ALL OF THIS. I used to work for an immigration firm, and getting it done after age 18 can be hella difficult. But also, NO ONE tells adoptive families this, and it sucks. Spread the word!

And to ANY KID WHOSE PARENT WAS NATURALIZED AND IS NOW OVER 18: For the love of God, make sure you have a document that proves your own citizenship. My dad never got my proof of citizenship when he got his naturalization paper, he only got me a passport, and my passport has been expired for 6 years and I’m a legal adult now. I know that I’m a citizen, but I have no way to prove it. PLEASE, make sure you have your proper documents before you get into a mess like mine. I have to speak with a lawyer now because none of the criteria for any of the applications on USCIS seem to fit my situation.
