When I watched all the xmen movies with my friend for the first time he was my favorite. I love his introduction episode in the 90s cartoon too <3

The original line is delivered by the last human: it's Ted's sad internal lament that he's become unable to even express his pain, which is its own form of psychological horror. It's AM's final, cruelest joke. But here the line is instead delivered BY the AI. Caine did his best to please the humans. But the humans just WON'T stop complaining! And that's torture for him. So rather than listening to them, which would take willingness to reflect and improve, he just takes their mouths away, so they can't complain anymore.

Rather than being a cruelty inflicted on the humans, it reframes the whole line as a way for the AI to protect its ego. It's Caine going "la la la I can't hear you." It's not a clever form of torture, it's just pathetic and childish. Caine's ego is his biggest flaw. And it's what gets him killed.

Like, there are so many bits and details that I love and cherish about this, but also it plays out like a kinda shitty fanfiction that was abandoned by the original author partway through (it was canceled after 10 episodes due to lack of viewers I believe).

I love Hyde's character and his relationship with both his younger brother, and with his love interest Bella, and in general Tom Bateman does a wonderful performance and really shows off the differences between Robert and Hyde. But then you have details I absolutely hate like (Spoilers) Robert's long lost evil twin sister who was raised by the villains. A plotline I genuinely hate to no end.

Like, the show is so dumb and hokey, but I can't help but love large parts of it. Sure, it completely misses the point of the original story, but so does pretty much every adaptation so I've stopped caring about that. It knows not to take itself too seriously, but it can play it straight when it needs to.

And of course there's the ending, or lack there of. No answers, nothing to work with. It just... stops. That's the worst part. If it had been given a shitty ending, maybe I could have moved on, but no, it got left on an unresolved cliffhanger.

This show is both the worst, and also one of my favorite shows in existence. I think more people should watch it but I also think it sucks. It is my white whale that I can never move on from.

I love the moments between Jekyll and Hyde, not the full transformations, but the moments where Hyde sort of bleeds out of Jekyll.

The way his posture and mannerisms subtly and slowly shift, and the way he slowly works more of a growl into his voice. It so perfect and well crafted.
