When a company goes over three years disrespecting its Black characters like this (in a way its’ competitors don’t btw, even Marvel has multiple mainline Black ongoings rn) it becomes really obvious that they’re committing an intentional act of anti-Blackness. Black comic book characters matter and DC already has so many cool ones that they’re squandering and they deserve better. But even more than that, Black comic book *fans* matter. And we deserve better than this.

i’m especially pissed off because we do not need positivity posts for feminine reinterpretations of once-masc women. dc has been erasing any trade of masculinity in their female characters for years. first the heroes — and now even the villains aren’t safe.

there is currently not a single butch woman in dc. the only woman who even has short hair is fucking catwoman.

so if i ever see another “it’s okay to be girly, this character should be allowed to be girly” post in this climate im going to lose it. we’re in an era of “makeup is empowering” and “every woman should perform constant emotional labor and use therapy speak” and that is the ONLY acceptable version of femininity dc (and society at large!!!) will accept. they don’t even allow women to be tall anymore! they shrunk STARFIRE, of all characters, to 5’9” because being 6’4” tall was too “masculine”. and god fucking forbid she be taller than any man she’s near. so women who have even a TRACE of a “masculine”characteristic are being killed with their skins being stripped and refitted to be worn by some long flowy haired skirt and makeup wearing hyperfeminine woman with a softer gentler personality who doesn’t make waves and doesn’t ever make herself a problem for a man unless she’s been kidnapped or killed. to the extent that the bar for “actually feminine” has been raised to ridiculous lengths. so now everyone is starting to accept makeup and dresses and skirts and exclusively tight-fitting prettily-styled clothes and being petite+skinny+curvy again and only having a personality of constant gentleness and empathy and therapy speak — and that’s the new neutral for women, and anything somehow more feminine than that is the real version of feminine and anything even a whiff less hyperfeminine than that is “masculine” even if it’s just wearing fucking non-skimpy clothes or asserting yourself for 2 seconds.
