tern for a moment, what would he say about it all?
There's a built-in cultural cruelty some of these folks are only now realizing or acknowledging, while someone like Wake has been fighting it all of her life. No wonder Augustine and Mercy joined her, ultimately. The grief and horror of understanding what they had helped build was a devastation that they couldn't ignore.
The lessons of this story, though, means John's reckoning cannot resemble John in any way.
What will justice look like?
It can't be the violence John and Wake have produced; maybe it will look more like the ease of forgiveness Gideon once offered Harrow.
My wife pointed out to me the other day that apparently most people were literally only taught how to say Sorry and not how to Apologize or even that they are different things so here.
If all you ever do is step 1, not only did you not apologize, but people will rightfully stop believing you and start getting pissed or hurt.
god I'm such a slut for Chinese eggplant in garlic sauce *decides it’s inaccurate to refer to myself as a slut in light of my minimal sexual activity* if The Enemy discovered my ardor for Chinese eggplant in garlic sauce, they would gain a significant strategic advantage
college aus are kinda crazy. they would not be doing all that. There's midterms
