JOHN STEWART READING GUIDE
I’m in a John mood today so heres a reading guide for anyone interested in reading for him. He has some of the best green lantern comics point blank and his post crisis history is genuinely some of my favourite comics ever,
- Green Lantern (1960) #87 is his introduction. This was during the period that Green Lantern and Green Arrow were working together fulltime and it was a crossover title.
- Justice League of America (1960) #110
- More GL ‘60 issues: #165, #181-183, #185, #187-189, #193-198. John becomes the Earth’s sole Green Lantern Liaison for a while!
- The Green Lantern Corps: #211-212, #224. After COIE, the series at #199 becomes the GLC and focuses on the corps as a whole.
- Action Comics #601-606. [ warning for a fridging.] GLC ended and listless, Hal becomes an Action Comics feature during the short time it was an anthology series. This continues on his story. And unfortunately Katma is sacrificed for John & Hal’s pain.
- Cosmic Odyssey. The destruction of Xanshi. It will haunt John for a very, very long time.
- Green Lantern (1990) #1-9, #13-17, #19, #23-24. [Pirate this comic. It is written by a predator.]
- Green Lantern: Mosiac. One of the best comics I’ve ever read and by far John’s best book. An excellent character study with impeccable storytelling, please read it! Will make you fall in love with John even on its own. However while it is John’s finest moment and I adore it, it’s written also by Gerard Jones, the aforementioned predator from above who is a despicable creature and it should also be pirated.
- Darkstars (1992) #21-24, #0 for Zero Hour a huge incredibly plot relevant crossover for John, #25, #33, #35-38. The mosaic worlds are off handily dismantled and it still drives me insane.
- Green Lantern (1990) #70, #73-75, #78. This is post zero hour and can’t be read on its own tbf, this guide is for John purposes!
- Parallax: Emerald Night (So fucking gooooood)
- Green Lantern (1990) #81-85, 91, 111-112, 129-134, 141-148, 155-156, 160, 167, 170, 178-179. This is the Kyle era of Green Lantern comics and John becomes a routine member of his supporting cast. I’m a huge fan of their friendship which works better than Hal’s to be 100% honest. (don’t kill me!)
- Green Lantern: Rebirth. The Geoff Johns entry in Green Lantern comics. The Guardians are alive and old again, GLC is up and running, Hal is back and Parallax is retconned to just be space bug and noooo Hal never did any of that out of his own volition hahaha why would you even say that. He’s totally innocent. He was normal, the whole time jaja his hair wasn’t even really greying! Why would you even say that jajajaj
and John is officially a Marine Corps veteran due to DCAU syndrome at this point. great.
- Green Lantern (2005) #1, #21-25, 26-27, 36. Sinestro Corps war yay, just read the event
- The Flash (1987) #233, #235-236
- Blackest Night #1, GL 2005 #40-42, 44-49 Blackest Night #6-8
- War of the Green Lanterns & Green Lantern Corps #61. Guess what happens!
Green Lantern as Geoff Johns baby was one of the only runs left basically intact after Flashpoint as a result John was basically left the same even though at this point his characterisation is shifty at best. I do enjoy his N52 arc tho, Y’rra and his romance is very interesting and his time in GLC was enjoyable!
- Green Lantern Corps (2011) #1-12
- Rise of the Third Army + Wrath of the First Lantern (they had a constant stream of major events happening in N52 GL)
- Green Lantern: Lights Out
- Green Lantern: Lost Army #1-6 + Green Lantern: Edge of Oblivion #1-6 (like a LOT)
- Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps: Rebirth & GLC Vol. 3
- Green Lantern: War Journal! John focused solo story!
