Boycotts are supposed to be uncomfortable they are supposed to not be easy, if you are boycotting a whole company it means that inoccent people within it will suffer the consequences your local comic shop will suffer the consequences, but who HAS to stop those consequences by relenting ITS THE COMPANY YOU ARE BOYCOTTING not the people participating from the boycott omg??? yes you were supposed to also Boycott Zatanna and New titans and that awful pride special and it was dc who was supposed to GIVE UP THEIR AWFUL RACIST WAYS.
black comic readers will say "buying black lead comics or black characters comics from dc doesn't stop them from getting axed and it's been literally 1200 days since dc has had a black ongoing so we're calling for a boycott to put pressure on dc by not buying comics and instead directly supporting black creatives" and here come the dumbest white people on the earth going "but dc is releasing pride month comics, do you hate queer people? but dc has female creators releasing comics, do you hate women? this boycott is so disorganised. i can't believe you hate queer people"
the boycott is declared over by the official head of DcSoWhite and this was included in their statement. It lasted 3 days. I respect their decision but the fact remains that people were arguing so much about non black people being excluded from a Black centric boycott to the point where they needed to apologise for it infuriates me

That was never out intention, and we apologize for that impact. We heard those concerns, and they played a major role in our decision to reevaluate the boycott." /End ID.]

As of today, it's been 1203 days (approximately 3 years and 3 1/2 months) since DC published an ongoing comic book centering a Black character in its mainline continuity. I'm using this poll to bring awareness to some Black characters who I think could use some love. Masc edition.
sorry if this is a dumb question, im completely in support of dc blackout but im just confused by the fact that it says that its been 1200 days since a black character has lead a comic when jo is the main character of absolute green lantern right now? plus didnt black lightning and mr terrific both have comics fairly recently? i know at least for abs gl its not a mainline comic, but in fairness dc is pushing the absolute line as much as the mainline right now. not trying to disagree or say that we shouldnt boycott, i just dont understand
it has been over 1200 days since DC released a mainline Black-led ongoing. the operative word here is ongoing – DC has a tendency to restrict their Black-led stories to limited series of no more than six issues. Black Lightning and Mr Terrific: Year One were both limited series — Black Lightning only got five issues total, while Mr Terrific got six. if we compare this to other 2025 releases with white or nonblack leads, Aquaman, Batman, Superman Unlimited, Supergirl, and Batgirl are all still ongoing. and if you look at DC's 2026 releases, the only Black-led release thus far is Batman/Static Beyond, which is both elseworlds and a limited series. notice a pattern here?
as for Absolute Green Lantern, it exists outside of DC's main continuity & though Jo is the primary protagonist, i wouldn't personally consider it a solo. in fact, if we restrict our criteria to Black-led solos only, there have been none this year, not even a limited series. Black DC fans deserve an ongoing that has a real impact on the DC universe – we deserve commitment, not just a limited series every so often that DC can point to and claim they aren't racist.

After 3 months of my internet being cut off by IRGC, 2 days ago I finally came online and I've been crying since for my people, for them having their simplest of rights being taken away from them.
These past 3 months so many innocent people got executed for the reason of them being against this Islamic regim (IRGC), and in any case you haven't heard, more than 43,000 people got killed in only 2 days :) and rarely anybody talked about them. And since those days more people have been killed, raped and tortured for speaking up about the truth of IRGC. No, the majority of Iranians don't want this regim, we are barely surviving under this dictatorship as human beings (you can't imagine how hard it is for people in the minority groups). Also about the tragedy of Minab's school, even the cause of that was this regim for we, Iranians, are grieving their death. Death to this regim.
It is so cruel that my people get to live like this. When I came online and I saw so many updates from my favorite games and fandoms I felt like I couldn't breath, for I wanted to live a normal life, my people want the same but here we are trying out different VPNs to see which one works.
Even with our internet back, we won't stop talking about the evil actions (and evil existence) of Iran's Islamic regim.
Organizers of the DCBlackout boycott have announced the boycott’s end, citing discourse overshadowing the goal of the campaign, and acknowledging that some calls to action were limiting support of black, lgbt+, and female creatives.
While no longer calling for a boycott, they are still encouraging others to boost comics and media made by black creatives and about black characters to bring awareness to the lack of representation and to let publishers know that these stories are sought out and wanted.
from @jpenumbra on tiktok
here is a link to the campaign’s petition: change.org/dcsowhitecampaign
image text under cut:
“First and foremost, we want to thank everyone who has supported the DCSoWhite campaign. Since the beginning of this year, thousands of comic readers, retailers, creators, and fans have joined us in advocating for greater investment in Black characters and opportunities for Black creators within the comic book industry.
Today, we are announcing the end of the DCBlackout boycott.
This decision comes after a lot of reflection and conversations with members of the comic book community. While the boycott was launched to draw attention to an issue we believe remains important, it became clear that the conversation surrounding the boycott was often overshadowing the larger goal of the campaign.
The fact remains that it has been more than 1200 days since a Black character has headlined a solo title in DC Comics' mainline continuity. We continue to believe this is an issue worth discussing and addressing. However, we also recognize that many fans and creators we care about felt the boycott unintentionally minimized books, characters, and creators whose work provides meaningful representation for women, LGBTQIA+ readers, people of color, and other marginalized communities. That was never our intention, and we apologize for that impact. We heard those concerns, and they played a major role in our decision to reevaluate the boycott.
Our goal has never been to take representation away from anyone else in oursuit
of our own. We believe that Black characters deserve greater support, and inat the creators and books currently providing representation across the industry deserve to be celebrated and supported
As a result, DCSoWhite will continue as an awareness and advocacy campaign rather than a boycott effort.
One of the most effective ways readers can support creators and influence publisher decision-making is through preorders before a book's Final Order Cutoff (FOC) date. Pre-orders are one of the clearest indicators of reader interest and help publishers and retailers determine future investments in characters, titles, and creative teams. We encourage fans to support the books and creators they want to see succeed, particularly those from underrepresented communities. If you are unsure of a title's FOC date, contact your local comic shop or consult publicly available retailer resources.
DCBlackout grew into something much larger than we originally anticipated
While we appreciate the conversations it sparked, we recognize that the focus often shifted away from the concerns that inspired the campaign in the first place. Moving forward, we want the conversation to center on solutions, support, and meaningful opportunities for Black characters and creators.
The DCSoWhite campaign is not ending. The petition remains active. We will continue to highlight Black creators, promote Black independent comics, document industry trends, and advocate for greater investment in Black characters across mainstream comics.
We don't know what the future holds for DC in the coming weeks, months, or years. What we do know is that Black characters deserve the same opportunities, promotion, and great stories as everyone else. That's what this campaign has always been about, and that's what we will continue fighting for. And when DC finally announces a Black ongoing in the mainline continuity, we will be there for phase 3 of this campaign like we originally intended.”
just spoke on the phone with my grandma :)) we haven't been able to talk to her for months because of the internet shut-down in iran so this was really, really good. she's okay, albeit noticeably thinner and more tired looking, but what really matters is that she's alive. as always, free iran 🙏🏻🙏🏻
As a queer gnc Aboriginal person, this week is for me and my people. Everyone has to give money to their nearest LGBTQIA+ Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person this week. I don't make the rules, I just raise awareness of them 🤷
